Hospital of Saint Raphael (COE) Hospital

The poor review I gave of the hospital isn't because of the staff on the normal floor that wls patients are placed on (5 west), but because of the rudeness and uncourteousness of a few nurses on the SICU floor. On the wls floor the only complaint I had was that you really didn't have any privacy because the rooms (most) had to be shared. Also the nurses were a little slow at night helping me to the bathroom. other than that the staff was great on the 5th floor!

I am about 400 lbs, so I had to have a "special" bed... It was the pits... You didn't climb in the bed from the side, you sat at the bottom of the bed, raised your feet, they inflated the mattress - with a pump, I then lowered the top end of the bed to lay down so I could "scooch" up on the bed, and then re-raised the head portion of the bed. The pump, or the staff, wasn't operating the bed correctly, so my last night in, a warning beep constantly sounded. The staff couldn't make it stay off. Finally, I slept in a lounge chair for a few hours. When my husband finally came about 10 AM, the alarm was going off, but I was sound asleep from pure exhaustion.
My room was very hot, the nurse said that they couldn't adjust the air conditioning. She told me twice that she would check for a fan with engineering - no fan. When the next nurse came on, I told her that I was still extremely hot and wanted an ice pack. She asked if I wanted a fan, I said yes and had it in 2 minutes.
This is an old-fashioned hospital. The call buttons do not connect to the nurses station. They have to look for a light in the hall. My poor roommmate (non-bypass) had a stint of vomitting my last night. I put the light on and no one came... They seemed to be all "at lunch"... I had to walk to the nurses station to get one to help me get back into bed. I ended up yelling help for my roommate...
I'm sorry, but I wouldn't wish this hospital on my worse enemy... I know that the stays aren't supposed to be like spa visitis, but they shouldn't be like torture chambers either.

The intensive care nurses were not the best I think they could have. They were not patient but were kind. The floor in my room was washed only once when my fellow patient left. The bathrooms were the same and stunk. I guess there is a hugh shortage for help. The nurses were working 12 hr. shifts and 7 days a week. It made me wonder sometimes if they kept me and my roommate seperate as we were getting the same medicines. I had to ask a couple of times for mine.
