My room was beautiful!!! Especially for a hospital room. Wood floors, freshly redone.
Nurses were responsive with pain medication and other physical needs. When it was time to walk that first afternoon and on thru the night---they or a PCT was there to accompany me until I could negotiate the hallway with an IV pole on my own.
Beds had air mattresses. Not as unbearable as the old "style." The recliner in my room was FABULOUS. I think I sat/slept there more than I did my bed.
Bathroom was large. Plenty of room for me and the IV Pole. However on day of discharge, I had to use the "hall shower." Talk about SMALL about the size of a phone booth.
One night Dietary "forgot" to bring me dinner and the charge nurse was able to round up s/f popsicles and s/f Jello for me. They keep those on the floor for GB patients.
Patient transport between 5th floor and Radiology were just great---they were attentive to needs making sure that ifyou were cold, you got a warm blanket before heading downstairs.
Overall----Excellent

The nurses on the Bariatric unit were great. I've never seen any that were as conscientous and kind as these.

I was the first lap-band patient at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville Florida. The best part is that I would have never guessed that. They were very courteous and knowledgeable about my health concerns and the surgery.

Being a nurse myself I am very critical of my experiences with other nurses. Pre op and PACU nurses were great, however the floor nurses were just okay.

You must have someone stay with you the first night. You need to walk every 4 hours. Staff told me if no-one stayed, I wouldn't be walked. I was not expecting this so mu husband had to stay and take another day off from work. Wish I knew ahead of time.

May 2005 - So far so good. I had to have a few tests done at the hospital (pre-op) and they were all very nice!!

Not very clean, some nursing staff not very knowlegable about meds, cleanliness and patient procedures were not followed as they should have been.

They were very accomodating to my family who were understandably nervous. They went the extra mile to comfort them. Everyone I came in contact with was pleasant and helpful. My needs were taken care of almost before I needed them. The only problem was that my husband slept in a chair because the bed he was promised never made it.
