My first meeting with Dr.Spiers I was very nervous. I did not know anything about this dr. except he was the best in this type of surgery. After the first office visit and talking to the dr. I am very at ease and really liked him. On a scale of 1-10 I give him a 10. As for he's office staff they are very pleasent and try to answer any questions you may have.Just by their actions they are all very caring people. I am very happy with the choice of dr. I went to, to have this surgery.

Dr. Spier was wonderful from my 1st consult.
He asked me about my history and my reasons for wanting this surgery. He has a very good
sense of humor and seemed kind, caring and compassionate. I like that he only does open
RNY, and he uses a central line instead of
all those IV's thet have to be changed all the time. His office staff is fabulous, Jan
takes care of insurance and was approved after first submission. Robyn, his nurse had
this surgery and is a walking advertisement
having lost 140 pounds in 1 year! There is nothing to dislike about him(my opinion) in
my book He is a solid 10!! He has his own support group meetings two a month and he and Robyn attend everyone!!

Dr. Spier is wonderful. He is very matter of fact and has sort of a dry sense of humor. He really cares about helping obese people get their lives back. He just tells it like it is.
His office staff is very friendly yet professional. Jan does the insurance part and she is wonderful. Robyn is his nurse and she is very caring and understanding and since she had the surgery too she is easy to talk to.
Dr. Spier is very strict about after care and I really appreciate that. It makes you feel like he cares about you as a person.
Dr. Spier gets an A+ in my books. He answers any questions you have, honestly, and he expects you to do what he tells you to do. I really respect the kind of surgeon he is. I feel blessed that he will be the one watching over me on this wonderful journey.

I really was impressed with Dr Spier the first time I met with him. He was very imformative and did not hold anything back. He answered all of my questions and was straight forward. I appreciated that. His office staff was equally nice and informative. I also really appreciated that they do not make appointments a year in advance like most doctors. Appointments are made in a timely manner. So far I do not have any complaints. I am quite happy with my choice.

My first impression. Boy he is grumpy!
Very kind.
Very nice.
He knew what he was doing.
Be confident he is good at what he does.
As long as you do what you are told. You do fine. He knows if you cross your legs or not yet!!
Yes
Told you the risk and the pros and cons.
I rate him to the highest. When I went into surgery I had all the confidence in the world with him.
Right at first Surgical competence then he is very compationate. Knows what you need and doing before you do.

My first impression was that he was friendly, even tho I had heard that he didn't have a great bedside manner. I didn't care tho, because all I knew was I wanted a competent surgeon. My impression of him got better with time: I came to see him as a health care provider who was really compassionate and cared about the plight of obese folks. He is so interested in aftercare, that he does not charge for post-op visits! Even years later! He is more interested in the feedback he gets from his patients, so he can determine what is working and what is not working for his patients, and to make any changes in his procedure from the feedback he gets. He was very frank about the risks it involved, but seemed confident that I was a great candidate for this surgery. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give him a 10. Both surgical competence and bedside manner are important to me, and I appreciated his dry sense of humor.

similar to any surgery and that obesity can increase risks

I LOVE DR. SPIER!! He is direct and honest and went over every detail, he isn't a "hand holder" but he takes time to tell you everything and wants to answer any question you could ever have.
His office staff are the best, I am a nurse so I know what I am saying when I say the are fantastic.
Dr. Spier and his nurse Robin attend each support group meeting and take the time to answer questions plus he does alot of structured aftercare so you are not on your own.On a scale of one to 10, I'd give him a 12!
What I liked least is that he can be impatient and sometimes his directness is borderline rude, still I adore him!

I liked him, though he was very stoic at first. After talking to him awhile I began to understand his dry sense of humor.
