Good Morning All! I had my 9 month check-up yesterday and everything is pretty good. Need to double up on the Vitamin A, it did make improvements but still needs to get higher. The only other things was my PTH was high, so I need to stay on top of my calcium. If it's still high in December a visit to the endocrinologist will get scheduled.

My NP is super happy with where I'm at and my NUT said if I'm happy that's fine, if I want to lose more just to add another shake back in. We will see I'm pretty happy. I will be calling plastics for a consult to get a plan together and figure out the cost of things.

Time Since Surgery: 9 Months

B: Double Scoop Unjury Shake

S: Babybel and grapes

L: Brought leftover pork tenderloin, but forgot I'm going out so not sure

S: Turkey and Gouda Roll-Up

D: Pizza Toppings, maybe one slice thin crust depending on what I eat for lunch.

Great job on the 9 month check in!  I would like to add in my "two cents" that if you want to lose more weight is it not counterproductive to "add another shake?"  Why up the calories if you want to lose more, in fact its the opposite, if you want to lose more you need to stay where you are calorie wise (I don't know what you eat as you didn't post totals) or drop down a few calories to lose more.  You are nearing the end of your honeymoon period where the weight seems to "fall off".  So to lose more don't increase calories, drop calories.  Make sense?

Good luck with the Plastics consult!

I guess I should have said replace a snack with a shake. Sorry. She told me to add the shake back in as my snack instead of whatever I would normally eat, to boost the protein.

"two cents" here too- you are already having one shake, there is no advantage to two. Real food or shakes, it is all food.... and extra shake isn't going to help. In the beginning when it is hard to eat, they help to keep your protein numbers up ....

Yay for Plastics! My best advice is go to someone who is a specialist or has done lots of surgeries on people with massive weight loss. We are not the same. The quantity and quality of our skin is different. Every PS will say they do it... but do your research, and go to more than one consultation... they all are very nice, because they are selling themselves, but they will each have a different take on the same surgery. Good Luck!

Have you had a DEXA bone density scan? Having one every two years is the best way to stay on top of your bone health.

I've had problems absorbing oral calcium from the beginning. I was up to 2500 -- 500 five times a day. I switched to the patch multi and D3/calcium patch, and started doing much better.

I'll mention the DEXA scan to my primary doc on my next appointment, she will probably think it's a great idea. I was gonna try the patches to see if I do better on them because I can't seem to remember the Calcium chews no matter what I do.

Morning everyone!

I'm so glad it's Thursday! Ive been so busy between working my FT job, and real estate, that I haven't had time to even think! (ok, so I've made time to shop, but really, priorities!)... today I am leaving this job at 9:20am to go to an inspection for a house that we have under contract for this sweet kid I've been helping all summer - I REALLY hope it goes well because he needs this house, and I need to NOT show him any more homes!... Tomorrow I get off at this job at 11:30, and head South for a closing for a friend's home she just bought. I'll spend the afternoon helping her move some small stuff, head home, grab my son and spend some time with him. Daughter will be at an away FB game with band, and Hubs is out of town... Saturday State Fair, and Band/Guard competition in the evening... Sunday, helping the friend move all the BIG stuff into that new home... I need another client though, so if you know anyone in Oklahoma City, let me know! I love to sell houses, because you know... I need something to stress about and stay busy!

QOTD: Well, I'm more than halfway to whatever goal I hope I end up at as far as weight loss, but I don't think I've changed much at all. I am still 6 lbs heavier than the last time I lost weight, so I am still beating myself up over that. I am really HOPING that what will change is me beating myself up over weight... that I'll look at pictures one day and really love myself in them. I already love myself in person (hahaha), and think I'm a pretty hot lady for my age when I look at myself in the mirror... but in pictures, I still see bulges and fat. I'd like to say that I am a confident, funny, outgoing person... and that is definitely how people would describe me. But inside, I'm terribly critical of myself. Healthwise I have been very lucky. The only comorbidity I've dealt with is sleep apnea, and that wasn't diagnosed until I started the WLS journey. Since losing, I'm off of my CPAP... but I know had I kept up where I was going, I would have eventually found myself with them.  So, ask me this question again in a year please

B: Premier Protein Shake (early, like at 7:15 - conference call Thursday)

S: 1.7oz ribeye and one big juicy grilled shrimp! (very soon, before I leave!)

L: 2.7oz ribeye

D: Taking my son out to dinner, so I have no clue, but I am confident it will be protein forward!

Boy you are a busy lady!!  Love that you can do all that stuff now!!

Beating yourself up is hard, I get that and I do it too and I am terribly critical of myself as well.  Glad you are off the CPAP that's great!

Enjoy dinner with your son!

Morning friends.  Another beautiful meeting day here at work.  Uhg!  Meetings are a pain in the butt.

QOTD: WLS has changed everything and nothing.  I am the same, sort of like what Grimm said, but everything around me has changed. The world and I interact differently now. The biggest most profound change though is that I have gained at least three hours in each and every day with the new level of energy I have. Literally I have more living available to me. When I think about that it is so incredible and wonderful.

If you will indulge me I will explain...I work with death and dying and do grief counseling. Death and I are long term friends.  I have suffered deaths in my personal world (all my grandparents, both of my parents, Aunt, cousins, friends...the list is depressingly long). I deal with death and dying everyday in my professional world. As a relationship educator I frequently talk about the 'Gift of Death' when I teach.

It goes sort of like this... Being face to face, bedfellows really, with death has allowed me to see each day as a gift and a privilege. I never wake up and fail to be grateful for the day. I know death comes for us all and that we never know when. Death gives me appreciation for every minute.  I've often said that the one thing I wish I could have is more time. I point out to students that giving someone your time, even just sitting for a cup of coffee, is a generous act when you realize that time is fleeting.

Because of WLS I have MORE TIME! I am awake, alive, bouncing around, doing active things for at least three more hours every day compared to prior to surgery. Over the course of just one year I have gained 1095 hours...that is 45 days!!!

No wealth on this Earth, no power or authority, no brilliant plan, nothing...nothing I can do can change the number of days I get to live. Except WLS did just that.

Holy smokes...THAT is some deep **** And I haven't even finished my coffee yet. :)

Menu: Same as yesterday...for real. I might need a trip to the grocery again.

Enjoy your day!

~Elizabeth
