Dr. Gorospe is a very kind and compassionate man. I was very impressed the first time I met him. I would pick him again in a minute. If you are looking for a qualified, kind, caring doctor, then Dr. Gorospe is the one you should choose.
The office staff is a little overworked but it's all worth it to have such an awesome doctor.

My first meeting with Dr G was at his support group meeting in May 2001 and although I knew he would be there - it was still hard to imagine a doctor spending time every month with a room full of pre and post ops talking to them and answering questions - some of them repeatedly. I was very impressed with his knowledge, his compassion and sincerity and his ability to explain the surgery and life afterwards in lay terms.
I met for my consultation with Dr. G in August 2001. First they had all of us there meet in a large group with his patient liasion Michelle Leaming - which was excellent because she could give us a personal view and experience of the surgery (and show us her scar). She was able to answer some of the more day to day questions about life after surgery, etc. then Dr G came in and discussed the procedure options and more technical questions. Then we had time to meet with him one on one for personal situations and to gain his approval. Very good staff. I felt so comfortable with all of them.
Since then, I have had a little bit of difficulty with them, my surgery date has been changed 3 times (hopefully now it is final) and I just felt like I kinda got the run-around. I know they are busy, and several people have commented about how overloaded the office staff is - but if thats the case they need to do something different then. OK, enough of my soapbox. I still feel they are wonderful, just too busy !!!
I did my pre-op testing and had my weighlite class on 11/5. VERY helpful and neat to meet others who will be in the hospital with you at least some of the time. Becky is an awesome nurse and very open to questions, etc. I learned alot at our weighlite class.
POST OP: well, had I written this the day I got out of the hospital it would be alot worse, but I have calmed down some since then. I was not visited by Dr G at all in the hospital and was very dissappointed. I saw some doc I had never met and was just really upset with that. I never had any visitors from his support group and couldnt get a clear answer about WHO messed up my NG tube (for more info, contact me). Anyhoo, I am much happier now that I am feeling better, but I was raring mad when I left the hospital.
I still feel like his office is WAY overworked and they need some major organizational help. Unfortunately I hear SO many people claiming not to rely on Dr G or his staff for after care. I have to agree with them now.

He is so nice.and very professional
did not change, love the man and his work
his staff is great and so nice
nothing
you can trust these people they are good
very much and they take every precaution
yes in writting

Id do it again anyday with this Doctor, he is a friend to all
surgical competence is no problem, and i consider Dr. Gorospe to be #1 in anything he does for you!

I haven't decided for sure, yet. If Dr Gibbs can do it laparoscopic, I will go with him. If it has to be done open, I will go with Dr Janes in Ft Smith, AR. I met Dr Janes in 1999. My insurance wouldn't pay for it. But, Dr Janes has done many of these and is very confident. He tells you how it's gonna be and doesn't sugar coat it. I like him. His office staff isn't the easiest to work with. But, I think I can get by them.

My first time to see Dr. Gorospe was at the Carnie Wilson event held in Tulsa the day they dedicated the 3rd floor of SouthCrest Hospital for WLS patients. It was the first time I had ever seen a crowd of people give a standing ovation for a doctor- amazing. He has such a big heart to know the struggles that all of us have faced in trying to lose weight and keep it off. His compassion and passion for his work is likewise seen throughout his staff. I think nearly everyone in his office has been a patient and I think that speaks volumes about their dedication and all the hard work they put in for all the patients. They have "been there and done that." The other thing about SouthCrest is many of the nurses and other support staff on the 3rd floor have also undergone WLS. I will let you know as soon as I find something about Dr. Gorospe that would fall under the "least like about him" category. Maybe, that he is like the Energizer Bunny, he keeps going and going and going. Post-op I hope to have that amount of energy!! It was made very clear that the worst case in having ANY surgery was the possibility of death down to a totally uneventful surgery and quick recovery. Although, I am pre-op at this time, I think the only weakness in the aftercare program would be in the nutrition and diet guidelines. We have several health food stores and vitamin/supplement outlets in Tulsa and I think it would be most helpful if the doctors could give a little more guidance in this area. Perhaps let these stores know that they will be getting many requests for post bariatric surgery foods and supplements and prepare them for these unique customers. My overall rating at this time would have to be excellent. I will update these comments after Feb. 18th

I met Dr. Gorospe at an initial consultation. Dr. Gorospe seems very nice. I was pleasantly surprised at how at ease I felt with them. They are very knowledgable. My husband had some serious reservations about my having the surgery, but they were able to answer all of his questions and put his mind at ease. It is also helpful that their nurses have had the surgery and have at one time been in the same position that we are all in so they seem to be a little more understanding and not at all snotty.

Verry professional. I have only met him once at my consultation.
Office staff- some were very friendly but over all there is room for improvment.
His nurse Michelle was great. She has had the surgery and speakes from personal knowledge. She made me feel like she would be there for me if I needed her.
I dont feel that I have got to know him well enough yet to say what I dont like about him. He appears to be very professional and honest about the surgery and his practice. Speaking from my experience as a nurse, I felt that he was very open about what he expected from me as a pt. before and after surgery. In the first metting with him he has gained my trust this far. Yes he really went over the risks of surgery!!
To me I would perffer both surgical comp. and great bedside manner, but over all I want SURGICAL COMPETENCE!!
