With my first post op pregnancy I was down 25 pounds from pre pregnancy weight when I delivered. With my second post op pregnancy I lost 21 pounds in the first part of my pregnancy and gained back 36 for a total net gain of 11 pounds. I am now 9 days post partum and have lost those 11 pounds plus 10 more. Try not to worry about the weight gain. It will come back off :)

Congratulations!!!  So glad that it finally happened, the fact that it was without intervention is amazing.

Topic: RE: Pregnant after bypass HELP DESPERATE

I will be 20 weeks on Tuesday (first child, got pregnant 7 months post RNY without trying--definitely a surprise). I had zero nausea or fatigue or anything for 7 weeks. Then all of a sudden BAM sick as a dog. That's actually when we found out I was pregnant.  Then week 7 til 18 I had constant severe nausea with just about everything I ate. The only 2 things I could eat without feeling like I was going to die were Cheez-it crackers (something I thought I would NEVER eat after surgery) and string cheese. Dietician and surgeon and OB all said to eat whatever I could that worked. I was only able to get in about 800-900 calories most days---some days were less because it was so awful. I did try to drink V8 and milk and still tried my protein shakes (although those made it worse) but it was very rough. Now, at 18 weeks it has gotten much better. Now, I really only get nauseated with my afternoon snack/evening meal for whatever reason and it's no where near as intense as before. I did start taking doxylamine and B6 at night though (comes as an RX only for pregnancy nausea but I just got the OTC dose and "made" the closest dose I could because my insurance didn't cover the RX). So, I'm not sure if that helped or if I was just ready to be over it.  Anyways, I hope it gets better for you---but just think...at the end of it all you probably won't even remember the bad nausea and you will have God's greatest gift!

Topic: RE: Weight Gain During Pregnancy

Well, I can't say how much I gained during my entire pregnancy because I will be 20 weeks on Tuesday. :) BUT, I was told by my surgeon that I should not gain more than 10-15 pounds during the entire pregnancy and my OB agreed. I found out I was pregnant at 7 weeks (not trying, using 2 forms of BC, totally unexpected and only 7 months post-op)....but from 7 weeks til 18 weeks I had horrendous constant nausea. I didn't know if it was my RNY or the baby causing problems but I seriously had a hard time eating anything even though I was constantly hungry. I also had low blood sugar quite often so I really had to eat a little bit ALL day long just to survive and still felt miserable. So, I actually lost 8 pounds in those weeks. Thankfully now that nausea has stopped and I can eat again.  I'm sure I will start gaining weight because the cravings are horrendous.  :)  I think as long as you are eating healthy foods as much as possible, making sure to get in your required daily protein and vitamins and staying as active as we can with your growing belly some weight gain is expected. If you think it's to much though might need to modify a little bit. I was told 1400 calories per day (per baby I was at 900) was my max...so maybe a little modification? Are you still seeing a dietician?  Discuss with your OB....or maybe try to up the exercise a little bit
