One of the main reasons I had WLS was so that I could have a healthy pregnancy.  My husband and I plan to start trying at the begining of 2012.  Is there any tips or advise anyone would like to share with me about being pregnant after WLS.  This will be my first pregnancy so I have nothing to go off of...Any comments, thoughts, or suggestions would be great!!
Thanks ahead of time!! :)

Hi Wendy!  Congrats on having your WLS last month.  Many of us here had future pregnancy as being a major contributing factor in us having our WLS - certainly myself included.  To answer your question... I would just say focus this year on getting yourself healthy.  The first 9 months post op is what is called "the honeymoon phase."  This is when you'll lose most of the excess weight.  Take advantage of this time.  Make sure that you follow your bari surgeon's orders as it relates to exercise, vitamins, and diet.  Most surgeons suggest waiting 18-24 months post op before TTC (trying to conceive.)  But each person is different.  My surgeon gave me the green light 15 mos post op because I dropped most of my weight in the first 12 mos and I'm 40 yrs old.  I'd suggest talking to your surgeon about it at your 8 mo checkup to get his/her recommendation for you at that time.  They want to see that you're successful in your weightloss before getting pregnant.  Make sure that you're using good birth control.  And btw... the pill is not good birth control for RNY because of the malabsorption issues.  Many women on this board have become pg while on birth control.  So I would suggest you also talk to your OB about that.

Good luck to you and welcome to the loser's bench!

TRY NOT TO GET PREGGERS!!!.... before your weight has stabilized (the suggested 12-18mos) LOL  I am one of the women who got pregnant on the pill, and I was 6 months out.  Thankfully, the pregnancy is going well, but not without sleepless nights and worry for my little one's health.  I feel like the first trimester was ten times harder than it should have been had I not still been struggling to eat 600 calories a day from my RNY.

Congrats on changing your life with WLS and good luck when it comes time to conceive! :)

Welcome Wendy...lots of women on this board had/are having WLS with future healthy pregnancies as the biggiest motivator.
I myself am just about 8 months post op and have been coming to this board since day 1 to "lurk". I have already learned so much from these ladies...I can't to come out of the shadows and share my BFP (big fat positive) when the time is right. Hubby and I are so excited to start a family...we have been together for 7 years and wanted kids together from very early on, so I am literally counting down the days till we can TTC.
This board is great.....ask questions/share stories/***** and whine...whatever it may be you'll get feedback here.
Good luck & congrats on your surgery

Welcome to the board,

one blog written by Andrea U (who is well known on OH), is this one - which has good info on pregnancy post WLS - it has helped me a lot, especially with all the suggested bloods etc. - this is a direct link to the pregnancy info.
