I'm so sorry to be repetitive (I've already posted a few times about my protein drink issues) but I am so worried because I'm not getting the protein down. I finally today forced down a premier protein drink. It is the best of the bunch but I'm not sure if it is the smell or what, it is very hard for me to drink. I'm worried to death about the hair loss I will experience because of this. Other than this one thing, my pre and post surgery experience have been great, much better than I thought. Anyway, my last and final question on the matter is - Is the supposedly taste free protein powder that you mix into foods actually TASTE FREE?
there is no such thing as taste free protein powder. The unflavored ones just mean they are not flavored with chocholate or vanilla, etc.
whey protein has a taste and it is a bit sour tasting.
Hair loss is the lest of the worries. If you don't get enou protein in,your body will start eating your muscles for protein. Considering your heart, lungs and kidneys are muscles, that is more of an issue than hair loss. You should be
I am happy that I am not the only one with this question. I had RNY on November 9th...never a problem with liquids...which made me very nervous about my future with solid food. I just transitioned over to soft/pureed foods and I have been tolerating well. Hopefully it will keep going in the same direction.

Hi,
I Reduced the water volume by about a half, so instead of 4 cups total I used 2 cups.
I dissolved 80 grams of protein worth of unflavoured hydrolyzed whey protein isolate into 1 cup luke warm water, avoiding clumping. The luke water seems to aid in this. Hot and cold clump it up.
The jello mix was dissolved into one cup of boiling water and stirred until it was all incorporated. Pour the hot into the cold whey water, to avoid heating the whey up. Stir to mix and refrigerate to set.
You wind up with jello that has 20 grams of protein per 1/2 cup serving.
Didn't taste bad and went down easy!
Hey, our newest trick is to mix the powder into sugar free jello and make jigglers. They go down so easy!
How exactly do you so that?

Absolutely not. It smells and tastes like protein powder which to me tastes and smells like sour milk. Try the BSN Synta-6 and you will not go back to anything else.

BSN Syntha-6 Vanilla Ice Cream or Chocolate Milkshake. They are the only protein powders that do not smell like sour milk. They do have other flavors but I used chocolate and vanilla and did my own flavoring with sugar free syrups.

Protein drinks smell like spoiled milk. There is one that smells good and tastes good. It is Syntra-6 from BSN. Once I found that one it was the only one I used. When you open the canister and smell it, it smells like cake mix. It makes great shakes. I hope you get some. I have tried everyone out there and the only other one I can stand is premixed Premier, but the BSN is much better.

Instead of a drink, maybe try mixing a bit of unflavored protein into you foods. I did that often during my first 3 months post-op.
Protein is very important. The first couple of months it is very hard to get enough in without supplementing. That being said your tastebuds will change. By 5 weeks out I thought I couldn't drink another one. Then I found Fit frappe and Click in mocha which is coffee flavored. Sort of like a frappachino. I do like the Inspire Pumpkin Pie. I used to add instant coffee to the premier. Now I actually enjoy the premier room temp or hot like hot chocolate. You can also mix plain protein powder into foods like soup, yogurt and cottage cheese to up their protein. I've used these 2:
Protein Powder
They both have clean tastes...
The new Fairlife milk has no lactose and higher protein than regular milk. That might help too to make your own shakes.
