New to OH and found out today I am having identical twins
So I have been reading posts from everyone and decided to share my story... January 09 had gastric bypass. I had PCOS and a few months after surgery I was regular for the first time. I could not get pregnant before surgery. The reason why (in addition to wanting to loose weight) I opted for the gastric bypass was to get rid of the PCOS. I was sick of taking drugs. I started at 270 and got down to 110. Fast forward 2 years or so. I got married on February 3, 2011. Got pregnant around March 3rd or so with no assistance. I am in the "high risk" category because I will be 36 when the babies are born.
Last week I had a bad UTI that ended up going into my kidneys as well as a kidney stone. I make kidney stones to begin with so that is no surprise that I have another one. They admitted me to the hospital so that I could get IV antibiotics for 48 hours. Last year I had a 14mm. Anyways, while they were doing an ultrasound on my kidney last week, the tech said "Is there something you are not telling me?" My husband and I looked at each other and were like "no". She said, "how many babies did you say you were having?" I said, "1". She said, "oh no you are having 2". My husband and I were shocked but then thrilled. Twins don't run in either one of our families. When I was being discharged from the hospital the doctor said he thought the pregnancy was identical. It looked like a thin membrane. I had already scheduled a scan for today. The doctor confirmed that we are indeed having 2 babies. We have 2 sacs and 1 placenta. We don't want to know the sex of the twins but obviously they are the same sex.
My question is, has anyone else experienced this after Gastric Bypass??
Thanks!
Rochelle

That's a heck of a surprise when doing a kidney u/s! Double congrats to you and your husband!
There are several women here who are moms of multiples...hopefully they'll pop in and give you the scoop...but I'm sure you'll be fine.
I hope the rest of your pregnancy is happy, healthy - including kidney-stone-free! Best wishes and welcome.

I had my twins post WLS. The pregnancy went fine, I had no complications and went into labor naturally at 36 weeks. My boys were 6lbs 11 oz and 5lbs 11 oz. I didn't even have a C-section. I read a great book: "When You're expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads." If you google it you'll see it. It was a great resource for the pregnancy. I made sure they checked my blood levels often. I did get slightly anemic at the end of the pregnancy, which is normal for post WLS and very normal for multiples, so I had to take some extra iron. I had to eat more often throughout the third trimester too to keep my blood sugar even, as a post WLS patient we get hypoglycemic really easily. Well, let me know if you have any other questions! My boys were born 13 months ago now. I can give you some great advce- SLEEP NOW!! The first 9 months I was soooo sleep deprived! Even following all the advice on sleep training blah blah blah... Still sleep deprived, so keep that in mind.
