Anyone on them?? I tried going off of mine (the generic similar to Lexapro) and I have been a wreck for over a week now (emotional, moody, etc) my OB said that I could take Wellbutrin - anyone have any feedback on this? Was anyone on it or something similar during pregnancy?

Thanks!

if you need it.. you need it.. i dont think your ob would have suggested it if it wasnt safe... being overly emotional/moody etc.. in the long run will cause you more harm... there are quite a few meds that are safe... check out safefetus.com

I was on something similar to Lexapro called Celexa or Citalopram the genric of it 40mg when we got pregnant with Gabriel and he had a cleft lip and palate it was the only medication I was on and stopped a after I found out I was pregnant I did alot of research none of it was from the FDA but I switched to Prozac when I was TTC this time and our daughter does not have a cleft lip/ palate or any other problems they can see on the level II u/s.

My doctor recommended Prozac or Wellbutrin those have the most clinical studies done all medicaitons have risks but my doctor said a medicated mother is better than a dead mother so i have been on Prozac 20mg this time around!

I hope this helps!

Celexa does not cause cleft lip/palate.  That is a genetic roll of the dice.  In other words, you and the father passed on the gene that caused it.

Actually it is more than genetics I did hours and hours of research here see on excerpt below and there was no clefts on either side of the family we also saw a gentic counsler regarding the condition and it was most likley caused by the medication.

Causes

There are many factors that hinder the joining up process of the lip or palate during a baby's development. If you have had a child with a cleft lip or palate, your chance of future children being affected is increased.

However, doctors can't reliably predict which pregnancies will be affected because cleft lip and palate is usually caused by a combination of genetic and other unknown factors. The unknown factors may include an illness during pregnancy or being exposed to certain substances such as tobacco smoke or certain medicines. (see Prevention).

I took Wellbutrin part way through my first trimester then stopped and started back up in my third.  I only did it because I really wanted to get off of them and thought it was a good time, boy was I wrong.  My doctor said that is usually safer for you to take them if you need them than not take them.  My daughter is perfectly healthy and I was so much happier when I had my meds.  I am still on them and breastfeed while on them.

Thanks so much!! I am sure that it is better to be a "steady" mommy to be then one who is a wreck! Thanks for sharing your story - makes me feel better about taking it! Have a call into the PCP already!

Liz, I am not positive about daily meds. But I can use Ativan prn. And I have during the last 2 pregnancies.

I know there are pregnancy safe meds. Definately go with what  your OB recommends. I am sure they see more "crazy" preggos than we know. LOL

I need a medication, but am putting it off. Quit taking mine awhile back and regret it. So I now use my Ativan occasionally when I am about to lose it.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Thanks Jo! I talked to the PCP and she is going to put me on the welburtin. I am using the xanax as needed but thats a big no for TTC and pregnancy so I have to get away from that one completely. I am hoping that this makes for a more stable me!

Thanks agian!
