Wow such an inspiration! Congrats on your 14 years
You look amazing and I'm excited to meet you some day once this COVID is over.
Keep up the great work... the smiling suits you so much better!

14 years ago I had my roux en y surgery in Ypsilanti, Michigan. It was my first surgery besides my wisdom teeth removal so I was quite the nervous wreck. No big health problems so I worried that I was trading good for bad. My bmi at my highest was 51.
The GOOD - no medications, no big health issues, mobility is good, no worrying about fitting in backseats of cars or other tight spaces. One size does fit all.
This body moves well and these legs are strong and bring me many places although they crack like the Dickens when I bend. Lol. I'm hitting 50 years of age in a few months.
The BAD - osteopenia from wrong calcium (take citrate, please!) but once I switched to the right calcium I had no more further loss. Reactive hypoglycaemia kicks my butt on the odd, odd occasion but I've learned to manage it very well. Iron is perpetually low and needs refuelling.
The UGLY- the food issues (binge eater) continue to be my struggle. It takes perpetual work to dust myself off, pick myself off and get back on track but I do it....constantly. I was the chubby kid, overweight teen and obese adult. This "lifestyle" is not naturally imbedded in my brain. It's work to maintain it. And yes I've had regain. But I gain, freak out, cry on my scale and throw a little tantrum with my scale and I realize that to keep it off it's ALL ME and MY FOOD CHOICES and I'm going to have to be consistent to keep it off.
The SUCCESS can be attributed to staying in support groups, attending wls conferences, talking with other patients, seeking help when I need it from self help books, weigh****chers, mindful eating classes. Whatever I can find I will often try for a while and it helps me to repurpose and refocus.
No one said it would be easy. It isn't. Long term it's the hardest work you'll ever do. But it is definitely worth it.

Happy Thursday menu gang ;)
This has been a steady week - working normal days and then continuing on yardwork in the evenings. We were supposed to get rain but it has missed us over both lakes. Last night I found a bargain on some hibiscus trees so bought 2 of them and planted them in hopes we get a nice soaking tonight and again Saturday as forecast. We shall see! I didn't get out for my walk last night but had been doing about 50 minute to hour walks up until then.
Weight wise I'm down another 2 lbs so no complaints since we had a fathers day bbq at my place Sunday. I did kabobs, and salads so those were fine but I also had to taste my baked cheesecake with choc cookie base,, served with strawberries. I stuck to half a piece and enjoyed every bite.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
Thanks so much for the reply! I cant imagine doing a sleep test. I dont think I will feel safe at all. My BMI is quite high. I dont own a scale but it is between 48 and 50 for sure. I have my first appointment tomorrow. Hopefully there will be time to ask questions. It is a virtual appointment, new covid protocols. The receptionist told me they are just starting surgeries again starting Monday. I am so anxious to know what type of backlog there is and how much longer I will have to wait. It's been 4 months since my referral.
Hello and welcome!
It will depend on what your bariatric clinic sets out for tests... they seem to vary clinic to clinic. For instance, my team required a sleep test on anyone with a high BMI (over 40 I believe) and so I was required to have one.
It's not a terrible test... all they do is stick little monitors with wires at different points on your body,,,, you lay in a bed and sleep for the night, then are unhooked in the morning. There is a girl that checks to make sure the monitors stay stuck but is not sitting in the room where you sleep watching you (there is a camera along the ceiling). I thought my sleep was decent but found out that I had fairly serious sleep apnea, so was put on a CPAP machine. It took me a month of so to get used to but now am happy when I wake up feeling completely rested.
Best of luck

Hello everyone! I am wondering, is a sleep test mandatory? Can someone tell me what it is exactly? I cant imagine going to a clinic and sleeping with someone watching me. I dont have any sleep difficulties. I dont want a sleep study :'(
Good morning
I couldn't agree more that it was a beautiful weekend to be outside! I too worked on yard maintenance after the storm that came through last week and knocked down a crap load of branches. We ended up picking up 5 trailer loads, I removed all the rocks around my trees and replaced them with mulch so that we won't have to weedwack. I counted all of the bending, lifting and walking back and forth as my workout. Yesterday I woke up sore just like Meg!
QOTD: My property is about an acre so there is quite a bit of grass (yard) at both back and front of my house. A couple of years ago I hired a landscape company to totally rip out my front garden that runs along the house. It is now done in rock with neatly placed bushes, decorative grasses and trees. I have carpet roses, hydrangeas, pyramid boxwoods, a Japanese Maple, a redbud tree, a few golden cypress, hostas and decorative grasses. Very low maintenance. I just plant a few annuals in my large planters and place them here an there to give pops of red. In the back I have not redone my flower garden yet so that may be next years project. A few weeks ago we planted 35 blue spruce along the rear property line for a wind/snow barrier but they will be a few years before they are any real size.

Good morning :)
It was so beautiful out this weekend we spent a lot of time working outside. We had a small yard/garden area that has been neglected since we moved in. We finally dealt with it in a more permanent way -- pulled out some wood that was holding in the soil, tore down a section of fence, trimmed a tree, turned the soil, and prepped it for grass. I was sooooo sore after all that work lol. We have a weird layout to our property -- the yard is basically divided up into four sections -- front, side, driveway, back. We use the side yard the most as it is fenced for the dogs. But the fence creates a division of the other areas.
QOTD: gardens, grass, or other? We have changed over the years. When we first moved in we tore out most of the garden areas and put down grass -- one garden was filled with rock as it was too close to the foundation and needed better drainage. We basically only left the garden in front of our house. We tore down old fences (replaced one), pulled down a rotted retaining wall around a tree (neighbour kids like to climb up by the tree and the retaining wall was getting dangerous), and just generally made our maintenance easier -- fewer things to look after each year. However I do like growing herbs and stuff, so I did start a compost pile which we finally used this year :)
