Iron Horse Half Marathon

superconducting

Ran the iron horse half in Simsbury, CT today.  Its a really nice area, and it was nice and cool this morning.  About 10 seconds after the gun, it started raining, and raining pretty good.   I don't mind running in the rain, but right at the start to get drenched like that kinda sucked.  By the 3rd mile it was over, but the sneakers and clothes were soaked.  In any event, I was able to run the whole way, and set a new personal record at 2:14:16, beating my goal of 2:15 and smashing my first half time which I did in 2:30.  10:15 pace felt great, wish I would have not slowed down toward the end so I could have been sub-10, but I'll take this with my head up.  The best part was very little "injury" pain and I was strong across the finish line.  Unlike that last half, I actually was able to move this afternoon after the race, even went to a BBQ.  Actually, at the BBQ they had a lake beach, and a dip in the lake (and a decent swim) felt soooooo good.

With my second half under my belt, I guess I am a half marathon vet now :)    Next up, the Classic 10k in Middletown, NY next week!

Congratulations!  That's some pretty fancy footwork to slice more than 15 minutes off your time - and no easy task with the soaking rain.  The shoes feel so heavy after they're drenched.

Congrats Andrew! What a great time/pace!   I'm feeling like a straggler! I don't have my Half until August!!   Great news that your pain/injury is getting less with each race!

Good  luck on the 10K! Smash 'em up!
