Luis Gorospe Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

Dr. G is my surgeon, but was not at the beginning of my journey!! Attended a seminar on 11/2002 at Baylor with about 400 other people in a huge auditorium. It was very informative and nice, very committed physician, Dr. McCarty stayed late and answered many questions. Be aware that Baylor is way too big and understaffed for the volume of bariatric patients wanting to get surgery there. If you have BCBS-and choose Baylor in Dallas-be aware that you may wait for a long time. As of Feb/2003, I changed and I moved to Dr. Gorospe in Tulsa due to the changes Baylor made regarding BCBS patients and money that must be paid of of pocket for unknown reasons. Dr.Gorospe in Tulsa(where I'm from) performed my surgery with great success. He is very face to face and cares about his patients and hosts montly meetings for support and follow up care. He visited me personally on day 2 and sent me home as I requested because I was doing so well. I'd choose him again in a second.

Dr. Gorospe is very knowledgeable and really cares about his patients. He's an excellent surgeon.

My first encounter with Dr. G. was on Feb. 13, 2004. He was a very kind and gentle guy, and was VERY knowledgeable about his business. A few of my friends referred me to this doctor. I am in the approval stage of this journey with psych, nutrition evaluations. The office staff has been very helpful also, Lisa D. is working with my case, and Lita shared her WLS story with us at the first consult with the doctor. The whole staff addressed the benefits as well as the risks involved with the procedure as well as follow-up care. I would rate the experience at big 10 so far!! Lisa D. has been an angel with helping me get approved. My official date is August 16, 2004. I found out about my insurance approval, on May 5, 2004. Lisa D. from Dr. Gorospe's office gave me all the info I needed for the next step of preparing for surgery. Great experience so far.

Dr. Gorospe is a highly experienced surgeon with a wonderful record regarding gastric bypass surgeries. He is also very kind and considerate and patient and willing to answer any questions. He has an incredible program since he now specializes in bariatric surgery. His staff is very friendly and efficient and helpful. He has his own support group and requires attendance before and after surgery. I feel completely comfortable going into this because I trust his surgical abilities and expertise.

Dr Gorospe was very professional and articulate. He gave a very informative presentation to the group. His office staff was always helpful and polite. My main criticism would be that he seems hurried when you meet with him 1:1. He is very polite and professional and I do believe that he really cares, but he might try harder to connect personally. That being said I believe that he is an exceptionally talented surgeon and I would not trade any of that for more empathy. My advice would be to be prepared with questions in writing when you go in for initial or follow up appointments.

Dr.G is a very smart man. How could such a little guy be so powerful.He's awesome. His heart is as big as the world.His office staff has been wonderful. Leta is an angel.
Dr.Kirk is also a wonderful man. He's so detailed on everything he discusses with you. They are very detailed on the surgery. The dangers are just as serious as any major surgery and they will tell you that. I prayed and put my faith in GOD to guide their hands and it was wonderful.
They are two people that I will never ever forget. Thank You so much for a new out look of life.

I had Dr. Grosepe and Dr. Kirk. I liked them both very much. Everyone in their office was very nice. Everyone explained everything and If I didn't understand they told it to me in a way that I understand. Everything they said or did was very perfesional. I would recomened them to my friend and family who wanted to have wls.

I think that Dr. Gorospe is a wonderful doctor, and I think he knows exactly what he is doing. I wouldn't have trusted anyone else that I researched to do my surgery. It can be a very difficult procedure and many things can go wrong...so I was comforted to have a doctor with so much experience. He seems to truly care about his patients. The only semi-negative thing I would say is that he is obviously handling a huge volume of people and he seems to be overworked. That is okay though, because his assistant Dr. Kirk, picks up the slack. I was completely impressed with Dr. Kirk. He came to visit me at the hospital on his weekend off, simply because he heard I was back in the hospital. I really felt like I was in good hands with this team.

Overall, I would say you can't go wrong with choosing this team for your surgery. I would do it all over again if I had to.

I am very impressed with Dr. Grosepe. He is a very caring man. His staff are available to answer questions. He was very forthright about the possible complications and what to expect after surgery. His aftercare program is outlined very clearly and his staff is very knowledgible about the different aspects of aftercare, which includes a support group.

I would give him a excellent overall rating. The statistics presented on his surgical competence are outstanding, and what I have seen of his bedside manner is great. I haven't been through the surgical experience as of yet, but feel that I have made a good choice in my surgeon.

I do have to travel to go to this particular surgeon. I live in Joplin, MO and Tulsa, Ok is about two hours away. This makes the pre-op clearences that must be performed in Tulsa a rather lengthly process. But this also makes me feel that I have made a good choice in surgeons, in that he doesn't want any surprises when the time comes.

I think Drs Gorospe and Kirk are the best choices for this surgery. If you are in the area near tulsa or even away...these are the Doctors to do this surgery. Lots of experience and generally care about the futures of their patients. Don't settle for amatuers...get the experts!
