SC Obesity Surgery Center Bariatric Center

I really like Dr. Strickland. He listened to everything I had to say, answered all of my questions, and really took the time to make sure I felt 100% comfortable. His staff is awesome! They bend over backwards to help me since I am driving 100 miles to them by putting my appointments together and working with my schedule. I have had consults with a total of six surgeons who perform this surgery. Two in Charleston, two in Conyway, and two in Columbia. Riverside Surgical is the best of the best in my opinion!

I will update after my surgery... December 15th is my surgery date!

I saw to Dr. Strickland and I have been extremely pleased with him and his office staff. Some surgeons perform this surgery as another choice on their menu of services but Dr. Strickland has truly dedicated his practice to gastric bypass. He has seminars, requires everything that the ABS recommends, and has a support group. When I was denied the second time, his staff didn't give up on me or tell me that I was on my own to appeal. They were supportive and encouraging.

2/8/03 Since my first surgery was cancelled because of a blood clot I have had a longer time to get to know Dr. Strickland. I feel extremely comfortable with him and his staff. Obviously, there are additional issues now that I have a blood clot. He referred me to a hemotologist to see if I was hypercoagulable. Dr. Strickland and his staff have been very supportive. They have had to coordinate and discuss my surgery and medication management with my PCP and Hemotologist. I have complete faith in them!
They truly are working together and have my best interest in heart.


8/05 What more can I say...Dr. Strickland has a special place in my heart. He, and his skills, gave me the greatest gift I could have received. I can't see the man without hugging him.

I liked Dr. Strickland very much. Very personable, funny, and open. I have my consult with him Monday, July 11th for my first one on one. Am EXCITED!!

I appreciated and respected Dr. Givens the moment I met him (he is also my sister's surgeon). He is the rare kind of doctor that is great at what he does and also cares about the people he helps. The entire staff is amazing, very friendly, on top of paperwork, and never made me feel like "just another patient." If I made one recommendation, it would be that everyone seriously wanting this life change go to South Carolina Obesity Center, to Dr. Givens. I truly have no negative comments related to his treatment of me...only that he doesn't live in Virginia. :)

He was very personable. He was very informative. The office staff is great. I have to drive 2 hours one way and they work with me for appointments. He strongly emphasizes aftercare. It is a big part of the surgery. He will tell you up front the risks of surgery.

Dr. Givens seems to be a very nice person. He explains everything thoroughly and seems to care about your personal feelings. Everything that I was concerned about, he explained and he made me feel like he was just an all around good fella!

I went to the seminar on 4/20/05 and went for the consult on 4/28/05.

I feel very good about Dr. Givens. I've been researching WLS for almost 10 years now and it's just been in the last few months that the planets have aligned just right and my situation has allowed me to pursue the surgery.

He seemed very confident that he can do the surgery lap. I had resigned myself that it would probably have to be open. I'm going to go into to this expecting it to be open and if he's able to do it lap then it'll be a nice surprise.

I like the office and I like Dr. Givens nurse Joey too. Only complaint I have is the long walk from the elevator. ;-)

Dr. Strickland is very knowledgeable and patient. He is willing to take all of the time I need to explain and follow up with my WLS journey. He is a christian and welcomes prayer for himself and his partner. The office staff has always been willing to assist me in any way possible. If I need a return call, I always receive one in a timely manner. Future patients should contact his office and see how they feel before making a decision. I believe that he is the best WLS! I think everyone would be comfortable with him. He places a lot of emphasis on aftercare, and he is willing to follow through in all areas. His program is the most structured pre and post care program that I have seen, and I researched quite a few. The risks and benefits of the surgery to me personally (using my medical history) were addressed completely. I would rate him a 10 out of 10! His surgical competence and bedside manner are tops!!! I honestly couldn't have anything negative to say.

I was very comfortable with Dr. Strickland from the start.He was very willing to help with any questions I had.I have looked into hismedical backroundas well as his qualifications in this area.His staff has been very helpful with my needs.I have spcail needs as far as dates and shceduling and they had to make many changes and the staff was wonderful.I feel that the program with Dr Stickland as well as Dr Givens is a wonderful program.The seem to have a good aftercare program.The whole staff is very direct and to the point.They not only tell you about the benifits of this surgery,they also point out all the risks.I still have a long way to go once I have my surgery but I have the trust of the Dr as well as his staff behind me.

I MEET DR. GIVENS AT THE SEMINAR ON MAY 19, I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH HIM. HE WAS VERY INFORMATIVE AND HONEST ABOUT THE SURGERY. I LEFT THERE FEELING CONFIDENT ABOUT MY DECISION.
