So I just left my 2nd visit at Wharton Medical Clinic and I am really disappointed and a bit pissed off.

I don't see how this clinic is really beneficial to an obese person. They want you to go every 6 weeks. Isn't part of healthy eating for us, the accountability?

Who is there to help me if I can't make it to 6 weeks? Every time I'm there I met with a different doctor and a different bariatric educator, and those Bariatric Educators (BE), don't really seem to care one bit!

She gave me my meal plan and ran through it in about 5 minutes, didn't really give me much help at all. Thank Goodness I know how to do it, or I'd be really confused.

Then the doctor comes in, asks about any changes in meds, etc, and says, Are You Motivated? I said No. He says, Well this is for you. and THAT'S IT. Huh? No words of encouragement from anyone? He then tells the BE to write in my file, encouraging words given. Really? That was encouraging? He listened to my heart and he left.

At one point I asked the BE, I'm a little confused how this place helps an obese person? She noted the classes and coming to get weighed once a week. I asked do you speak to anyone when you get weighed? She said, well the nurse who weighs you.

Oh.

It feels like it is an OHIP money grab to me.

Is it me? Am I expecting miracles?

Does anyone feel the same way as me? Any other better experiences?

And here I thought it was just me.

Dr Wharton has latched onto a real Government sponsered cash grab. The only success I had was not wanting to show some improvement each visit so I did it on my own. There wasn't much help from these Bariatric kids right out of school and every time a different doctor that was totally indifferent to my needs. Your experience was my "exact" experience.

In Feb my Dr signed me up with the diabetic Centre on St Catharines and they have been awesome.

The group (about 10 of us) had a full morning Introduction with two very qualified (and interested) and experienced nurses. Lots of good practical information. This has been followed up by one on one meeting to discuss my progres and make suggestions how to improve with detailed explanations why.

I started at 240+lbs, I'm today at 219, my Cholesterol is still high, but I cut it in half, my blood pressure is way down, and my sugars are now non-diabetic. I feel great and continue to improve.

I hope someone who cares will read this (and yours) and do something about Wharton because I'm pissed too!

And yes, the Diabetic centre is covered by OHIP!

Topic: How long until you get an appointment to meet internist?

Hi everyone!

I'm new here and am looking forward to learning from each and every one of you. Here's my back story: I was referred in 2018 to the Humber River Hospital for bariatric surgery. After I attended the information session I decided to proceed with the surgery and I met with the surgeon (Dr. Hagen). However, after that I decided against the surgery (nothing to do with the doctor). I wanted to give it another try on my own. But I failed to do so, so in 2019 I asked to be re-referred since I was still within the year. In March 4th 2019 I met with the nurse, nutritionist and social worker. They all gave me the go. I was told that I would get a call for the internist office (Dr. Glazer) with an appointment date. It's been 4 months and I still haven't received a call. Now, don't get me wrong. I know there are many people waiting and that the process is long. My question is really out of curiosity, and a bit of wanting to make sure I wasn't forgotten since my case is a bit different (I had all my appointments dates already assigned on my first time). Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone has gone through the same thing, and if they did how long did it take for you to get a call?

Thanks in advanced!

Good morning gang! I hope everyone had a fun and enjoyable Canada Day. We enjoyed a parade, bbq with friends and neighbors followed by fireworks so a great day July 1st. Thankfully the rain has been patchy this week so I've been able to get out for walks everyday... tonight I have an appointment at a local gym with the fitness advisor so I'm both nervous and excited.

B - greek yogurt

S - boiled egg

L - chicken skewer, strawberries

S - 1/2 protein shake

D - homemade spring rolls

S - low fat SF bran muffin, cheese

Topic: RE: Hey all this is for the toronto western patients

Truthfully, it was SO quick when all was said and done. Registered at 8 a.m., had meetings with nurse and surgeon, went into surgery around 12:30- was back up in my room around 4. Anaesthic ALWAYS reacts weird with me and I have a VERY hard time waking up from it. So I was "awake" but would drift off again.. told my husband who was with me to go back to the hotel as I knew I would doze and wake a dozen times! I began drinking (out of medicine cups)- within a couple of hours and made a consistent effort to do so throughout the night. I had neither the wits nor desire to do anything except sleep and concentrate on drinking water when awake! I also started doing the deep breathing exercises they recommend (it's in the My Surgery binder they send you) by around 5 in the morning. At that point, nurse helped unhook me and I went to the bathroom (no issues peeing!)- then back and concentrating between breathing exercises (sitting on the side of the bed), dozing and drinking water and very diluted apple juice! Surgeon and team were in around 7 a.m., said everything went well etc. All in all, about three doctors were in and out - just quick visits. By mid-morning I was back and forth to the bathroom. Hear a lot of people complaining about gas, I was burping but only that! And no major discomfort. Your incisions are tender and stomach a bit achey simply because anything in your abdomen you feel. By noon was in a meeting with nurse who sent over what we should be doing (everyone who had been operated on either the same day or day before)- then we got our discharge papers and that was it! Outta there!

Didn't use ANYTHING i thought I would need! You wear double hospital gowns, are hooked up to an IV until they release you to get dressed and go to the meeting. I would recommend chapstick! Your lips get very dry!

any more questions, feel free to ask!

Good morning ,,, errr afternoon I guess. Yes last night was perfect,, sunny, warm and a slight breeze so my walk was wonderful. It's a pretty eventless week for me,, work, walks and still working away at some renovations. I did check out a gym on the weekend and the guy was super friendly and helpful,,, he gave me a full tour including a demo of the hydromassage chair. :) I could get used to that! The part I don't like is that he left a message for someone to call me, I didn't hear anything so called monday and left a voicemail for the lady he said to talk to and I still haven't heard back.

B - greek yogurt, strawberries

S - boiled egg

L - home made spring rolls

S - turkey pepperettes

D - chicken something

S - 1/2 protein shake
