Should I get the flu shot before having surgery? Shot on Nov.7th and surgery, hopefully first of Dec. Also, is it ok to get the flu shot if you have

 a cold? Thanks !!

I got my flue shot before the surgery. I figure one less issue to worry about, right? No, don't get the shot if you have a cold.

best to ask your surgeon but you should have it at least 2 weeks before surgery

I'd ask your surgeon/doctor to be sure!

It is okay to get the flu shot when you have a cold unless you have a fever.

Get your flu shot now. Flu likes to hang out in hospitals, and you don't want to either pick it up while there or unknowingly bring it in and infect others. Also, if you do get the flu and have it when your surgery is scheduled, your surgery will be postponed.

The hospital where I had my surgery won't even admit people for elective surgery unless they can prove their flu vaccine is current.
