I havent met with Dr.Aslam yet,I meet him on March 13th. I met with Jeannie on Feb. 13th she is wonderful. She went over all the information. I left the office feeling as if Jeannie could operate on me. I feel that they both are sincere in there work and want to really help the overweight people. I have no doubts in my mind that I have chosen the right surgeon.

I first met with Jeannie, one of his nurses. She is wonderful.Very encouraging and helpful. I met with Dr. Aslam on the Tues. before I had my surgery. He is very kind and compassionate but not much on small talk!!!I would suggest to have all your questions written down.
He takes time to anwser all of my questions and I didn't feel like he was "rushing "to get out of my room. He definately made sure I had all the info and that I knew this is a life long process not a "Quick Fix" I would definately rate him an A!!

I first met Dr. Aslam on 01/23/01 for my history and physical appointment..before that I had seen him at our WLS group where he was available to answer questions that some of us who were waiting to see him might have had...he is very honest and seemed like he really wants this weight loss option to work for all who decide to go this route..I am glad he is the one I have chosen to go with.

I have met once with Dr. Aslam to discuss my surgery. He is a well-respected surgeon who has been in the Augusta area for a long time. In fact, he performed surgery on my father approximately 12 years ago, and I found him to be very thorough and competent at that time. I have complete confidence in his judgment and ability. He made me feel very comfortable and was willing to discuss any concerns I had regarding the surgery. We discussed having it done laparoscopically, and at this point this is the option we are going with. His nurse, Jeannie Colter, with whom I spent most of my time is a wonderful person. She is caring, informative, supportive, and thorough in her screening process for surgery. She made me feel more comfortable in a doctor's office than I have felt in a long time. A one-time visit with her made me feel as though I have found a new friend who will support me throughout this process.

I really can't say at this point that there was anything that I disliked about Dr. Aslam. I got the impression from this meeting and my past experience with him being my Dad's surgeon that his surgical competence may be a stronger point for him that his bedside manner. He is thorough and straight forward, and this is what I look for in a doctor/surgeon.

Other patients may prefer a doctor who is jovial at all times and who isn't right to the point about their condition or prognosis. If this is the case, I don't believe that Dr. Aslam would be the person for them. He is a caring doctor though and takes his work seriously.

The support during and after the surgery appears to be very structured and available. I don't believe that there will be a time that I will have to worry about a thing, and if I do I know that I will have someone that I will be able to contact at anytime day or night to talk with me.

As a med/surg nurse in Augusta, Maine, I had known and worked with my surgeon for several years prior to my surgery. I was his second patient for this particular procedure (Roux-N-Y. Because of my nursing knowledge and my experience as a gastric bypass patient, Dr. Aslam often had me meet with patients who were considering having this surgery. I would share my own experience and also do some teaching with them. Eventually, I was seeing and talking to so many people that Dr. Aslam felt it was time to start a support group. We did, and the first monthly meeting brought us less than a dozen people. As word spread, attendance at the support group meetings grew. Now, some 5 years later, the monthly meetings bring dozens of people. I am proud of the success of the support group, because I want so desperately to help as many people as possible to get out of the emotional hell that obesity brings.

I will always be grateful to Dr. Aslam for his dedication to his profession and for wanting to help all of us and improve our overall quality of life.

I was initally not scheduled to meet with Dr. Aslam until 6 days before my surgery. I was uncomfortable with that since I was not 100% certain about my surgery choice. I rescehduled my appointment and met with him 08/15/00. He didn't really explain the surgery options to me, because after months of research, I pretty much already knew how they worked. I did ask him some specific questions and with the answers he gave me and his reccomendation, I have decided to go with the BPD/DS. I found Dr. Aslam to be very professional and willing to answer any and all questions I asked him. He did stress that surgery will help me, but is not a "cure". He also wants me to try yo lose some weight between now and my surgery. He suggested 15 pounds, I don't know if I can do that in just a little over a month, but I will do my best. Dr. Aslam stressed the need to take multi-vitamins and B-12 after surgery, for life. As well as the importance of followup bloodwork. The office staff has been great, especially Jeannie, she is a real angel.

Dr.Aslam was very caring and respectful. He spoke softly and took his time explaining the surgery, the associated risks and my post-op responsibilities. He answered my questions fully and patiently. I did not feel hurried as I have with other physicians. He was unassuming, reassuring and gentle in his approach. His aftercare program is highly structured and I will see him many times post-op. As a patient and an RN, I was very impressed with him, his staff and his program.

Dr. Aslam's nurse, Jeannie Colter, was the first person I met in the program. She was very warn, accepting, non-judgemental and knowledgable. Jeannie can make the insurance companies stand-up, take notice and pay out!!

Dr. Aslam and his Nurse Practitioner, Nancy Tarr, saw me every day in the hospital. They were both caring and unhurried, willing to answer any question. I would rate their technical skill as superior and their emotional support as excellent.
