Topic: Advice

I haven't lost a pound in 4 weeks.

I haven't changed anything that I can think of.

I'm stuck. What can I do to jump

start the weightloss again. My Vsg was 6/14/16... 240 sw 197 lw 200 cw... I'm eating 3 times a day, mostly protein. I'm slacking on my water though. Could that be it? Dr told me 1000 calories a day and 100g protein. I feel like all i do is eat. Should I start back on protein drinks?

How do you reset your pouch?

Need advice please. I'm walking and doing cardio. Feeling very defeated. Wondering what I'm doing wrong

Topic: RE: Pre-Surgery and First week Post Op Questions

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I'm a dietitian and while every program is different, I thought I'd weigh in too. When it comes to protein it's not always a "more is better" situation. The reason Unjury is often recommended is because it's a whey isolate which has better absorption into the body. The body only absorbs about 30 grams of protein at once so a product that has 35 grams of protein isn't necessarily better. There are plenty of products that are also good but I know for myself it's easier if I give patients a few specific names instead of overwhelming them with too many options :)

Every program is different so we all may have a different experience with what the post-op liquid diet is they are recommending. Yes, you do need protein to survive but the body has protein reserves to use until you are back on protein food/drinks. A protein deficiency isn't something that comes until way down the road. You do want to increase protein intake as your diet progresses but it's not unsafe if they have you wait.

I agree with H.a.l.a. B's last comment regarding sodium too. You do need some and when you are on a liquid diet, you aren't getting it from anywhere else.

GREAT questions as you embark on this journey! Wishing you all the best!!

Topic: RE: My Fitness Pal App

Hi Kyzze,

I have the premium version. I think whether or not it's worth it to you depends on what you are looking for.

There are things about MyFitnessPal that are frustrating to me that upgrading to premium did not fix.

Like...

(1) being able to directly share recipes with your friends like you can on LoseIt

(2) being able to scan directly into "my foods" rather than having to type in each thing (which is hard with fresh fruits and veggies)

(3) being able to transfer foods from "frequent" or "recent" to "my foods"

(4) the fact that when you add a food item to your diary you can scan it, but it doesn't add it to the "my foods" library

(5) the fact that foods filed under "frequent" and "recent" are neither frequent nor recent LoL.

That being said, I like MyFitnessPal better than LoseIt. And there are useful things that come with premium.

(1) Your nutrient dashboard. You can choose "default" which shows remaining food, exercise and calories, "Macro-nutrients" (which is what I have it set on... shows my remaining calories and macro-nutrients for the day at the top of my dashboard page), "heart healthy" showing fat, sodium. cholesterol and calories, "Low Carb" which will show remaining carbs, sugar, dietary fiber and calories, and "Custom Summary" where you can select any 3 nutrients to track.

(2) Different goals by day. Allows you to set different calorie and macro-nutrient goals for any day of the week.

(3) Macro-nutrients by gram. Set macro-nutrient goals by gram or by percentage.

(4) Exercise calorie settings. You can set this to track your exercise with or without increasing your daily calorie goals.

(5) Food analysis (which I love). Shows you which foods rank highest in the nutrients you care about.

(6) Quick add macro-nutrients. If you know how many calories you ate, you can use the "quick add" function to enter that amount into the diary without having to search for the specific foods you ate.

(7) Macro-nutrients by meal. Lets you fiddle with your diary page. Show Macros by meal or not, show all meals in diary tabs, use multi-add as your default, show diary food insights, always show water in diary or not, show news feed on the home tab or not, lets you choose which food tab is your default (I set mine to "my foods"), lets you choose who you share your diary with and allows you to customize meal names.

(8) Export your information. I haven't used this yet... but it seems kind of cool. From what I understand, you can download CSV files of your progress, meal and exercise history, and then share it with... I guess your doctors or whoever directly from the app.

(9) Priority customer support.

(10) Ad free... of course.

(11) Exclusive content. I'm enjoying this too. Exclusive recipe meal plans and nutrition tips.

(12) Calorie goals by meal. Stay on track with a calorie goal for each meal.

Also, I am paying month to month on mine rather than a year at a time. I read somewhere when signing up that if you cancel before your "term" is over, you have to pay out the duration.

Hope this helps you.

I wish I had an answer for you but suggest you call your surgeon  if you haven't done so already. Feel better

I make these with sugar free barbeque sauce and no breadcrumbs.  They work well for making ahead:

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

I cook 3 pounds of chicken breasts at the start of the week and cook it before portioning it into 4 ounces for meals.  I use spices that vary; curry one week, harissa the next, italian the third.  I used to hate vegetables, but I've "trained" myself to enjoy them.  Everyone is different.  This week I bought sugar free barbeque sauce at Walmart and made BBQ chicken and 1/4c of sweet potato per serving.  I usually skip veggies all together unless it's in a quiche.  Truthfully, there's often not room for any after protein for me.

We actually don't know if capsules like that work in the body as well as vegetables.  Could you do a quiche or stir fry? Those can last a week and are also very edible.

Soups are good too.  You could easily make soups low in carbs and puree veggies in them so you don't notice.

I also make meatballs with veggie marinara.  If you put a few carrots in tomato sauce it helps make it less acidic.  Another good way to get some veg, at least.

I am a busy single mom and I need to plan meals and cook in bulk on weekends to help with my busy weeks.  Almost 2 months in GB and deciding what to eat has been very difficult.  Another downfall is I hate most vegetables.  Thought I was doing well with my Juice Plus when my nutritionist told me the capsules probably were not even dissolving.

On my list so far is the following but I am getting so sick of these.

chicken salad

tuna salad

chili

baked potatoes

eggs

beans & sausage

Topic: Almost 2 months post-op and now nothing goes down well at all except for liquids

I am 2 months post op GB, and for the last 3 days, no food goes down well.   Today, I vomited white foam.  I have no idea what that was.

I need help with my nutrition because I know I am not getting my protein in unless I drink skim milk.  I'm also craving lots of cold water.

Any help is appreciated.
