My first impression of Dr. Leverton was that she is a very kind and caring person. She took time to answer all questions that my mother and myself had. If you go into your consultation expecting to spend an hour or so you will be surprised. My initial consultation was on 4/2/02 and took about 3 hours. My surgery is now scheduled for 8/6/02. Dr. Leverton stressed after care very much. She took the time to tell me what to expect after the surgery. She did not sugar coat it, she just told me how it was. She did not talk to me like a child or like a person she felt sorry for. The entire staff at BTC was wonderful. I felt very comfortable there. I can't say that about other doctor's offices. I would recommend Dr. Leverton and the BTC to anyone thinking of having surgery.

I went in for my consultation with Dr. Leverton on May 3rd, 2002. My first impression with her was that she had a great sense of humor. She was very knowledgeable in the field of WLS and took her time in explaining everything and answered all questions without making us feel like we were an imposition to her. She made sure we understood how the surgery would work and what to expect.
The office staff was very friendly and professional.
The only thing I would want future patient. to know is not to go in with an expectation of only being there an hour or so. We were there 3 hours and almost all of that time was spent answering questions, talking to the doctor and then getting to visit with someone who had the surgery recently. On the upside, they make sure that you walk out of the office confident of what you are embarking on and that there are no unanswered questions.
Aftercare was stressed with utmost improtance. It was stressed all throughout our consultation.
Risks of surgery was explained and there again, we were allowed to ask as many questions as we had without them making us feel like we were imposing or stupid.
Our, my wife's and my opinion on Dr. Leverton is that she is very professional and knowledgeable about the proceedure and that she is so patient and softspoken. We are very excitied about having surgery and our now just watitng insurance approval.
Just a note * my wife and I are both having WLS with Dr. Leverton.

My first impression of Dr.Leverton was that she looks to be so young and thinking how many surgeries can she really have done? I have come to find my doctor to be a very kind, and understanding doctor. Answering all of my questions I asked. In depth and detail. Not in a rush, as most doctors seem to be. The office at BTC was very nice. The hospital staff was exceptional. The best that I have ever had in a hospital setting. There for the patient. Very caring. Dr.Leverton emphasizes aftercare alot. You need to follow the program to the letter. Especially the drinking so, that you do not become dehydrated. Dr.Leverton addressed the risk of the surgery, and complications that may or may not occur. I can not rate Dr.Leverton because she is off the charts. She has great followup skills as well. Not only does she do good follow-up in the hospital, but once you leave she continues by giving you a call at home to make sure everything is alright. That's a bonus. Dr.Leverton is very knowledgeable. You can ask her anything. She is the one I would recommend!!!!! I do not have any negative things to say. I will say that I know this was the best decision for me to make personally.

What was your first impression of him/her? My first impression of Dr Leverton was that she is very kind and knowledgeable. She was able to answer all my questions without hesitation and even some of the the more direct and blunt questions I had.

How did your impression change over time? It has not changed over time. I have complete confidence and trust in her.

How would you describe his/her office staff?
Everyone I have had contact with at BTC in Wylie has been wonderful. They are kind and helpful at all times.

What did you like least about him/her? This is really hard to answer because I was very impressed by her. If anything negative I would say at my initial consult meeting when she began to describe the surgical procedure, it seemed like a prepared recitation complete with visual aids. But that was quickly over and we talked specifically about how the surgery related to me and my current weight and health.

What should future patients know about him/her?

How much does he/she emphasize aftercare?
She strongly emphasizes aftercare. She makes it clear that the surgery is only one small step in the journey of weightloss

Does he/she have a structured aftercare program? Yes

How did he/she address the risks of surgery?
She directly addressed the risks of surgery. She presented national statistics and statistics specific to BTC. She also addressed risks to me specifically.

How would you rate him/her overall? Excellent

Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or both great? I think the complete answer to this question varies with the individual. Of course surgical competence is of the utmost importance. However, in my opinion, if I can not talk to the surgeon and feel comfortable then he/she is not the doctor for me.

All of the above comments are based on my experience and opinions. Just as in all of life, everyone's experience may differ.

I really liked meeting with Dr. Leverton. I was somewhat surprised by her age, she seems quit young. Please read above for my concearn regarding a comment she made on lap vs. open. But, other than "the" comment I really thought that she was great. She did a very good job of explaining the procedure, the recovery and the risks.

Dr. Julie Leverton is everything you would want in a Surgeon, she is through, competent and took her time explaining the Bariatric Surgery to me.
Dr. Julie Leverton let me know that this surgery is not a Cure all but is a tool and the better I understand it the better I will learn to work with it and help it to make me lose and keep off my weight.
My first appointment with Dr. Leverton was on Dec. 4, 2001 and it took me 4 long months to get approved for Surgery, I am pleased to announce that my Surgery will be done on May 6, 2002.

When i first saw Dr. Leverton I did not know she was the surgeon. I past her in the hallway. When she came in I was surprised. She is a very kind lady. She took time with me and at no time did I feel that she was trying to rush me in anyway. She explained the procedure carefully and extensivly. The pictures that she drew of the procedured cleared up questions that I had. I felt comfortable with her and that was important to me. She did not leave until all questions were answered.
The staff was helpful and kind. From the moment I walked in I was greeted with a smile and was put at ease. The nurse was kind and I did not feel intimidated by the scales for the first time in a while. I guess I knew that this was a begining for me.
I believe that having a post operative patient come in a talk with me was really a good idea. I asked her questions that I knew only she would know the answer to.
My overall experience was great.
I am greedy I want a competent doctor with a great bedside manner.
