Memorial Hospital (COE) Hospital

The out-patient check-in ladies were not extremely friendly. Once I got past the check-in procedure, everyone was very friendly and supportive. The nurses in the pre-Op were super!! They certainly made a lasting impression. The nurses on my floor were friendly but a little slow. Everytime I had to get up and walk, my IV machine would beep nonstop when I returned to the room and plugged it back in. They would sit and let it beep for 20+ minutes before they would come and reset it. My IV began to backwash and fill with blood because the machine had been shut off for too long. They were also a little slow bringing my pain medications. I had to call a few times to remind them it was time and that I was hurting.
Even so, it wasn't a bad experience.

I was extremely disappointed that the hospital continued to serve me a clear liquid diet without any restrictions on sugar. Not one item I received was sugar free, nor did I receive sweet-n-low as an option to sweeten coffee or tea which were not decaf either. It just doesn't make sense to give surgical weight loss patients packets of sugar and regular jello if sugar helped put them there in the first place.

Memorial is a bright, attractive hospital with VERY friendly people who seem to be very efficient and proactive. I did have a couple of incidents where the girl at the nurses's station didn't get a message to my nurse as requested but I was fortunate to have my family with me to track the nurse down when needed. The nurses were very apologetic about the "girl" at the desk - seems she was new. Also, it was odd, but they gave me a clear liquid diet that was NOT sugar free - I didn't know till later, but that caused me problems (see my profile). Make sure that the clear liquid diet they give you is sugarfree - everything - it makes a world of difference!!!

I couldn't say enough about my nurse that I had at the hospital. I was only in the hospital overnight, and she was wonderful. She had such a great attitude, on the ball, VERY knowledgeable, very approachable, which is hard to find these days since some nurses don't feel they actually have to answer questions too. She was wonderful, and I couldn't say anything better about the care that she gave.

I liked most of the nurses and I was able to request pain medicine every 3 hours. I had a private room with plenty of space for the many vistors that came by during my stay. Overall, I was impression with the knowledge the nurses had because most of the 5th floor is dedicated to patients of Dr Sooriash and Dr Yasrebi for gastric bypass surgery.
