Dr. Spier was delightful on my initial visit. He was very upfront about how he performed the surgery. What the recovery would look like. He answered my questions. He discussed all the risks with me.

He is the best. I'm very impressed. There were no complications, no unneccessary drama.

I was very impress with Dr. Spier, he attends all of the support meetings. It started at 6:30 and he was still there at 9:00 answering all questions no matter how dumb they might be. His nurse Robyn also attends and give alot of helpful information.
This is all done on there own time.

I went to consultation with Dr. Spier on the 17th of June. He was very direct and made sure I understood everything. Dr. Spier is very direct in his anwsers and a dry sense of humor. The office staff was very friendly and helpful too. Now to wait on the insurance for approval. I hope the wait is not long.

Wow, He is very straight forward and very honest. He does have a sense of humor. He is very confident in what he says and I am sure he has very good reason to be.

Robyn is his nurse and has had the open rny and she is very helpful and great to talk too.

I walked in with an open mind and left with the feeling that I had made the right desicion on going there.

He really pushes the after care and wants to see you in his office so he can monitor how well you are doing.

He does address the risks of surgery and explains why some things happen and how to avoid them.

I think he is wonderful and I would recommend him to anyone considering the surgery.

My first impression of Dr. Spier was that he was confident, intelligent, and completely full of mischief. I liked his matter of fact personality. He teases which makes it easy to build a rapport with him, although, I gather he is pretty serious through his humor. He is thorough and very deliberate in his questions and evaluations. His staff is wonderful. They are very helpful and are willing to go to work to help you get your surgery scheduled. Robyn and Jan are just fantastic. I am so impressed with how efficient they are!
Another thing that is worth mentioning is Dr. Spier and Robyn attend every support group meeting each month. I think that is a huge committment to the well-being and after care of his patients...it is a great way to become familiar with him and the WLS procedure too!
Okay, all this glory and no bad stuff-not true...Dr. Spier may rub someone the wrong way. He is honest and blunt. But, I like that quality and appreciate an honest doctor. No surprises, no secrets... you are completly aware of his intentions and plans. Hey, you may not like what he has to say, but would you be sitting in his office if you didn't exhaust all other possiblities for weight loss? So, be prepared to hear what you wish others would not say aloud.
Aftercare... I will keep you posted.

Dr. Spier is very precise and to the point. My attitude hasn't changed in regard to the appointment. The office staff is cordial but business at the same time. They get the job done. Dr. Spier does not mince words. He comes out with it. He tells you exactly what you need to know. He does respect the individual as far as your goals and achievements in weight loss. I would recommend him to anyone.

I have met with him once, and seen him at his WLS support group of patients. He does not pull any punches and lets you know right up front what he is going to do and why. He is not without a sense of humor, but it is very dry. He tells you all the risks, and what to expect. He tells you what you can expect at the hospital, a general idea of the diet you will follow, when he wants to see you post-op.
His nurse, Robin, has also had Roux en Y WLS. She is very nice and helpful. So was Jan, who deals with the insurance cos.
My husband accompanied me to the support group meeting and was suitably impressed.
My mother happened to talk to a nurse who works at the hospital in Springfield and was told that Dr. Spier is very good, and highly recommended. Since my mother is a retired nurse and is excited for me to have the surgery anyway, she was glad to have this extra acknowledgement of the Dr.

Somewhat gruff but to the point. Seems toknow what he is talking about but does not like jokes. His office staff were grumpy also-maybe they were having a bad day. His nurse had the surgery and looks good-she is your best bet for any information.Aftercare and all was explained but know I have a problem with insurance and his insurance lady said to fix it myself. Not very helpful. But the doctor is the best at this in his field so if you can get past the staff you will be ok.

Off the wall sense of humor. Very informative. I first met him at a G.B.S support group meeting, liked him right away and never changed my opinion. Dr. Spier has a very helpful office staff, in fact his nurse has had gastric by-pass surgery and is a great source of info. Dr. Spier tells it like it is and does not hold anything back. He welcomes questions and attends every monthly support group meeting along with his nurse. I only had my surgery almost four weeks ago but so far the aftercare that has been provided has been good. The risks of the surgery were explained to me and I even got to see a video of the surgery being performed before I had mine done. I would sing Dr. Spier's praises to any that are considering gastric by-pass. He is sugically competent but his bedside manner can use some help.

Dr. Spier is very professional and has an excellent reputation. He takes as much time as is needed to explain the procedure and to assure you understand completely. His nurse is lovely and also offers her support to you as well. He has a delightful office staff that are willing to help you in any way. His insurance gal Jan is amazing! She knows everything about insurance and explains up front what the patients responsibilities are what we need to do to better our chances of approval.Listen to her and you will be just fine!
