I meet with Dr Champion in Sep 03. He was very upfront with me. I liked that. Needed to hear what he had to say to me. Due to that I have sinced lost 30+ lbs. Told me to get off whites (bread, pasta, potatoes and rice). He was right, the weight will come off then. Explained the surgery and how it would help him and me to get the size of my liver down.
Office staff was great. All very friendly and helpful.

Today I saw Dr. Champion for the first time and liked him very much. He was freindly, went over my medical history, and said I was a great candidate for the surgery. I was a little concerned about what his bed-side manner would be but he was great. He has after-care programs but I am trying to find one in Columbus as far as a support group goes. I don't want to drive to Atlanta. The film I watched before seeing him addressed the risks but he didn't during our session, that I can remember. Overall I thought he was super. Ofn course surgical competence is the most important to me. If I didn't make it through the surgery I wouldn't have to worry about his bedside manner! Both were great at this point.

He is one the most talented surgeons in the nation! He is very blunt, to the point, but man he's got the skills! I have had no problems and I feel that it's beacuse I chose such a fine surgeon. Aftercare is average, two support meetings a month, along with periodic phone calls, mail outs, etc. His surgical competence far outweighs his bedside manner, butI wanted someone who knew what they were doing, not just hold my hand and hope for the best. I would highly reccommend him to anyone considering RNY.

My experience with Dr. Champion was actually quite good. He comes across as a no nonsense kind of guy (which you would expect from a doctor), but I didn't mind. His bedside manner was pretty much his coming in talking to me a little and stating what he wanted to do. Short and to the point. But, I'm okay with that because I consider him to be a fabulous surgeon. He only does his surgeries laparoscopically, and I loved that!
His office staff is very friendly, and his nurse is always ready to assist when you need her. I've already called her twice and I'm two weeks out from my surgery. He has a website www.drchampion.com which will give you loads of info on he and his office.
Dr. Champion firmly believes in an aftercare program. He has his patients see him in 3 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and annually thereafter the surgery. He encourages support groups and exercise for his patients as well. They also have an organized support group in Marietta. However, I am 3 1/2 hours from there, so I attend a group here where I live.

Aggh, Dr. Champion was exactly just as he was described to me. It was darn near eerrie. I mean, he was a man of few words but I am confident that he could have performed my surgery with his eyes closed. My respect and admiration for Dr. Champion has grown over time. Dr. Champion's office staff is the greatest. For the first time in my life, I was seen in the doctor's office in a timely fashion, also the nurses and staff made me feel like I was the only person being seen by them that whole day. They really took time and made me feel comfortable. I saw no ill points with Dr. Champion. Dr. Champion's future patients should know that he is the man...I can't say enough about how glad I am that I chose him as my surgeon. Dr. Champion does have a structured aftercare system. You get information and menus at your disposal, plus the Atlanta Bariatric center keeps up with your progress too. Dr. Champion address all risks of surgery. I would rate Dr. Champion stupendous!!!! Both surgical competence and bedside manner was great...

First impression - very upfront, tells it like it is, professional. Maybe even a little stiff at first (or was that me?) but when I glanced in his private office and saw a giant dog bed I knew he had to be my kind a guy.
His office staff is incredible - everything appears to run like clockwork. Not only do you see his nurses at his office, then again at a mini meeting the day after surgery with your group, and support meetings too, but some of them are the same ones that go into surgery with you. Plus you have a one week post-op check in call with Sue to verify that everything is going well. VERY IMPRESSIVE
Future patients should know to turn off your cell phones when you are at his office and give him the utmost attention - he has some very important things to say to you.
Has great support groups and many to choose from.
As far as surgical competence goes - In my opinion there couldn't have been any better in the south east. I could have gone anywhere but he was the Dr. I felt I could trust with my life.
This survey says that a 100% positive review could be suspect - sorry - that's the truth and the whole truth. Until I see it differently :)

MY FIRST IMPESSION OF DR. CHAMPION WAS THAT HE WAS A VERY KNOWLEDGABLE SURGEON,I NEVER FELT RUSHED WHEN I WENT IN FOR ME PRE-OP. MY EXPERIENCE WITH HIS OFFICE STAFF WAS GREAT, THEY WERE ALWAYS HELPFUL. I REALLY LIKED SHERRY. SHE KEPT ME UP TO DATE WITH THE STATUS FROM MY INSURACE COMPANY. BUT THEY ARE EXTREMELY BUSY AND YOU CAN'T ALWAYS SPEAK WITH THEM. DR.CHAMPION'S AFTERCARE PLAN IS GREAT,I HAVE DONE REALLY WELL WITH NO COMPLICATIONS. I RATE DR CHAMPION A SUPER
"10". HIS SURGIGAL COMPETENCE,AND BEDSIDE MANNER WAS WONDERFUL.

I first saw Dr. C at his support group meeting in February. He was very impressive with his presentation on WLS. I had researched many doctors in my area and tried to contact each, but his office was the one that I like the best and was "available" when I needed them to be. I decided after seeing his presentation that he cared for his patients, didn't mess around, was straight forward and brutally honest. I needed that kick in the butt to get me where I am now. I sent my application to him in late February and started the ball rolling.

I liked Dr. Champion. He does have a staff to handle most things. I know he's in this ultimately to make a living so he wants to maximize the number of people he sees. I was suprised he didn't actually "examine" me. I didn't feel rushed and he went over things very throughoughly but I don't feel like he ever took the time to get to know me. I know that's irrelevant to his skill as a surgeon -- which was excellent.
I felt like the whole "pre-op" experience was just about making my payment (not just to him, but to the hosptial and to the anthesia group as well). The office nurse did spend about an hour going over post-op diet and aftercare and I was presented with everything I would need after surgery-- vitamins-tums- even gas-x at that appointment. As well as a three-ring binder that detailed EXACTLY what I should eat the next six weeks.
Overall I do rate him as an excellent doctor. I just didn't really bond with him. Once again that has nothing to do with how I feel now or his ability as a surgeon.
