With both post op babies I took only one prenatal but did have to supplement iron due to anemia that was pre-existing and got worse with pregnancy

I had my first baby at 4 years post op and my 2nd most recently at almost 10 yrs post op RNY. I took prenatal with DHA, iron due to anemia and that was fine. I was told to increase calorie intake by about 300. I tried to stick to a proteins and fruits and veggies with lots of water and minimize my carb intake and sugars. Foods with folic acid are also recommended. Otherwise didn't do anything special. My son was born at 37 weeks and weighed 6 lbs 7 oz and my daughter was born at 39 weeks and weighed 7 lbs 13 oz. I had no major complications with either pregnancy.

Topic: Looking for info, experience

Hi!  I'm new here.  My name is Sara and I'm a homeschooling mom of seven children.  I was hoping to get some info on the surgery my doctor is recommending and the possibility of pregnancy after it.

I've had 2 incarcerated ventral hernia repairs- the first was probably incisional from a gallbladder removal, then it came back- ironically not after pregnancy :) .  Now I have two new hernias.  The last time I was in they told me the only way I would stop getting hernias is to get a pannectomy w/ an abdomectomy (sp?)  I

I have lost 30-35 lbs but have about 60 to go.  I'm on a couple of medications for other health issues that cause weight gain (one is how I gained 70 lbs of my weight gain in the first place before I even knew it- I know, how stupid could I have been?  I was so preoccupied with the diagnosis.... )and I have hypothyroidism, so it's tricky.

We do not morally and religiously believe in any form of birth control other then natural family planning (not rhythm), but that aside, I really, really want to have more children.  But my husband's concerned about the two new hernias and wants me to get them checked out.  The doctors already told me if I have any more I would have to get the surgeries with the really long names and that would mean absolutely no more children...but i have found doctors are very biased once you start having more then 3 (not just my experience, even my friends.  Even my DH has been told that a health problem was because of the depression of having so many kids....I don't have the option, due to finances, to see someone other then who my insurance will approve.

Any info, experience, would be greatly appreciated (other then the "I already have a lot of kids variety :) )

Thanks,
Sara

Hi!
I have not been here much but I remember your wonderful story of finally becoming pregnant. Sorry you had a hard time during the infant stage. I had my first baby then got pregnant 6 months later. And it is hard, needless to say two weeks after Valentina was born my husband got a vasectomy. It does put stress on your relationship or it did for us, luckily we make it a point to talk about EVERYTHING, which is new for me since I typically keep things from significant others. I am luck to have such a good husband and I think I try so hard to make him happy because he does that for me.

Glad to hear the scare got sorted out but you might want to see now that you are not breast feeding what type of birth control you will get on now.

It is not any of my business, and I dont want to come off sounding like old mother hubbard but babies are the best miracles that can turn into huge issues in relationships. I even have a lesbian couple friend who came to me the other day in tears because the dynamic of their relationship changed so much.

Good luck!

I am just beginning to try to get pregnant, but I have been trying to prepare as best I can.  I am 4 years out from a successful gastric bypass, so I know I'm in the clear as far as time passing after surgery, but I have been searching for some clear guidlines for nutritional needs/issues for post gastric bypass patients who are pregnant.  Do we absorb nutrients differently?  Should I try to get in more veggies?  What supplements should I take?  I want to eat as healthily as I can but I'm not sure what I need to focus on for me and a baby.

I have had 2 babies post op. I only took one prenatal a day. My OB did have me increase my calcium from 1 a day to 2. She said "you are building lots of bones in there". I still took my B12 as usual. She also took labs to check levels but mine were great!

Do you just take one prenatal a day or two?

What is your vitamin regimen?
