i found dr thayer to be very imformative and considerate. he answered my questions appropriately and with much sensitivity. his office staff is awesome. the are all very sensitive and kind. the are so pleasant. i have called the office several times, nerves or excitement i quess, and they never seem bothered the the phone calls. i tell them we wil be best friends be the end of this. the initial consult is a long but much needed process. it is obvious they don't want you to go away confused or discouraged. the pre and post op care regimen is strict but needed with required support group meetings and post op visits. i watched a video that discussed complications in detail it was good. dr thayer has oth excellent surgical competence and bedside manner coming from a nurse they both mean a great deal to me

Dr. Thayer was very genial and friendly and immediately put me at my ease. He answered all my questions and discussed what my being so severely overweight was doing to me.

I continue to trust him and am glad he was my surgeon.

His office staff is very courteous, his nurse manager very informative. I have a problem with skinny nutritionists and more or less have ignored them!

You really need both surgical competence and bedside manner - I was reassured when a med student on his team told me he was a taskmaster in the operating room, but with me he was always reassuring but thorough.

He needs a larger office though - people are sitting on each other in the waiting room!!

well I had my frist appointment on 2/27/02 with the Doctor it went good , I really like him he has a very kind and he knows his stuff. I have lung problems and that is a concern, but we are working on that I have to wait for my surgery date to be mailed to me. I have waited this long whats another two weeks. His staff are very nice as well and I was impressed with the people that I got to spend time with because there is alot of time between your meetings with the staff. I was there 41/2 hours there I had the flu so it seem even longer ,but I got throw it and now I'm on my way. I'm content with Doctor Thayer and his staff.

Dr. Thayer is a wonderful man. He is very funny and down to earth! WONDERFUL bedside manner. I am really feeling good about this choice!
The staff at the office is very helpful and organized. They always are responsive to my calls with questions, etc. Susan was instrumental in helping me to gain approval through my husband's insurance which initially denied my surgery. ONE appeal letter and that changed, thankfully!
Originally, I met with Dr. David Reines but he has relocated to DC (I think). He was very thorough in his description of the surgery and all the risks/benefits involved. A real class act is what my initial impressions were of the Newton-Wellesley team! Thanks!

I called the office and spoke with susan.
She was very nice and easy to talk with.
I can not wait until my appt. And am having it the same time as my husband which was very nice of her to do.
I also went to the support meeting. I met the nutritionist, psycologist and dr. thayers partner and they were very informative and the meeting helped me understand more.
I will go to all the meetings as i believe they will help me in the long run and you never know what you may learn.

I was recommended to Dr Thayer by a friend from work named Jeff Hastings. He had the surgery in December of 2001. He is now a year out and looking good.

What I liked most about Dr. Thayer was his caring attitude and success record with wls. It was so convenient to meet the Nutritionist, the psychologist, and the Doctor all in the first 3 hour appointment.
Everyone one in Dr. Thayers office was courteous and understanding and totally proffesional. They are handling all paperwork for the insurance company as well as scheduling all tests. I received a surgery date roughly 3 weeks after my first appointment of April 18th. So far everthing has gone very well.

I am being totally honest when I say he is the most sincere doctor I have ever met. He is very understanding and not judgemental. His office staff is very professional and will answer any question you have. They have taken care of everything for me concerning my insurance, so far this has been an easy journey. I hope it is as easy after the surgery. This office recommends not missing any of your appointments after your surgery. They have support group meetings at their location twice a month. The y spent plenty of time going over all the risk involved in a major surgery like this, they have literature and videos for you to watch and will answer any questions for you. I would rate this doctor and office staff as a 9 out of 10. I think that both surgical competence and bedside manner are both necessary in finding that perfect doctor. And I found that in Dr Thayer. I called Doctor Thayers office for the first time on January 10th, 2002. I was very pleased with how they handled my call and introduced the procedures for going ahead. Both my wife and I spent alot of time looking up Doctors in my area. Although he was my first choice my primary doctor ref. me to another doctor. I went to a information/support meeting and i left knowing that he was not the right choice. I look forward to meeting with Dr. Thayer and starting this new journey.

I found Doctor Thayer to be a very warm person and I felt right at home with his whole staff.I felt the trust issue was so important and he exceded my expectations in every way. he had to get tough with me just prior to my surgery because I was having "last supper syndrome" and packed on some additional weight.
His team are a very organized and professional group that leads you every step of the way from first appointment to the follow up visits. Newton Wellesley Hospital has support group meetings monthy. The wait is now more then six months and I think that can be very frustrating for some but it is so worth it to have the best and in my opinion he is the best. I have had no complications and feel that I put my trust in the right man.
