When Do You Start Registering?
| We plan on haveing a huge shower. Yes I said WE!!! Is this wrong? DH & I figure that we will rent the Hall as then no one will have to clean their house, or try to fit everyone (50-60 ppl) into their house if it starts to rain. My Mom said why are you doing your own shower, I said I am not, just supplying the venue and the date. I told her she can be the hostess or a couple of my close girlfriends are up for the task. Is this wrong? This is probably going to be my only shower and I have stated that I don't want any surprise ones. That is why it is going to be a Biggie, Family, Friends and Co-Workers all in one. Potluck & everything... Sorta simple. Anyway, when is it a good time to start registering. It isn't like I need a lot of things as I have most of it. I need only a couple of big ticket items (swing, highchair, breast pump) and other things like clothes, diapers, wipes, misc items, etc. I want to make it simple for others as well. Any advice would be good and anything else you may think I may need or may not be able to live without. This is my first baby so at a loss!!! I have now.... (babysat, so I collected most of my stuff to use with daycare) and it is in great condition. Crib, bassinet, infant carseat, stroller, dresser, change table, jumperoo, exersaucer, playmat with hanging toys, larger carseat (have to check expiry on that one), bottles (new unopened, just bought -were on sale),winnie the pooh mobile(going winne the pooh theme in nursery), I know I have more but my brain is exhausted....I NEED MY NAP!!!! Thanks for the advice. |

It doesn't matter when you register. After all, no one will know when you registered or even that you ARE registered anywhere until the shower invites go out or they ask you directly.
Just as a tip, I may my registry using myregistry.com instead of specific stores - that way, people can buy the gifts online or in whatever store they want and check it off the registry instead of having to shop at just one or two specific stores.
I am involved in the planning of my shower - I'm helping with food, buying the plates and stuff, picked the date/time...as long as you have someone willing to play hostess and be the POC on the actual invitations for you, I don't see a problem.

There's no "right" or "proper" way to do it. This is YOUR baby! We're not going to register for another couple of months. We want to find out the sex of the baby first (around 2/13) and then we're planning on moving in late March. I'm not due until July 8th and my baby shower (being thrown by my mom,SIL, and bestie) will be on May 20th. So we'll register sometime in April once we moved into the new house and we know how big the baby room will be.
