Mills-Peninsula (COE) Hospital

My experience was fine. Most of the staff were very accommodating and helpful (the night staff were the best!). My dr. stopped by twice a day to check in and I rarely experienced pain. I only had one fiasco with radiology followed by a crazy day on the floor where my room was (it was mother's day). Other than that I had a comfortable private room that was quiet, and everyone was really nice.

1. Would always forget I couldn't have straws post-operatively.
2. Acted as if my 2-3 day post-op headache was unusual when it turned out two other post op bariatric patients had the same headache as I did.
3 Staff CONSTANTLY hollering down the halls looking for one another rather than looking quietly.
4. Bed from HELL!! NEVER have I been more uncomfortable.
5. Staff kept rushing my food trays away. They seemed unaware that I needed more than 15-30 minutes to make a dent in the tray.
6. Shortage of large size gowns.
7. Didn't have a binder (I had open RNY) that fit me and I KNOW I wasn't the biggest patient they'd ever had.

I believe that Mills Peninsula hospital is an excellent place to have WLS as well as any other corresponding surgery (specifically gallbladder which I did have out 09/02). The entire nursing staff although very small and limited as there was no floor or area "designated" for WLS patients at the time were extremely caring and very sensitive to a WLS patient's varied needs and never made me feel self conscious during my stay.

Peninsula Medical Center is the best hospital that I have every been a patient in, and I have had multiple hospitalizations. The staff were caring, compassionate, and very responsive to my needs. In the area where I live, everyone rates Stanford Medical Center as the best; but Peninsula Medical Center is far superior to Stanford Medical Center.
