Before & After RNY with AngileeJ, losing 125 pounds!

Why I Decided to Have WLS

My sister is 11 months older than I am, and she was always in shape without having to exercise. I got tired of hearing, "Angilee has a pretty face, but she is so big." It affected my self-esteem.

I tried the Atkins Diet, Phentermine pills, but I kept gaining weight until I hit 249 pounds. I was tired all the time, and I did not want to go out. I cooked all the time and stayed in my room watching tv. One day my mom mention the gastric bypass, and I decided to look into the surgery. I decided to have the surgery because this surgery would allow me to modify my behaviors and live a healthier life!

My Surgery and Post-Op Life

The first week was hard. After surgery, they made me get up and walk, it was hard getting out of bed, but once I was out walking, it made me feel much better. Ten days postop, I lost 19.4 pounds, the G-tube was out, and I felt better.

On the day of surgery, I was 249 pounds. At five months, I was 165 pounds. At seven months, it slowed down. On my 1-year anniversary, I was 147 pounds, having lost 127 pounds. Losing that much weight, I had to deal with friends/family saying I was too small, and I looked sick. These comments really can affect a gastric bypass patient. Our body will stabilize, and the weight loss will stop, but we cannot control when.

In 2005, I met a great guy, and we got married, I had my first child in August 2006, my second child in June 2009, and my third child in July 2010. Each pregnancy was very healthy and uneventful, and all my kids were 6-pound babies. I am not sure if that was due to my bypass or not, but they were full-term 39-40 weeks.

During my weight loss journey, I used the treadmill as my form of exercise. What I took seriously was making sure I took my Iron pills and self-administered B12 injection monthly. I had minimal complications, and even now if I eat too fast or drink too quickly when eating, I may vomit, but that does not happen very often. I eat whatever I like now, bread, rice just in moderation. Overall, this was the best decision I ever made.

My current weight, now 16 years later, fluctuates between 145-150 pounds. I am still happy and very healthy. I do not regret the gastric bypass. It was the best decision for me.

A Special Milestone / Non-Scale Victory

March 2017, I renewed my wedding vows for my 10th year anniversary and was able to wear my original wedding dress. I am living such a different life now. I am motivated to reach all of my dreams. I went back to school and became a nurse, and recently completed my Master's Degree in Healthcare and work in Quality and Patient Safety.
