Various running questions

Most 5k's give you 45 mins to finish....and you could walk it in that.  Just go, run what you can, and most of all, enjoy the experience!!

Shoes-----take it from this "maw-maw" runner.....you don't have to do large distances to LOSE TOENAILS FROM BAD SHOES!!  I lost the toenails on "this little piggy stayed home (toe 2)" on both feet due to poorly fitted shoes.  I only run 2-3 times a week, 4 miles.  It started with "pain" in the nail....then over time (6 months) they turned black, then THEY FELL OFF!!  I am happy to report they have grown back just fine and are pedi ready!

I cannot stress enough the importance of going to a running store to be properly fitted....best thing I ever did, and only spent $100 on shoes that I will get 500 miles out of......and yes, they are 1 size bigger than my heels.

Kim, that's EXACTLY  what I'm experiencing.

I've never been much of a girly girl and my feet are usually dry with callouses on the heels and big toe.. I'm trying to make them cute for my sister's wedding in April in Vegas.. I just ordered these georgous shoes to go with my maid-of-honor dress.. I'd hate to have two matching black nails!

I lost a toenail after Goofy, and have a few that are showing signs of coming off.  I'm in a wedding next month and will definitely be wearing closed toe! LOL

The good news is nail polish covers them nicely!  Of course, I always wear "hooker red" so that really does the job.....and you know, black nail polish is all the rage....(though I can't bring myself to do it)

Doesn't it seem weird to have this issue that is generally related to "real" athletes!?!  I guess we are now athletes!!

 Yeah, that is neat :)

It was strange for me a few years back..I had gotten heavy into cycling.  I did the DALMAC ride (dick allen lansing to mackinaw) tour.. which was five days 330 miles.. I trained hard.. did lots of spinning through the winter then hit the roads once spring hit.  I trained for close to 800 miles on knobby tires before I bought my road bike.  So by the time I was on the tour with the road bike I had some power.. and I was also 210 lbs.  I had experienced cyclists complimenting me.. noticing me out on the course and telling me how awesome I was doing.  That was just so cool.

Is Crystal Falls in the lower peninnsula?

My DH is from Menominee (UP)...and his sister was in Traverse City.  I love driving across the UP and love Macinac Island!!  Michigan has very beautiful scenery.

Last year we visited Pictured Rocks.....saw some grea****erfalls in the area.

We travel to Menominee every July and it is such a welcome break from the Alabama heat!

Actually, no its in the UP :)  It's about 30 minutes northwest from Iron Mountain.

I lived in Lansing until 2010 though.

I'll be making the drive across the UP and down to Lansing in a couple weeks.. hoping its going to be beautiful.
