Almost 2 months out (post op), wow!

Oct 20, 2009

Well, it has been almost two months since my surgery date, and I am down to 292 which is a loss of 50lbs.  It is hard to imagine that 50lbs has gone in less than 8 weeks, but then again, the VSG never ceases to amaze.

Regarding food intake, it is solids now, basically a lot less of it.  I am more self aware of what is good and what is not, and McDonalds, or the thought of it now, I find unappealing at best.  While on the road working, I tried a sandwich, 1 bite and I was feeling ill.

I spend a lot of time on the road, and I find that Wendy's Chilli is a good option.  The small fits just right.

The 3-week stall and then some good news.

Oct 04, 2009

Having had surgery on the 26th of August, I didn't know what to expect as far as weight loss.  But today is the 4th of october and the weigh in says 300lb. I did have a stall about the three week mark;this lated a week. Considering that I started out at 341.5 lb pre-op, for a six week journey it beats the heck outa Jenny Craig.  By now, if I had have been on that diet (again), I would most certainly be back to my old ways already and in the process of regaining.

The VSG tool has eliminated that idea and I find it impossible to think about it any other way....even if I wanted to, I couldn't.  The VSG is like a watchdog over you when it comes to food.  plainly put, it will not allow you to eat more than it can take, and there are sterm consiquencies if you try to work arounf that (not that you'd want to anyway).

At six weeks, I have noticed a large shrinkage in a lot of places, and feel great knowing that I am along for the ride, and that I basically have little choice but to loose this weight over time.  I don't like sweets, and have no desire to graze other than mealtimes.  I hope that this regiment lasts forever, its helps with the food management systems.

I do, however have a little bit of acid stomach...there is no pain per se, but rather a very very slight feeling inside that something is no right, once I take an ant-acid, it clears up fine for several hours, so this is what it is.  I am hoping that this little 'off' feeling will finally go away after a while.  My sister in law had VSG a few months ago, and it went away eventually.

I do feel better, I do have more energy and I do have a better outlook on life knowing that I am changing for the better.

I would recommend the VSG for anyone who is intrested in taking control of the fat monster.  It can change and save your life for sure.  It did mine, I am sure.

Wow VSG is working....

Sep 09, 2009

Today was my two week date from surgery at Dr. B's office, and the official scale said 313lbs down from 341lbs, a drop of 28lbs in two weeks.

I feel great, no pain or discomfort anymore, my incisions are healing up nicely, no real issues with the diet.  I originally bought Dr. B's two week nutitional package which REALLY helped get the eating thing in order, it also helps remove the indecisions about what you are supposed to eat daily.  for the past two weeks, I have been on automatic and not thought about it, this week comes the mushy to solid food phase, and its a bit more difficult figuring out just what to get in so that the 65g of protien intake is met.

I have reverted to MS Excel and made a spreadsheet to keep track of the intakes based on the food types.  It lets me know what I'm missing and what is needed.  So much easier than guessing.

Well, my weight bus has left the building so to speak and I am planning on being a big looser from here on out.  I will post again at 1 month (two weeks from now).

A week out...who wouldda known

Sep 03, 2009

It is now a week out from surgery.  I feel great, no pain anywhere at all.  I can feel things (OK-FAT) loosening up all over.  wifiey sez I am looking a bit smaller :)

I would do it again, my surgery went off without so much as a hitch.  This is largely due to the professionals I had working on me.  I am keeping to my prescribed diet, and all is working well.

I am keeping the scale thingy in the closet, its not coming back out for another three weeks, we will see how I've don at the 1 month mark.

I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy with my decision to do this, I love it.

Day 5..it's coming together now

Aug 31, 2009

Today, I feel even better that previous days, and I dare say almost normal.  I do have a little pain from my incisions, especially the one on the left side of my abdomen.

It was the wife's Birthday today, so we ended up going to Koto's which is a Japanese Habatchi Grill.  Strangest thing, with all the shrimp, steak and chicken being bantered around by the chef, I did not feel the first sign of any hunger.  That was a wierd experience.  Currently the OFF switch is truly OFF.

Stay tuned...

now Day 4...

Aug 30, 2009

Today, I can say that I am feeling much better.  That feeling of dancing up close with a lawnmower on my tummy is definately decreasing.  I feel much better and also feel that my proportions are changing.  Wifiey says that my tummy is definately smaller .

As far as pain...none.
Hunger....none
Cravings...none
Well being...improved
Sefl image....getting better
Comfort level....good
Confidence about loosing weight for sure...100%
Going back to being fat...no chance
Thoughts of the future and outlook for my life...greatly improved.
Thoughts about putting on the feed bag when I can eat solids...not bothered.

So far, I give this decision 15.7 out of 10.  It rocks!!!!!

To stay on track, invite your family and friends...

Aug 29, 2009

I just discoverd that we can invite our friends to the board.  A very good friend of mine who I have known since childhood is now a part of my journey.  We have know each other nearly 40 years, and It is a pleasure to have him as my friend.  Sometimes, as we go thorugh life, its hard to say that you have a real friend, most folks are only passing acquanteces.  He has always been there, and I will be for him also.  The point I am making is for those who need support, invite your family and friends to share in this experience with you, I realized that it can make the path much easier to follow.  Peace & Love to all o' y'all.

Day 3...

Aug 28, 2009

I have decided to put a leash on the scale for a while and not get into looking at it everyday.  This becomes, I could see, an obsessive behavior.  I have had the VSG already, so unless I sabbotage myself to no end, this fat is commin' off.

A few extra items I am noticing that appear at first to be quite a concern, but not really.   This is more info for those who will follow this path.

1. Dry mouth, its OK and tolerable.
2. Ketosis, bad breath, which is also normal as the fatness melts away, ketones are relased from the fat cells. yeah!
3. A pain in the lower left side, just below the rib cage.  Again, normal for several weeks seeing that a large part of your stomach is now missing and the space needs to be taken up.  Not to mention all the moving and fixing the Dr. has done inside to make this happen.  Its sore, and will be for a while.
4. Sore back, mid section.  not sure, but I think its left over gas from the surgery, this has been getting better daily.
5. A complete lack of craving. with the ghrelin part of the stomach gone, BAM! no hunger cravings.

I watched the family down a nice pizza last night, I may as well have been looking at a coffee coaster being eaten.  Actually, no reaction to wanting or desiring to tear into pizza....at all.

So far, still some mild discomfort, no pain meds last night so it was not that bad.  I am beginning to LOVE MY SLEEVE :)

2nd day post-op

Aug 28, 2009

Hi all, this is my second day post op, and I am feeling a bit better, but tired and weak.  In general, my feeling is one of definately doing the right thing, no questions about that.  I am looking forward to buying some new clothes and looking a bit more respectable out in public.  The liquid diet is actually quite good.  With the sleeve, the urge for food has diminished significantly due to the fact that most of my Ghrenlin hormones left on the last train outame two days ago.  Its actually a nice feeling not to be tempted by food.  I dont know if this angle will change, but its good right now....no urges to eat I mean.

Be back tomorrow.....love, peace

1 Day Post op

Aug 27, 2009

OK, on this blog, all I can tell you is that the surgery went VERY WELL.  Thanks to Dr. Bellanger and his staff at St. Elizabeths.  He came to see me this morning before discharge, I thanked him for saving my life.  He is truly an inspiration in the medical community.  Top Notch!

Well I am home now, and I must say that I now only feel a slight discomfort in my tummy, other than feeling tired, not much has changed.

I thought about food today, and it was much like thoughts of a new car, or whatever...nice, but I don't need it right now.  Kinda strange not to want to put the feed bag on and guzzle away.  I have been following Dr. B's meal plan as he recommends, and its quite good.  I recommend it.

Anyway, I'm off to be getting ready for my second day post-op.  I'll be back tomorrow.  Love, peace, Mark
