I am SCARED TO DEATH to gain too much weight.  With my first son I gained 100lbs!!!  2nd son about 75, lost some then gained a whole ton more.  I know my eating habits are drastically different now, but I am 11 weeks pg and have gained too much already.  Not sure exactly how much but I do know that since the 1st, I have gained 8lbs!!!  I am eating small frequent meals during the day...salads, nuts, dried fruits, greek yogurt with wheat bran and granola.  Dinner is my "meal" of the day because it's with the family.
Any tips out there??  I talk about this with my friends and they all say "you're pregnany you have to give yourself some weight gain" or " it's ok, you'll lose it when the baby's born"  It's this in between time where I am gaining that's REALLY reaking havoc on my head.  A gain is a gain, no matter the reason!
Any tips?

I delivered 6 weeks early a 5lb 15oz lil boy:)  After spending 2 months on bed rest in the hospital and Mason spending 11 days in the NICU, we're both home and doing great!  Mason is getting bigger and gaining weight like he should.  Now it's my turn to lose this weight!  It's tough to get back on the band wagon...I CAN do this!

I have a problem too so you are NOT alone! SInce my surgery 2 years ago I ended up having an eating disorder and now that I am pregnant things have not gotten any better..I am SO afraid of eating anything in fear of gaining any weight.

They recommend only a 4 lb weight gain for the first trimester. Maybe you need to eat more filling meals, with less calories. Nuts and dried fruits have a lot of calories in them, most have additional sugar. Also, look at the fat content you are getting . Try more lean ground beef, chicken, turkey and my fave is lowfat cottage cheese, very filling and has protien. Maybe cut back on your dinner portion as well? I know its hard to restrict yourself when your entire family is sitting there talking and having 2nds. Also, try and drink more water, helps with a full feeling. I am going through the same thing you are. I am 9 weeks and gained 4 lbs. Today I had to wear my 1st pair of maternity pants. Also, keep in mind that you could also possibly be bloated. I know this is hard, we finally have a valid reason to eat a lot but it can easily spiral out of control with us. Good luck!

You know I was the same way about gaining weight!! here I am 5 months and have not gained a pound yet. So best of luck to you. Some of us do not gain any weight during pregnancy. Not sure if you will after your surgery but so far I  have not and baby is growing fine.

I am the same way. I have gained about 17lbs, I am afraid that I will go crazy as soon as I have this baby and try to make up for the gain! I said something to my doc, and he was not at all worried about my weight. He said that every women is different.

Thanks ladies.  I have cut down on the nuts and dried fruit for that very reason:)  Mainly over the last 3-4 days or so.  I drink coffee or chai tea in the AM, but other than that I drink about 3-4 32oz bottles of water a day.  I know it needs to be more too:)  I do tend to bloat a lot during pg, so I have to give myself that too.
I wonder if I may have an eating disorder sometimes.  Even when I was down to 164lbs I still felt HUGE!  now back up to a whopping 190 I feel like a well, I feel like crap:(  NOT so good.  I mean I eat just fine pg or not.  I needed to get a fill when I found out I was pg, so obviously that was put on hold, so I am more open than I should be.  At dinner, I try to listen to the signals.  They're harder to listen to since I don't eat many "meals" during the day.  I try to eat/make high protein foods, and don't eat much beef.  Mostly pork and chicken.   With work, I just don't seem to be able to get an actual meal in most the time.
I have always enjoyed being pg, but I never cared how much I weighed during pg either, this time I care a little over the top maybe.  I sure wish I was one of those ladies who don't gain, b ut afraid I am......

I am almost 15 months post op RNY and lost 215 lbs, exceeding my goal weight.  I actually had gotten "too thin" and forced myself to gain 5lbs.  About a month ago, I found out that I am pregnant (about 9 weeks).  I am experiencing similar fears about weight gain.  I have gained 6 lbs this month and until today hadn't experienced any morning sickness.  I was hungry all the time, listened to my body and ate mostly healthy every two hours.

I have at the recommendation of my OB increased my intake of complex carbs which I had limited dramatically.  Luckily I haven't had any major issues since very early on (B12).  I have increased my milk intake something I had stayed away from due to the caloric content, but now I am doing 1 - 2% milk 3-4X per day.

I just feel like I need to be very very careful to not get myself on a slippery slope of weight gain.  I have had M/S all day today and the only thing that hasn't made me gag is yogurt and SF Ice Cream :(
