My first impression of Dr. G was that he seems to be a very caring, compassionate man. He is very sensitive to morbidly obese people, which is a little funny because he is tiny!! lol My impression of him has not changed at all. His office staff is great. They are extremely busy but they always have time to answer questions and go out of their way to come to support groups and actively participate in the online-support group daily.
The thing I liked least....hmmmm...I guess it would be waiting in his office so long at all of my appointments. It's a small price to pay though. It is an extremely busy office, and he helps so many people daily. Dr. G really emphasizes aftercare. He is at the monthly support group meeting and does a Q & A session with pre and post-op patients. You also have many follow-up appointments with him. I, overall would rate Dr. Gorospe as excellent. I feel he is the most knowledgeable surgeon in Oklahoma performing RNY. He is extremely competent and his bedside manner is ok. He is a very busy man.

I had my consult with Dr. Gorospe on Friday, Sept. 26th, 2003. First, his surgical assistant, Lita, spoke with us (a group of potential surgery patients) while showing a slide presentation, then Dr. G. did the same. They covered everything so completely there were not a lot of questions, although plenty of time was given for Q & A. Then after weighing, Dr. G. visited with me personally. As far as I'm concerned, he is the best. He did my sister's surgery, so I feel I know some about his expertise and bed manner. He wants to do my surgery laparoscopically (yay!) and the RNY will include the silastic ring (also placed laparoscopically.) Dr. G. is, at the time of this writing, the only surgeon in Oklahoma who places the ring laparoscopically. Very nervous about the actual surgery - I'm well aware of the risks - but feel I'm in good hands.

To "balance" my positive comments, I feel I should say that from my sister's experience(and a bit from mine), his staff is extremely busy and can be a bit abrupt on the phone when answering questions - hopefully if it was a an actual emergency for a post-op patient and not just routine insurance questions, they would be more attentive. Also, Dr. G. is very busy - don't expect him to see a lot of him for holding your hand, but again, if there were serious complications, I feel he'd be there to handle them.

I first met Dr. G at South Crest Hospital where I was doing my med surg clinical (I am a RN student). I was working with one of his clients and I asked him about the gastric bypass surgery and he invited me to come to one of his meetings. My fiancé and I went to the meeting and the next thing I knew I was scheduled for my surgery. Dr. G answered every question I had and always had time for me. He came by several times to see me after surgery. I have seen some of his worst cases because I did work at a hospital that took care of MRSA and VRE clients. I heard some pretty bad stuff about Dr. G but I would still go to him again. He gave me my life back. I think that he is a very busy man but I know for sure that he puts his heart into all that he does. He really cares for people and it shows. I have had to wait a long time for my appointments with him but you know for what he did for my life those waits are nothing in comparison.

I was very nervous about going to the consultation, but once I got there I felt more at ease. There were people there just like me. Dr. Gorospe was very informative and covered all areas. I did alot of research before I went, so I didn't have any questions, other than, should I have open or laproscopic? His office staff seems very nice and respectful. He was very funny and I have read nothing but good things about him. I feel very confident about putting my life in his surgical hands, but I know God will be with me also!!

He was very friendly and passionate about what he does. His impression remains. He is caring and approachable. Not judgemental at all. His office staff are friendly and helpful. Hard to decide, have talked to him about three times and he has been friendly each time. He does sometimes rush through responses to questions, which can be frustrating if you can't hear well. They should know that he truly cares and is passionate about obesity and he wants anyone who is obese to overcome the disease and lead a healthy and full life. Aftercare is ABSOLUTELY emphasized. He stresses the the do's and don'ts continually. They do have a structed program and there is always someone there to help if you have questions. He is upfront and frank about surgery risks. He did not shy away from any questions. I rate him and his office staff with a 10. 10 of course being the best. They are great! Both. One can't be successful without the other.

Dr. JoeBob Kirk is Dr. Gorospe's associate. He participates in all the surgeries. I have to say, that Dr. Kirk is the greatest. He is so patient and understanding. He listens and cares what is happening to you. You are not just another patient file. Go Dr. KIRK!!!

I attended the group meeting on 5/14/03. I was impressed by his sense of humor and sincerity in dealing with large patients. When I met with him privately, I fell in love when he said he would remove my large, pendulous "apron" at the same time as the gastric bypass! I burst into tears. I had no idea that could be done! He recommends this procedure for my age/risk group due to the potential for incisional herniation and complications. He said I will awaken from surgery with "a little, round belly" and will have to learn how to walk without it! I will feel like Cinderella! He said I would leave the hospital 50-75# lighter than when I go in! Talk about a jump start!!! PTL! He is requiring that I have a vena cava filter installed to prevent blood clots from traveling from my legs to my lungs/heart. He is very careful and thorough, which I deeply appreciate.

I've heard nothing negative about Dr. G and I have nothing negative to say at this point. I will post again after I have more experience with him.

I first met with Dr. Gorospe in a group meeting to cover general information regarding bariatric surgery. We first met his assistant Michelle. She was able to describe to us the bariatric surgery from a patients view. She answered all the questions we had and even told us some of the horror stories of her recovery and even showed us her scar. About midway through the morning Dr. Gorospe joined us and discussed the actual procedure and risks and benefits. Dr. Gorospe seems to really know his stuff. He also was willing to answer any questions we had. After the group meeting, we went back to his office for individual meetings with him. He seems genuinly interested in helping us fat people. At this time, this is the extent of my contact with Dr. Gorospe. However, I am scheduled for surgery on April 11, 2003 and will update this accordingly.

Dr. Gorospe never once met with me once before or after my surgery while I was int he hospital. I was really disappointed with this

My first impression of him was that he was extremely knowledgeable and confident. He answered many questions and seems to have a routine to his group consultations. My first impression of him has not changed. He is an excellent surgeon!

His office staff is helpful, but OVERWORKED! I sometimes feel like I might get lost in the mass of people they deal with daily.

The only area, I feel, that could be improved would be in the aftercare information and follow-up. My first follow-up appointment was scheduled for 1:45 p.m. and I was finally called in at 3:00 p.m. The staff is known to double and triple book patients. As for the aftercare information, I was told the staff is working on developing a better packet for the Do's and Don'ts, as well as samples meals. This would help tremendously!

I would rate the surgeon a 10 out of 10 and his staff an 8 out of 10!
