I went to Curves for the first time today. After watching them on Wed. when I was there I really didn't think that it looked like you'd get much of a workout, but I tell you I sweat! Whenever they had you stop and check your heart rate mine was over what it was supposed to be so I KNOW I was getting a workout. I just have commit to going at least 3 x's a week. I think this is going to really jumpstart my wieghtloss. It seems to be coming off so slow.
I booked our 2nd annual "girlfriend getaway" trip today. Last year we spent 4 days in Jamaica. This year we have decided to try something different and we are going to spend 5 days in Cozumel at the El Cozumeleno Resort. It's a 4 star all inclusive. I love snorkeling and this place is one where you can snorkel right from the beach. I'm so excited. It's so nice to getaway for a few days, sit on the beach and sip margaritas, have a spa treatment or two and do absolutely NOTHING if I want to. Just curl up with a good book and enjoy the ocean breeze. Feb. can come soon enough. Plus I'll be much thinner then!

Well slowly it's coming off. I am down to 258 as of today. I have an appointment at Curves to check it out and I think I am going to join it. My Dr. gave me the go ahead and I need to do more exercise. I went golfing yesterday with my 8 year old and one of his friends. I didn't do to bad. I can't wait until next summer. I really want to join golf league again. It's a lot of fun and good exercise.

I had my first post-op appointment yesterday. The Dr. said that I was a model patient. I have lost 26 pds and I have not had any complications. I have had no problem getting my protein or water in from day one. He said I should be very thankful that a lot of patients come in looking and feeling terrible their first post-op apt. He said I could join Curves next week. He wants me to exercise at least 3 days a week and get my heart rate between 110-130 for at least 20 minutes. I haven't been exercising much except for the occasional stroll down to my mom's and back which is less than a 1/4 mile away. I know I need to step it up in that department buy my feet hurt so darn bad after being on them for more than 10 minutes. I also asked the doc how it could be that I almost ate 8 oz of chili from Wendys' and he said that most of the chili was probably liquid and that I was probably chewing it up real well so it passed thru quickly. He said not to worry about it. He'd have been worried if I came in and told him I was able to eat an entire cheeseburger but the chili was fine. He showed me an x-ray of my pouch. I asked them right before surgery to make it as small as they could and he said mine was on the small side. It was smaller than a golf ball. He said to keep up the good work and he'd see me in about a month.

Things have been going well so far. Last night was my brothers b-day party at my parents house and they grilled a prime rib. It smell so good. I had a couple tiny tiny bites of it and a spoonful of mashed potatoes and gravy. It's so nice to be able eat some REAL food. Today I had some tuna on soy crisps for breakfast and some cottage cheese for lunch. I picked up a salmon filet and plan on having some grilled salmon tonight. I still am choking down 2 protein shakes a day but I tell ya it's getting harder and harder. I haven't been exercising much and I know I need to start more of that. I am going to ask my Dr. at my appt. next Wed. when I can start doing more physical stuff other than walking. I am going to check out CURVES. I think that would be ideal for me. 3 days a week and 30 mins a day. I work 30 miles from home and Curves is just 2 min from my work and is something that I could do on my lunch break. Sep-May I work 5 days a week and it's hard to get exercise in when I am gone by 7am and home at 6pm. By the time I get home, cook dinner, clean up, get the kids ready for bed and in bed it's 10pm. I don't like to exercise to late cuz then I can get to sleep and I am NOT a morning person so I have a very hard time getting my butt outa bed at 5am to go exercise.

I talked to my nut yesterday and she has given me the go ahead to start on pureed food. Thank GOD! I had a soft boiled egg for lunch yesterday and that seemed to go just fine. I'm down 25 pds now. If I went to go try to qualify for surgery right now I wouldn't even qualify. My BMI is under 40 now. Hard to imagine that has all happened in less than 1 month.

The Carb Countdown really made a difference. I can tolerate the protein shakes now but I am getting really sick of them. I cheated this weekend off of the liquid diet. We were at the mall food court and my husband was having a big juicy Steak Escape and my son was eating Subway and there I was with nothing. Taco Johns was right there so I went and tried the refried beans w/cheese that everyone raves about post-op. I only ate a few small bites but boy was it like heaven! After not having solid food for over 3 weeks it tasted so good and the funny thing is, is that I don't even LIKE refried beans! We went to a wedding Sat. night and I had a couple small bites of mashed potatoes and gravy. That was better yet. My stomach felt fine and I wish I could have had more but I didn't want to chance it. Some programs let you out of the hospital on a pureed diet. The one that I am with has you on full liquids for 14 days pre-op and then 4 weeks post-op. I am so sick of protein shakes that I could spit! I am getting burnt out on them big time. . . I have lost 20 pds to date and I can see a difference. I wore a shirt to the wedding this weekend that I hadn't been able to wear in a long time. Everyone kept asking me "HOW ARE YOU DOING?" I just smiled and said fine. It's nice people are concerned but after about the 30th person asking it was getting old. I was ready to go home by 8:30pm. I don't want to over do it. I start back to work tomorrow. I don't know what I am going to do about help with the kids next week. My daycare lady is in Vegas for the week so I have a niece coming over to baby sit during the day but I don't have anyone to help me out for the nights and my days off. I feel like I wouldn't have a problem lifting my son who is 23 pds but I don't want to take the chance of messing something up inside. I do have my 8 yr old who I guess will have to help me out. The problem is going to be making him get out of bed at 6am when the baby wakes up so that he can pick him up out of the crib. He is tough to get up in the mornings. . . Oh well it's just for a few days until my DH gets back from working out of town.

I'm 5 days post-op. Home and resting. Things are going okay. I have an infection in one of my incision sites and the CIB is not agreeing with me so I am trying to be creative getting in all my protein. Actually I think it's the milk that is not agreeing. My sis-in-law was going to pick me up some Carb Countdown milk today to give that a try. I've been walking a little more each day and I haven't taken my pain meds for a couple of days now. I don't feel like I'm having much pain, just uncomfortable sometimes. I go back to work next Monday. I'm a little nervous about that. I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it thru a whole day without a nap. I may have to go sit in my car and nap on my lunch break! So far, no regrets. My family and friends have all be so helpful and supportive. I am fortunate to have them all.

I am still in the hospital but my get to go home today. I have been feeling extremely well and getting plenty of fluids. I look like a human pin cushion they had a hard time finding a vein to get an IVgoing. I have 5 different spots where I am black and blue from them trying. Dr. Lenz said surgery went really well and my liver was very small so I must have done the liquid diet right. Now I am just dealing with a lot of gas but other than that hardly any pain today. I'll update more when I get home.

I was tucking my 8 year old in bed last night and he started crying. I asked him what was wrong. He asked, “Mom where will you be when I get to heaven?” I said, “I’ll be right at heavens gate waiting for you.” He continued to cry for awhile then said, “But what if I can’t find you?” I don’t know where this came from or what made him think about this. I haven’t said anything about the risks of this surgery for fear I’d scare him so I don’t know why he is thinking this. It kind of freaked me out.

I did the nasty bowl cleanse. It was horrible tasting so I added some Crystal Light Lemonade to it. It still was bad but I sucked down with a straw so that I couldn’t taste it much. I’m on a clear liquid diet today so no protein shakes. I’ve been drinking a lot of water, crystal light, Aveda tea and some broth. Tomorrow is the day. My surgery is at 9:30am and I have to be at the hospital at 7:30am. So the next time you hear from me I’ll be a big loser. I still have to pack a bag and get the house in order then I think I’m set. Gotta run. I think that bowel prep is kicking in already!

I just got back from having a massage. I heard that massage was good to get pre-op for relaxation, lymphatic drainage which boosts your immune system and also circulation to help prevent blood clots. Anything to help I'm all for, especially if it involves massage. It was wonderful. I even caught myself dosing off once or twice so it must have been very relaxing. My only complaint was that the room was a bit cold, other than that shear bliss.

We went camping over the weekend. My son had a ATV race so we camped nearby. He took a 4th in the final and that was really good considering there were about 20 kids and he was racing against some kids that were 14. He's only 8 so I think he did real well considering. The kids had a blast camping. Went swimming in the pool, down the waterslide, and then we went tubing down the river nearby. The weather was HOT HOT HOT. 96 degrees all weekend. We borrowed my brother's camper and I was glad the camper had a/c or we'd have died!

The liquid diet is going great. I still have been faithful. Very hard during the camping trip as there is always such good food. Steaks, burgers, brats, chips, roasted marshmallows etc. I was a good girl though and drank my CIB w/added protein. My mom even did it with me all weekend so I wouldn't feel like I was the only one missing out. I told her she didn't have to but she said she was wanting to lose 5 more pds before she sees her Dr. in Aug. so she was going to anyways. Only 2 more days to go. . .
