I haven't met him yet. I am scheduled for my pre-op appt 2 days before sugery.

My only contact with the staff has been over the telephone. Every staff member I have spoken with has gone out of their way to be the most helpful office staff I have ever dealt with. I look forward to meeting them.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Champion and his staff. He is extremely professional and does his best to insure his potential patients are completely informed about WLS. His staff is bar none. They are compassionate and considerate. He appears to me to be very straight forward and not the "warm fuzzy" type. However he is an incredible surgeon with unbelievable skill and personally that was more important to me. I would encourage people in my area to definately look into Dr. Champion as an alternative for WLS. His office offers a variety of aftercare programs and there is always help at your disposal.

From the beginning, Dr Champion was very wise, straight forward, professional, and focused. He isn't the friendliest Doctor that I have ever met, but that wasn't the most important thing to me. I wanted someone to take care of me and give me the best medical care possible; which he did. I really feel safe under his care. I trust him.

From the beginning,he has always responded to any questions, no matter how small; and usually within minutes, after I call the office..It really amazes me how he will follow-up on things; having as many patients as he has. I believe with all my heart that he has my best interest as a priority.

His Staff is so helpful and will almost always, respond to every call within minutes. Initally when I applied for surgery, they assisted me in so many ways; offering to take of insurance paperwork and assist me in getting appointments for referrals.I didn't have to worry about the tough "medical terms" that I didn't understand.

I would recommend Dr JK Champion to anyone. He is Excellect; Or I wouldn't have placed my life in his hands.

Prior to the day before surgery I had not met Dr Champion. I had heard nothing but wonderful comments about his skills. I am very happy I went with him. He was very straight forward at my pre-op the day before surgery. He tells you what he expects from you and he will accept nothing less. He is very complete with the tests he does prior to surgery. My intial impression was a man that knew very much about what he does. Very well dressed and straight to the point. His office staff is out of this world. They went to the end of the moon for me before surgery, they were awesome at pre-op, and when I called back for my 3 week follow up. They are an awesome group of people. Dr Champion in no offense to him would probably be labled as a hard Dr, but that isn't a bad thing. I misunderstood about not eating after noon the day before surgery I thought it was after 6 pm and he thought i purposely defied him and told my mother he was worried I couldn't follow instructions. That is the only problem I had with him and I can understand him not beleiving me because he doesn't know me, so it didn't really offend me. However, for the record I really did misunderstand him. The only thing I would tell you if you were going to him for surgery follow his instructions to the T, it isn't that he is mean, it is that he knows what he is talking about. He very much for aftercare. Since I am a younger person he was wanting me to stay with therapy for aftercare for a while. He recommends group support and has a lot of support groups in Georgia. I am joining one down here at a local hospital. He has a notebook that explains to you exactly how things are done, what you should eat and drink, exercise, the whole nine yards. He went over the risks and benefits with me. And since I am a female who hasn't had children I was concerned with that. He said I would be better off having the surgery and waiting 2 years to conceive then to conceive being overweight. He said I had a much better chance of having a good pregnancy and a healthy baby. I wuld give him a plus 10 because he is awesome at what he does. I would never have chosen another dr. I would say I would like a dr to have both surgical competence and good bedside manner but if I had to pick I would rather have a dr that knows what he is doing then to be nice.

Dr. C is quite possibly the finest WLS in the nation--highly skilled, methodical, well organized, compassionate. No better results can be found!!

He seemed to be very dedicated to his work and very interested in helping his obese patients.

No

They always seemed to be very helpful and willing to answer questions.
Since his practice has grown, it seems a little less personable.

There is alot of emphasis on aftercare.

When I had my surgery, there wasn't very much structure to the aftercare but that has improved.

Very capable surgeon. Very good with laproscopy. I would recommend him to others. I have worked in the OR and have seen the techniques of other surgeons and Dr Champion does really well with this surgery.

Although his bedside manner is good, I would have to say that surgical competence would have to be better only because of his patient volume.

My first impression of Dr.Champion was that he is very reserved but still told me everything that I needed to know about what was about to tke place, and he answered any questions I had with a complete description not a short answer. In the Hospital he checked on me twice and both times was very nice. The office staff is very nice and patient with you and your questions. He emphassizes you following the diet/instructions for your recovery alot but of course for your own good. I can not imagine having anyone else to do my surgery. I was really scared but I'm 5 days post op and i know that i have made the right decision on having the surgery and who my doctor was going to be.

Dr. Champion was not overly talkative on my first visit but I liked his professional manner. He gives the impression of having all the time you need to talk and he is willing to answer all questions thoroughly. I know he is a busy man, but I truly think he cares deeply for his patients.

His staff has always been attentive, friendly and professional. Unlike many doctor's offices I was not kept waiting for long periods of time.

He expects compliance to the diet. I understand he can come down very hard on patients that don't take advantage of the tool he gives them.

He has a great follow up program. He has
his own support groups around the state, exercise groups, and a nutritionist to support his patients. A wls savvy nutritionist is very important after this surgery.

He was very thorough and detailed in describing the surgery and possible complications.

He is a fabulous doctor. I feel very fortunate in choosing him as my surgeon.

He has both surgical competence and bedside manner. He doesn't do the surgery and forget the patient. He and his staff continue to support patients.

My experience pre-op and post-op with Dr. Champion and his staff have been great. They have been there for me when I have needed them.
