I met Dr. Spier for the first time at a support group meeting. I really wasn't sure about him but as I had my first appointment with him I did find him very confident and certain about himself. He does have a very dry sense of humor.
Staff is good, the nurse is WONDERFUL, made me feel good and that in itself made me relaxed but still alittle nervous.
When I came into the office the first time I was not really welcomed and waited and waited until the receptionist acknowledged me but I chalked it up to a busy day.
My surgery is on Thursday 11-7-2002.

6/12/02 Dr Spier is very nice and answers all questions honestly and willingly. As for his sense of humor,he does have one. I know because hy husbands is just like it. His staff are very nice and super easy to deal with. Jan (ins person) returns phone calls very promptly.I will, and have, recomended Dr Spier to several people.
10/17/02 My surgey went fine.Dr Spier came in to see me everyday(Robyn even came too once!)I've been to see him 2x and he takes time to answer questions and explains things very clear.

They are in the Tricare Prime network. My initial consult is 5/29/02!!
I finally met him at a support group meeting on 4/25. I liked him immediately. He has a sense of humor that is similar to my own. He spoke to a few of us that are scheduled for initial consults after the meeting and went through the entire process, start to finish, including his insistence on aftercare. I was very impressed and felt even better about choosing him as my surgeon. I can't wait for my consult!
The consult went fine. He's very direct and to the point. He has a 4 year aftercare program that is included with his services. Surgery is now scheduled for September 17, 2002.
Surgery went without a hitch. Dr Spier is awesome! I was really in very little pain and he explained everything very well.

I attended the group meeting Thursday *-22-02 in Springfield and Dr. Spier and his nurse Robin was there. The meeting was informal and very informational. After words I talked with Robin for a bit but, the best thing was a gentleman who had the surgery came up to me and my SO and provided us with lots of information in addition to the web location of the support group.
Dr. Spier was very straight forward and spent as much time with me as I needed. While he was running approx an hour behind schedule he still asked three times if I had any additional questions or concerns that needed to be addressed. He encouraged me to attend the group meetings before and after the surgery. He and Robin both have a great sense of humor as does his other office staff. At no time did I feel hurried or like I was a number. When I talked with Jan (handles his insurance) I felt that I wouldn't have to spend time following up on her to make sure the paper work was sent out. All in all it was a very smooth visit and I came away feeling good.
Patients in the waiting area was talking among themselves and to other newbies. There didn't seem to be any hesitation in good vibes for him or his staff. Also the hospital received good reviews.
At this point I and my SO both feel that I have made the right choice for the surgeron to do the job. At this time I found nothing negative about him or his staff.

He was very straight forward. He told me to ask anything he was very open and friendly.
He did not rush me. He made me feel important. He tells you the pro's and con's upfront and explains before and after with everything. He is very clear on everything. Jenny Mauller
Now that I have had my surgery I can say I could not have found a better more careing surgeon and staff than with Dr. Spier. He is top notch . He makes you feel important and that you come first. I would recommend him to anyone. Jenny Mauller

He is very nice, but very straight forward. He knows why you need the surgery.
It is up to you to get a letter of referral from your primary doctor. With a list of co-morbities reasons & why you didn't do well with diet programs. That is to get the insurance part started.
So far no surgeon problems. Only one visit.
I have 2 problems with my primary medical doctor.
1) He feels this type of surgery is too dangerous, so is refusing that type of referral letter.
2) He wants me to start a diet or weight management program that does not accept Medicare or Insurance coverage; Cash only!
He was not my medical doctor when I was on other diet programs. My doctor retired & that was why I switched doctors. Now I need to find a doctor that understands the need for this type of surgery.
I want the surgery.
The surgeon has great office staff. Friendly & helpful.
He has general meetings before & after surgery, plus check-ups.
I need to get to know the surgeon before I can give extra comments.
Right now I have other problems to overcome.
