Brent Steward Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

When I first met Dr. Steward, he was very nice and down-to-earth. He answered my questions at the consult and his staff spent many hours on the phone with me both before and since the surgery. Since I first met him, I am even more impressed with his sense of humor, caring demeanor, and his professionalism. He can joke around with you, but tells you like it is, what to expect, risks and benefits of surgery, etc. He really knows what he is doing and is serious when it comes to the surgery. He has a gentle, modest nature and does his best to put you at ease. He is humble about his gift, talent and knowledge. Dr. Steward and his AWESOME staff will "go to the line" for you and do their utmost to take care of your concerns and needs. They spend a lot of time on the phone with you regarding after-care, and are VERY accessible and patient. I have spent hours on the phone discussing the after-care program.
Dr. Steward and the other surgeons and staff at the Tallgrass group volunteer many hours of their weekend time to provide monthly WLS seminars and present support group meetings. They all really look after their clients, and anyone who is considering WLS. They make you feel like a member of the family, and take care of more than just the medical aspects of your care.
Overall, my wife and I rate Dr. Steward and the Tallgrass Staff 5+ stars-OUTSTANDING! We cannot think of anything negative to say. Our experience has been 100% positive.

Dr. Steward was great. Very friendly, easy to talk to and has an excellent bedside manner. His office staff was always friendly and helpful. Dr. Steward is very informative and is ready for any questions you have. I had never heard anything bad about him and felt very confident with his capabilities...In short Dr.Steward is AWESOME!

My first impression on Dr. Steward was that he knew his stuff and he was streight forward about the WLS.The way I met him is the way he continued after the surgery not one change, his staff was great people to visit they answered all my questions that I had for them ready is how they came. There is nothing bad I can say about him he is true to his word and I will always remember how great of a doctor he is,for all his future patients you all must know that he his a great person to have met and he will always be there for you no matter what,he stess aftercare because that is a major step to recovery and it will help you on your journey,he have a great aftercare program and it will be much needed to help you alone the way, he was streight about the risk of this surgery there was no sugar coating anything and he advised me to do my home work and follow through to the letter,if I had to rate Dr. Steward I'd give him 300% you can't get no better then that his overall bedside manner and surgical competence ia outstanding I couldn't have asked for nothing more.

Dr. Steward made me feel very comfortable. I was very confident in his knowledge of the lap band. Unfortuntaley he wasn't the one who put my band on, but he did remove it once mine eroded. I always felt like I was in good hands. His office staff and nurses were also wonderful. I am hoping to one day very soon to have the BIB procedure done by him. His office took very good care of me, and I could tell he was genuinely sad for me that I had to have my band removed after only having it for one year. God Bless Dr. Steward

After considering having the surgery for more than a year and finally deciding to do it, I was more than anxious to meet with my surgeon. I had heard wonderful things about Dr. Steward and was even more impressed after our first meeting. I was pleased that he listened to and answered every last one of my list of questions without rushing through them. What impressed me the most was the confidence he has in what he does and how comfortable he made me feel with my decision. On top of all that he has a great sense of humor! The only negative thing I have to say about my whole experience with Dr. Steward's office staff was that a couple of times when I had to call in with a post-op problem it felt like they didn't seem to think it was as urgent as I did and I had to wait hours for a return call. BUT, my messages did get through and I did get taken care of. Over all, my experience with Dr. Steward and his office staff was very positive and I think this group is just wonderful.

I have a date to meet him on August 5, 2003. We attended a support group that turned out to be mostl post ops but I was very encouraged, even though it isn't an easy surgery or lifestyle...I can see it as being so worth it. His office has been very nice in helping us know what we need to get together. My husband and I are going to the Sat support Meeting on July 12th so my hubby can learn more. I have spent way over a year researching but I guess we can't know too much. My psych eval is scheduled for July 8th and I have ordered the book I hear he requires us to read. My goal is to have as many of my ducks in a row as possible. I am worried about CIGNA HMO..we don't get the same story twice but I am going to follow every bit of advice to get this through the first time. My PCP is very supportive. Will keep you all informed.
It did seem all of the patients at the meeting were extremely fond of this Dr and the office...
I had surgery on December 4th and Dr Steward was and has been so kind through the process. I have had 3 strictures which he fixed for me and continued to be kind through all that. His office is great at communicating and seems very organized. Also very kind and available for questions we may have. I think this makes the aftercare excellent as well and we do have check ups every 3 months for the first year, then yearly. I have been on the monthly plan here myself though.
I can't think of anything I didn't like about him...other than he is 90 miles away but can't hold that against him.
I would give him the highest rating there is...can't imagine anything being better. He has both a great personality and is a competent surgeon.
11 Month out (November)
I was just trying to up date my profile. I have had a fe wmore strctures an my all bladde ot with Dr. Steward. I stared this out worried about how many times I would have to drive to Topeka--now I wouldn' change thing or go anywhere else. He has been extremely kind and concerned through all
the weird things my body has done this year. None of them serious though. My opinion and thankfulness to have him as my doc has just grown over the year.

I first met Doc Steward a year and a half ago and liked him from the start. He is very caring towards his patients and understands what they go through. He is very down to earth in talking to us and takes the time to answer any question you have in a caring manner. He has stuck with me and encouraged me through out my long ordeal of waiting for my disability to go through and then medicare to kick in. He fought for me to be approved by medicare for lap band. He has a great staff working for/with him along with the other doctors. I know he will do all in his ability to do what is right for me before/during/after the surgery. He rates the highest honors with me.
