The consultation went well. I was impressed that it was a group meeting with both doctors at Southcrest Hospital. When I first scheduled the consult, I thought it was going to be a one on one meeting.. Having it in a group forum allowed everyone to ask questions, some I never even thought to ask.. Both surgeons explained exactly how the surgery was going to be performed. They also spend a lot of time going over the "side effects" of this type of surgery and the type of after care that was needed. I really believe Dr. Gorospe is concerned about my care and reasons for having this type of surgery. They have a dedicated floor in Southcrest just for bariatric patients, with specialized nurses on hand for health care. All and all my review of this doctor is great. They are always at the monthly support meetings and allow people to ask questions. Which is great so you don't have to make another Dr.'s appt just to ask questions.

I will let you know after my surgery what my final opinion is for this doctor and hospital are.

Well the surgery is over and things went great! Dr. Gorospe and his staff are the best, and take the time to make sure all your questions and needs are met. To me what mattered the most is a surgeon that is highly skilled to perform this operation. And with these people you certainly have a high skill level. I did not need someone to hold my hand after surgery, I needed someone to perform this surgery and do it right. After all, you are changing the way your body works and that needs to be done by the best. Dr. Gorospe is certainly the BEST!

But like anything else, you need to research your surgeon and find the one that you are comfortable with using.

In my opinion Dr. Luis Gorospe and Dr. Joe Bob Kirk were absolutely insightful from the very first visit. They both put my fears at ease. My opinion on their care has never changed. His office staff is just as wonderful. One of the ladies on their staff has had the Gastric Bypass and can answer any question that you may have. My only complaint was that I have had to wait about an hour or so for appointments.....but due to the fact that I've lost 110 lbs in 9 months I can't really justifibly get upset about that!!.Both Dr.'s stress aftercare and explained the risks of surgery in great detail. You are required to go South Crest before surgery and learn about what to expect before and after surgery as well as how to get in and out of bed and how to eat before and after surgery. They also require you to attend at least one of their support group meetings before surgery. Both Dr.'s and their office staff attend each meeting. I enjoyed the meeting so much that I attend the meetings every month.
While waiting to be taken in for surgery Dr. Kirk came and spoke with me twice to see how I was doing. He made me feel very comfortable. I had not a single complication after surgery, just very sore. As far as surgical competence goes.......they are skilled surgeons who know their "stuff". Both came to visit me each day while I was in the hospital and have a great sense of humor. I would recommend both Doctors highly. One thing to remember when comtemplating the surgery is that the surgery in itself is not dangerous......the morbidly obese patient is the factor that makes the surgery more risky. A month and a half after surgery I went back to the hospital to have a stricture stretched(something quite common and painless to fix). Since then I haven't had any problems keeping food down. I started out at 240 lbs. on the day of surgery and now 9 months out I weigh 123 lbs. I have my life and health back thanks to Dr. Gorospe and Dr. Kirk!

Dr. Gorospe is absolutely wonderful. He is an awesome surgeon. I just love him!

My impression has not changed.

The staff at Okla Weight Loss is phenomenol.

The only downfall is it takes so long in the waiting room...because the surgeons are sooo busy!

I am not sure about aftercare yet really, since it's been only 3 weeks post surgery.

They do have a structured after care program, which includes support groups!!

The risks of surgery were outlined in detail.

I would give Dr. G a rating of 11 out of a scale of 1 to 10!!!!

Surgical Competence is great, bedside manner is ok.

My first impression of Dr. Gorospe was that he was very knowledgable about this surgery. I was impressed how thorough he was during the first consultation. I love his office staff and think that they are one of the better offices in Tulsa. I think new patients should understand how busy he is but that he does spend time with you when it gets to be surgery time and after care time. His aftercare is excellent and he sees you on regularly scheduled times throughout the first year and then yearly after that. He addressed the risks of surgery and was very up front with what can happen. I would rate him as one of the top surgeons in the country. His surgical competence is better but his assistant Dr. Kirk has wonderful bedside manner.

Dr. Gorospe is a very impressive man. He is intelligent, knowledgeable, and compassionate. His office staff is friendly, patient and helpful. A very "upbeat" group.
Dr. Gorospe stresses the importance of aftercare for successful, healthy weight loss. He has a structured aftercare program. He is very clear on the risks of surgery, addressing all major and minor aspects. From my research I would rate him as an excellent surgeon-but I will know more after December 29th.

My first impression of Dr. Gorospe was that he is the one that is going to help me change my life. He is a very caring and very well experienced doctor. His office staff is just great and also caring. I would tell future patients that they have chosen the BEST doctor for the surgery. They will pray with you and make sure that you are relaxed before surgery is started. Dr. Gorospe was very upfront about risks of the surgery. It is a very serious decision to be made.

Dr. Gorospe was wonderful. I attended the support group in July of this year with a friend also considering the surgery. I decided after talking to post-ops that I would at least try to get approved. His staff is wonderful about returning phones and getting you the informaiton you need. They were so helpful to me. I work a lot of out state and they were willing to do a lot of the paperwork and stuff by fax and mail.

I thought he was very informative and nice also funny. I still feel very confident in both him and Dr. Kirk. The office staff is very helpful, if I needed something on the weekend they called right back. I really haven't found anything yet that I don't like except for having to wait so long in his office. Dr. Gorospe and Dr. Kirk have given me more information than other Dr.s I have seen. They sit right down and tell you all about it. My aftercare program has been informative although hard to follow, I want to eat real food! They addressed the risk of sugery. I would rate them 10. Dr. Kirks bedside manner is a little better than Dr. Gorospe, Dr. Kirk takes more time. I feel like both of them are topnotch as far as surgical competence goes.
