Week 27 Post-Op Update

Aug 18, 2011

No complaints here! Another great week of steady weight loss. The scale now says 268 Lbs most of the time but it does fluctuate up one or two lbs depending on my fluid & sodium intake. With the peak summer heat here in AZ it depends greatly on if I've been working outside in the heat or not. But hey.. I'm OK with a 1-2 lb fluctuation now. It used to drive me nuts but I have the faith that the process is working and I refuse to make it a big deal. My clothes are getting too loose again, my body is restless and wants me to get up and go, go, go all the time. I'm even having a bit of trouble sleeping more than 4 hours at a pass now! Guess I'm too spooled up with energy so next week I stop talking about going back to the gym and I actually get myself in there! Pics to follow!

Week 26 (6 Months) Post-Op Update

Aug 11, 2011

Well here I am, 6 months post-op & down to 270 Lbs! Wow what a ride it's been too. Seems like only yesterday I was a super morbidly obese cardiac patient sitting in the hospital fending off dirty looks and sneers from skinny people that were repulsed by the sheer sight of me. Anyway, I'm super thankful for my VSG and the new lease on life the weight loss has given me. Just this last weekend I flew in an airplane and not only didn't need a belt extension, but I also had about 8 inches of seat belt to spare! I'm about 45 Lbs from my goal now and it's looking like this is really going to happen!
Thanks again for all the well wishes, encouragement, and support during this past 6 months.
Hugs to you all... Craig

Week 25 Post-Op Update

Aug 04, 2011

Wholly Shnikes what a week!
The scale says I weight 272 Lbs now! That makes 12 lbs of weight loss for the month of July! I am so close to 270 now I can't hardly believe it. The significance of 270 is this.. Back in 2005 I tried to get qualified for bariatric surgery and after about 6 months, dozens of tests, and thousands of dollars spent while being jerked around at the Mayo Clinic, the FUCKERS finally told me that our insurance had an exclusion preventing me from coverage for WLS! Would have been some good info to have early on don't ya think ASSHOLES? I was so pissed so in 2006 I went on the Medifast Diet and lost 110 Lbs. I got all the way down to 270 lbs and then.. the economy tanked and my toy store went bankrupt. But worse yet, my Mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Mom and my store both passed away in early 2007 and the rest is just a 4 year blur of eating everything and anything! Getting my life back in 2011 thanks to Dr Fang, Aetna PPO, & my VSG WLS are the single best thing I have done for myself in many, many years. I plan to take some recent pics and post them here and in the VSG forum within the next week or so. My 6 month surgiversary is next week on August 10th. I'll definitely get the pics up on or before then.
Thanks again OH friends!... Craig
8/5/11 - PS: Next morning (today) scale says 271!!!

Week 24 Post-Op Update

Jul 28, 2011

Scale says 276 today but I expect to see 275 within the next two days. I'm happy to report that I'm still loosing weight, about 2-3 lbs a week on average now. I know it sounds kinda slow but some times the loss jumps to 3-4 lbs a week. But the average is about 2-3 lbs. Anyway, as much as I wish it were moving faster I really can't complain about the results. I feel so much healthier than I even expected. It's like I turned back time by 16 years! The only thing that sux are all of the aches and pains I have in my shoulder, back, knee, & hip from all the years of being in the super morbid category. The breaking news for this week though has to do with employment (I've been self employed for 12 years). It looks like I may be going back to work doing a somewhat physical job soon. If all goes well I'll be working for an oil company in New Mexico as part of a drilling team! So I'm really glad I had this VSG surgery! Without it I couldn't even have begun to consider a job like this!
Keep up the good fight OH friends!
Craig

UPDATE:
I did hit 275 the next morning and now have just 50 Lbs to go!! WOO HOO!

Week 22 Post-Op Update

Jul 14, 2011

Well it's been another fantastic VSG post-op week for me. I'm down another 2 Lbs and I'm almost in the 270's! Today I weighed in @ 280! I continue to stay active and now when I go for a bike ride (about 3-4X per week) it's for quite long distances, (like 8-10 miles)! Last eve I rode my bike so much that I came home with 2 flat tires! So I ordered up 2 new heavy duty, self sealing inner tubes and I'll be back on the road again in a few days. It's awesome to actually be posting this boring stuff about bikes and flat tires when I stop & think about it.  This time last year I was so obese (406 Lbs!!!) and so unhealthy and days like today just remind me of exactly how far I've come in such a short period of time. I am truly grateful!

Thanks again for supporting me in my weight loss journey my OH friends!

Week 21 Post-Op Update

Jul 07, 2011

Well here I am! Week 21 Post-Op,
I didn't make one of these posts last week because I needed to fix the Post-Op weekly count. I was off by one week and wanted to make the correction after Mindy pointed it out to me {Thanks Mindy (bigmetfan38)}.

This week has been really good for me! I'm currently banging on the door of the 70's! ..and weigh 282 - 283 depending on the time of day I weigh-in. My quality of life has improved so much since dropping out of the 300's. Now I'm very active. I walk as far as I want, I run, I ride bikes, I work hard for hours, & I pretty much do anything I want to without feeling tired, weak, or winded. It's truly fantastic to live unencumbered by morbid obesity!

OK, now the good news/bad news report:
Good News.. I'm shrinking! ..and I'm wearing all the "small clothes" I had socked away in the closet.
Bad News.. I'm currently wearing the smallest jeans that I had in my collection of pants left in the closet from failed diets gone by, so I'm now buying the next smaller sized jeans off the web (used) so I have pants to wear that don't have to be hiked up every 2 minutes!!!

Thanks for all the support OH friends! It really does make a big difference in my journey!

Really Enjoyed the Bridges Meetings Tonight!

Jul 05, 2011

I just got back from the Bridges WLS support meetings tonight (1st Tues each month) and I truly had a great time! The people there are really fun to spend time with and we all seem to draw strength from each other, very much like we do here on the OH. Anyone that's on the fence about attending these weight loss support meetings please take it from me, it's well worth the hour or two of your time to attend once a month. It's good for the heart and mind.
Craig

Oh... PS:
Despite there being larger and armless chairs in the meeting room, I sat in a normal sized arm chair all during the two hours.
Know why?... 'Cause I can!... LOL!!!!

Happy Independance Day America!

Jul 04, 2011

It's been a great holiday weekend for me. I ate some BBQ'd chicken sausages & young pecans, went on several bike rides, kept my cravings at bay despite my head hunger screaming at me, took the baby to see the fireworks tonight, & I'm loosing weight again! All in all, no complaints!... Craig

OMG!!! I'm in a Weight Loss Cycle.. BIG TIME!!!

Jun 25, 2011

Today the scale shocked me! ..Yes SHOCKED ME! All day it has stayed steady at 285 Lbs! That means this week has been a banner week for breaking the mini-stall & going into a major weight loss cycle. So since it's the end of the day, and the scale doesn't lie, I'm Claiming It!!!! Oh.. and my freaking BMI is now just below 40 now too, 39.8.. YES FINALLY!!! According to the BMI calculator I'm "Obese 30.0 - 39.9". That's a BIG improvement over Super, Grossly, (insert more adjectives here), Morbidly, Obese.. LOL
More to come!... Craig
