Too Many Gulps!

Mar 12, 2016

I suppose it's bound to happen.  There's a moment when you just totally forget your stomach is so small and you're thirsty.  You just take a few good, solid drinks of water and then you go, OH NO.  My pouch is so full, it feels like there's still water in my throat sloshing around waiting to go down, and it kinda hurts.  Fortunately, it didn't come back up.  Whew!

First Post Op 10 Lbs. Gone!

Mar 11, 2016

These first 10 days after surgery have been kinda rough.  I ended up back in the hospital very early on Weds. AM with lots of blood in my bowel movement.  Scared me good! But, after keeping e in hosp. overnight all my blood levels looked good and they let me go home yesterday.

So, I'm home from the hosp and after they pumped me full of fluids, I felt like Oh... I won't show any weight loss for another week or so - and my Dr. agreed.  This morning I wake up from a really good night's sleep - (first time I've slept really well since surgery), look in the mirror and say to myself, gee... my face looks a little thinner.   No, really, it does.  So, just for a laugh I stepped on the scale and then my eyes popped!

(I just love this lil' emoticon)

My weight is down 10 pounds.  I'm so happy!  I think the worst is over and I'm really on my way now!  Feeling Lighter!

Buyer's Remorse Moment on 3/4/16

Mar 05, 2016

So, last night I was feeling awful.  Couldn't fart, tummy rumbling constantly, sipping and feeling like the cup wasn't getting any emptier.  So I just had an emotional dump too - what the heck.  I cried like a baby and my hubby just held me and tried his best to figure out what was wrong.  I can't even tell him except everything was wrong.  I didn't feel good - period.  What have I done to myself?   What if I have major complications.  How could I be so stupid to let the surgeon use a robot for nearly the first time on ME.  I can't even cry right - my belly was hurting just from crying.  I just let it all hang out and cried.  I feel better now.  I guess I needed to release the stress of it all.

3 Months Into my Presurgery Requirements

Sep 18, 2015

I'm on my way toward surgery!  My insurance requires 6 months of dietician appts before surgery.   I've been seeing so many doctors I just don't know what...

Had my initial surgery consult with Dr. Hallowell on 7/14/15.  They require an EKG, pulmonary function test, and psychological evaluation.  Psych eval is Nov. 7th - all other requirements are done.

Saw my PCP to get started with first nutritional appt. on 7/15.   She referred me to a dietician.

Saw the dietician in August and September.

I have a routine screening colonoscopy scheduled for October 1st.  Must start low fiber diet a week before procedure and drink that horrid stuff the night before.  UGH!  But, I chose to do this in order to be sure that everything is in good shape before surgery.  I hope I don't regret it!

I have my daughter signed up to go to the family nutrition center program.  I'll go with her, so that we can sort of be on the same page before surgery.  She's only 12, but it will be beneficial for her to get some support in healthy eating too.

It's a Start!

May 28, 2015

Hi All,

I'm just getting started with all this bariatric surgery stuff.  Don't know yet if my insurance will approve it, but I'm doing everything I can to be prepared.  Had a mammogram, pap smear, seeing a psychologist, have appt. scheduled with Psychiatry, trying to pull together a history of weights/dates, have scheduled an appt. with a nutritionist.

I have Type 2 Diabetes, weight 345 lbs, and I'm turning 55 in July.  I'll be having surgery at UVA, if all goes well.  Don't really know what to say, except Dr. Peter Hallowell is at UVA, not what it said when you sign up - Pittsburgh, I think?
