Not a Good Doctor's Appointment.......

Hi ladies.....

I had my 36 week appointment today and it wasn't very good.  The doctor kept telling me not to worry they would keep an eye on me, but it is a bit troublesome.

When the nurse weighed me, I was up 4 pounds from last week........I have been constantly throwing up what I eat, so I wasn't sure how that happened.  My BP was 187/127, it has been low at all of my previous appointments.  When she pressed on my swollen legs, they would pit.  I have never been so swollen that I had pitting.....Then he had trouble finding the baby's heartbeat.........he found it and he said it was good, but that was scary.

He sends me to the Non-Stress Test room and they put me on a monitor.......the baby was not active at all.  I can't have anything sugary because of my diabetes, so I told her to get me ice cold water.....that normally makes her move.  But not today........her heart rate rose a couple times and the tech went to get the dr.  He came in and told me that even though she wasn't moving a lot, when she did move her heart rate was rising as expected.

So, since these things are just starting to happen he said that he would jus****ch me.  If I got headache or any hand and face swelling to call.  I see him next week, but I'm not sure how good of a week this will be......I'm going to be in huge worry until I get checked again next week.

So anyway, I just wanted to give the update......

sending lots of thoughts and prayers your way. I wouldn't be too surprised if they delivered you next week. If you ar worried callback and tell them you want to be seen sooner, monday or tuesday maybe. I am surprised they didn't want to do something about that BP

Lots of prayers! I am sorry that your visit was not so good. Can they deliver you now? If that would be safer for baby and you. Keep us posted and as scary as it is just try and stay as calm as you can so hopefully your BP doesn't get any higher. Hugs.

I'm surprised they didn't deliver you.  Sounds like pre eclampsia to me.  They delivered my cousin at 32 wks and 2 days b/c her BP reached 170/110.  They had her delivered 2 hours after that appt.  Keep a check on you BP at home if you can, call the dr if it stays that high!  I will certainly put you on my daily prayer list!

Oh my gosh that BP level is scary high!! I would insist to be seen sooner, daily, if I were in your position! Don't be afraid to demand what you want/need to feel at ease! It's YOUR baby and YOUR body! It sounds like preeclampsia symptoms to me. I will pray for you and baby. I'm sorry if I am scaring you, I just want you and baby to be ok!

Here is a list of symptoms:

Hypertension (blood pressure over 140/90)
Swelling or Edema
Proteinuria (protein in your urine)
Sudden weight gain (+2 lbs in a week or +6 lbs in a month)
Headache
Nausea or vomiting
Changes in vision
Racing paulse, mental confusion, anxiety, loss of breath
Stomach or right shoulder pain
Lower back pain
Hyperreflexia (very strong reflexes)

Your BP is scary high... are you on any meds to help control it? I can't believe that they're taking such a laid back attitude with this... I had Pre-Eclampsia and also HELLP syndrome with my 1st PG and as soon as I showed an increase in BP my dr. was all over it with medications, that was at 28 weeks. My BP never got as high as yours but did get to 150/110 with my meds and it was an all out fire drill at the dr. office with that reading. I was admitted to the hospital for monitoring and ultimately ended up delivering at 35 weeks. I had no other symptoms other than high BP and slight swelling but I was a very sick person and we almost lost the both of us. I don't mean to scare you but I really think that this wait and see approach can be harmful. The week before I delivered I was throwing up everything I ate but my BP was stable so they were just trying to get me as far along as they could, but I was also in the hospital being monitored and getting IV fluids and nutrition. My Pre-E turned into HELLP syndrome in a matter of hours, I went from being relatively stable to not sure that I would make it- it was that fast- but I was being monitored constantly. Had I been sent home to wait it out, I probably would not be here today. My blood platelets tanked to below 20,000 and my kidneys and liver started to fail. I had an emergency c-section under general anestesia because my blood was not clotting with the platelets that low. You absolutely cannot mess around with this, things change so fast with this disease.

36 weeks is a great place to be. Don't wait unitl next week to check... if you want more information please go to www.preeclampsia.org and check out the forums. Though if you do I'm sure that you will agree that your dr. needs to be doing much more than wait and see...

Wow.. that is really high.  I would think that you would be a good candidate for delivery.  With a BP that high you are at a very high risk for a stroke.  I would have a discussion with your doctor.  After I had my daughter in May, I had to be re-hospitalized for 4 days due to high BP.  It was similar to yours.  Your bottom number is high than mine was.  The highest mine was was 105 on bottom... that is the most important number.

Did they do any blood or urine work?  If you're kicking off any proteins in your urine or if your bloodwork comes back with bad liver function.. I think you should demand delivery.  Pre-eclampsia or worse eclampsia is nothing to mess with.  You can die and so can your baby.

Praying for you.

hugs
