It's been a while since I've been here...a LONG while!

I have fibro *and* SLE (Lupus)...the double whammy!

The lu*****mptoms had been better since I had my DS and lost weight, and the fibro flares seemed milder...

Until last week.

I had the first  lupus flare that put me in bed since my surgery in 2009.  I was also hospitalized with pneumonia in May.

I differentiate my flares by symptoms.  I had a 24 hour fever with this one, perhaps due to immunosuppressants.

I'm also feeling a lot of shoulder achiness on a daily basis.  I have Voltaren Gel for my knees and ankles, and I've started using it on my shoulders, too.

Just venting here.  I was hoping the weight loss had put me in remission forever.  I've lost 232 pounds to date, from a highest weight of 405.  397 on surgery day.

Topic: RE: Need help deciding on medication
I have tried all three meds used for fibro.. Lyrica made me gain weight,  Cymbalta just didn't control the pain enough now on Savella. so far its been a couple of weeks and I have seen an inprovement. I haven't had any of the side effects that a lot of people have talked about.  I just had a revision to RnY and so with the med change I am doing better than before the revision.

Everything about this disease is all trial and error. What works for me may not work for you.  Find yourself a good pain specialist. That will help alot. and exercise. get those muscles moving even if it hurts. you will feel better in the long run.  Yoga works best for me. and I do it 5 days a week and walk 7.

I hope this helps you some.

Topic: RE: Day 7 of Savella
I have been on Savella for almost 2 weeks now.  My doctor didn't have me titrate into it as I was on over 90 mg of Cymbalta so I just did a crossover. I have found it works better for me than the cymbalta or the Lyrica did.  I haven't had and bouts of nausea and I suffer insomia anyway so I am on pills to make me sleep.

I am also on 1200 mg of Neurotin (Gabapentin).  along with Oxycodone, ametripiline for pain spurs. I am trying to work my pills down, but it's so hard. my pain is yet to be fully under control.  I think this might be the thing I am looking for...

Something you may want to think about. They have come out with a new medication for fibromyalgia called Savella. I have been on it for a couple of weeks and so far it is working better than lyrica or cymbalta did for me.  It's just a thought.. Something to talk to your doctor about. The only bad thing is it is not on Tricares formulary so you will have to get it outside the military hospitals.

I hope this helps.

I too am going through the hoops of SSDI. It is very nerve wracking. I am using a company that fights for denied clients, Allsup. I have been very pleased with the job they have done. They call and interview me over the phone and then they type out and use the correct wording for social security. I don't think I could get through it on my own. Send me a message and I will get your info and recommend you.

I'm so sorry! Can you appeal like we do with insurance companies? I think I've read of people doing that. Take that sadness and turn it intoenergy to fight the decision! I hope something turns around for you!
