Where did the time go?

Jun 30, 2010

I'm LONG overdue for a post! Things are going well for the most part.  I've noticed that my weight loss has a slowed a little and I lost 10 pounds since my last post a month ago. 10 pounds is still great, but I feel like I've been at the same weight for the past 2 weeks.  The good news is that I'm still getting smaller in inches even if the scale isn't moving.  I feel like every week I get new compliments from people talking about the very noticeable changes in my appearance and my attitude. I'm down to a size 16 from a size 24 5 1/2 months ago, which puts me down 5 sizes.  My 6 month check up with the doctor's office is scheduled for 2 weeks from now.  I really wanted to hit 100 pounds by then, but I don't see how it's possible to lose an additional 15 pounds between now and then.  So I'll take what I have and roll with it and continue to be happy and proud of how far I've come.

So the biggest update since my last post is that I have added 2 more triathlons to my season and my first one is on July 11th.  I hired a coach and joined a group of ladies that train with her.  Since she and the other ladies live 45 minutes away, I only see them on Sundays for the brick workouts (bike and run immediately after the bike).  Things with the training are going much better than I could have ever expected! Three weeks ago I went from running my first mile without stopping since I was 15 years old, to 2 days later running 3 miles non-stop.  I finally listened to a seasoned triathlete who told me that I just had to slow down my running speed to be able to sustain and pace myself and boy was he right.  I'm still only averaging 12-13 minute miles but I'm thrilled! AND I'm doing this running on a track which is harder than the treadmill.

I consulted with the nutritionist before I started triathlon training and she increased my nutritional goals.  Before I was trying to take in as much protein and on some days I exceed 100 grams of protein and I was limiting myself to 50 grams of carbs a day.  Stacy changed my goals to 80 grams of protein and 100 grams of carbs a day which should put me around 1,000 calories a day.  For the most part I'm right around these goals every day.  It took me a few weeks to adjust to the increased carbs since I was so used to limiting myself.  So I added things like watermelon and a sugar free flavored oatmeal into my diet.  I'm still drinking the shakes, though not quite with the regularity as before.  I still drink the shakes at least 5 days a week.  I'm curious to see if my nutrition goals will change again once I see the new nutritionist at my 6 month appointment.  Maybe that's where my weight loss stall is coming from?  I might need an adjustment somewhere in my nutrition.

Well that's my update for now.  I'll check back in after my 6 month follow-up appointment with the hott surgeon and the new nutritionist.
