Martin Valley Bariatrics Bariatric Center

My first impression of Dr. Derick Martin was that he was a personable, knowledgable caring doctor. When I had my surgery, I experienced complications within 3 days, which required surgery take care of an obstruction. Dr. Martin did not dismiss me until he was sure that I was "out of the woods" and well enough to go home.
The office staff was good, and since he's moved, his new staff is great also. Aftercare has been efficient and thorough, giving attention to any possible problems concerning vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
Pre-op and post-op information about risks of the surgery was thorough, but I also researched the surgery myself, mainly using the internet.
Dr. Martin's surgical competence, bedside manner were both wonderful, but I appreciated his bedside manner after the surgery, especially since I had complications and needed reassurance.

I haven't meet Dr Martin yet .My first appointment with him is on Feb.27th. But I did meet him at the informational meeting and he was very knowledgable , said preformed over 900 surgeries. I also checked out his background and he went to one of the top med schools in New York City. So which made me feel very comfortable knowing that he has LOTS of experience. His medical staff worked very fast in getting me scheduled for surgery. Igive his medical staff two thumbs up...!!!The only negative thing I can think of is they schedule your appointments for you with out checking what my schedule is like....probablly because they are so busy.....My surgery is scheduled for Mar.11,2003......

My first impression was good. He took his time with me and answered all my questions. I liked him even more over time. Office staff was very helpful and caring. There was nothing I didn't like about him. He is very caring about his patients. I had complications after my surgery and he spent a lot of time at the hospital. He kept my family informed of my condition.
He has support meetings monthly and does encourage you to attend. He also sees you every month for three months then every three months for a year. He addressed all risks and complications of the surgery. I think he is great and I would reccomend him to anyone who is considdering the surgery. I think both surgical competence and bedside manner are great.

Dr. Martin was wonderful. I was about to leave the pre op room and he was able to cut through my fear with his humor. The staff was great. But, I was supposed to go home on blood thinner shots and the office staff didn't get that done or even call me to let me know it. I was very dissappointed. I would really recommend Dr. Martin. He is very compassionate toward his barriatric patients.

First of all, Dr. Martin is not in Middletown any longer. His office is in MVH at 30 Apple St. Dayton, OH. I haven't met him yet, but I have read very good reviews. I thought he might be my surgeon when I was with another office, so I am pleased to have him now. I am very impressed with his assistant, Anne. I had already been approved for the surgery, but all the other offices I called wanted me to go through the whole dang process again. Anne recognized the time constraints I was under and I had a date within 24 hours. I will update when and if I am able. *nervous grin*
After surgery, my opinion changed somewhat. He is a VERY busy surgeon. I am not sure I am getting the aftercare I would had I went with a less busy doctor. He triple and quadruple books his appointments for aftercare and the wait has not been less than an hour as of yet. (6 weeks, 4 appointments). I have waited up to 2 hours and fifteen minutes.
One incident disturbs me. I had some nagging pain and called him pretty early on a Thursday evening through his answering service. He did not get back to me until noon the next day and then he sent me to the emergency room to be checked for blood clots. I have not questioned him, but what if it would have been a clot on Thursday??
On the positive side, he did visit each day I was in the hospital and was very good about pain management.
Bottom line, in my opinion, he is an excellent surgeon, great at the hospital, and tolerable at aftercare. Just speak your needs loud and clear and don't take no for an answer.

I started out with Fallang/Martin in Middletown, with surgery scheduled with Dr.Martin. Then 2wks before my surgery, I was told that Dr Martin and Dr Fallang were no longer practicing together. I opted to stay with Dr Martin for several reasons, My work schedule was already set, childcare arranged, and Dr Fallang spoke highly of Dr Martin at his informational session in March of 2002. I met Dr Martin for the first time the Friday before my surgery. (surgery date was 8/26/02). He and his staff were very friendly and informative. We went over any questions that I had at the time. His office is very busy. Almost always standing room. But everyone(staff and patients) is always nice and friendly. Dr Martin is a very down to earth person. In my personal opinion, I felt that his bedside manner and competence for the surgery were great. Aftercare is stressed as being very important in their office. The only negative that I found was the wait in their office, but each visit to him, the wait gets less.

I THANK GOD FOR DOC DEREK MARTIN HE WAS A GREAT SURGEON. HE NOW WHAT HE IS DOING WHEN IT COME TO THE GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY.WHEN I WENT TO THE SUPPORT MEETING I FELT GREAT ABOUT HIM DOING MY SURGERY.HIS OFFICE STAFF IS GREAT.THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN YOU CALL AND SAY THAT YOU ARE SICK THEY WOULD SAYYOU ARE EATING TO MUCH. BUT OVERALL I WOULD GIVE DOC MARTIN 10+AND HIS OFFICE STAFF A 9 GOD BLESS YOU DOC MARTIN KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
