The wait was SHORT!!!

I am so excited!  Yesterday, July 12, 2007, I was approved by insurance company for my consultation and initial work up with Dr. Patching.  I am so excited I can hardly stand it! I was already contacted by the sweetest person for Dr. Patching's office and "took" the next available appointment on September 6th... I know it's weeks away, but this is my last fat summer, and I am going to get on the ball here and work really hard to get some weight off in prep for surgery.  I hope it "counts"... I guess it counts in life.  YaaaaaaaaaaaaY!!!!!!!!!!!

The waiting game begins.... I got a letter from the insurance company dated July 2, they said they need "more information" from my doctor before they can approve my referral to see Dr. Patching.... The letter said, "you don't need to do anything".... Ok, this sucks!   I did give my doctor a one year diary of my weight loss and regain so she can fight for my cause, I hope it helps... I have gained and lost the same 20 pounds about 4 times this year... I guess that's a pretty familiar story. I am still feeling really positive and am very excited about the surgery and my chance at a new life... even if I have to wait another year and prove that I am diet failure (at over 300 lbs I think it's obvious!) I am committed to doing so... I am going to make this happen!

June 22, 2007... I had an appointment with my primary care doctor, she agrees that WLS is the best option for my long term health.  My blood pressure is sky high (170/100) even ON BP meds... I started a new BP med today and now I wait with baited breath for Dr. Patching's office to call me to set up an appointment... I am so excited I can hardly stand it.  I have been eating better already, and trying to move more in anticipation of my future.  I just read "Exodus from Obesity"  It was an excellent and quick read that I think gave lots of good and practical advice for living before during and after WLS....  I am so excited for this adventure to begin... I've never been so thrilled to face something that will undoubtedly also be lots of hard work.  I keep combing over Obesity Help site and am more and more motivated by the minute.  I look forward to being reborn.

After years and years of researching WLS, I have finally decided that I DESERVE to have it, and I am going to make it happen.  I have an appointment on June 21 with my PCP to get a refferal to Dr. Steven Patching.  My insurance company (I called them first!) told me that they will cover the surgery and that Dr. Patching is the provider they cover.  I have spent the last few days combing the internet to learn about Dr. Patching (I had just assumed Dr. Waldrep would be doing the surgery), and I am nervous about losing weight before surgery, but beyond excited- he sounds GREAT!  I guess I shouldn't be so nervous about losing weight before surgery, we all know how to lose a few pounds, don't we?  I feel very brave, and know I am going to make this happen.  I look forward to living a healthier and more full life and being a more active mom to my 4 kids.
