Bruce Thayer Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

First off Dr. Thayer is out of Newton, MA not Plymouth. I found him to be a caring and warm person. His office staff was very nice and answered all of my questions. The only down side to my visit was the wait. However, this one visit you meet with everyone at once. The Dr even called me on a Sunday to tell me that my iron was low and I needed to start taking iron supplements. The one thing the Dr does not stand is people gaining weight before the surgery. If you do he will post pone your surgery. The wait time from your consult to your surgery is long (4 months). I would recommend him to anyone. I will post more after my surgery.

he was very smart and caring.everytime i went to see him for appointments.the staff was wonderful, caring.and very friendly. nothing at all. that he is very honest with his patiants.he says it very important to keep the follow ups.over all i would rate him on a scale from 1 to 10 1 being the best i would give him a 1 . i would not have changed dr.s for anything in the world hes the BEST!!!!!!!

I liked him from the first. He was friendly, forthcoming, and treated me like an intelligent adult. I have not changed my opinion.
The office staff is wonderful. Very warm, very reassuring, very supportive.
He is very busy. It is not easy to get a surgery date. I had a 4-month wait from approval to actual surgery.
The after care is adequate, but not exceptional. The hospital has a support group that meets weekly as well.
The information provided about risks was accurate and we were all encouraged to do our own research as well, and ask questions.
I would rate him A+ as a surgeon, with the post op care a very good B+.
He has a delightful bedside manner. I enjoy visiting him. A good surgeon and a good guy!

When I first met Dr. Thayer I found him to be very personable. His office staff are great people to deal with and are very prompt in returning phone calls or answering any question you may have. Dr.Thayer is very
dedicated to his profession and stresses the fact that if one pound is gained before surgery he'll postpone your surgery date. All patients that I chatted with while in the office spoke highly of all the professionals associated with Newton-Wellesley. Pre-Op and Post-Op care is very important and found that the program and support group is very organized and very helpful. Dr. Thayer was very honest with addressing the risk of surgery but says that the risks of being over weight out weigh the risks of the surgery. So far I am very happy with Dr. Thayer and his program at Newton-Wellesley.

I had my first meeting with Dr. Thayer on 2/13/02. My appointment was scheduled to be from 11-2. I found his office support staff and medical staff to be informative, kind, knowledgable, and so accomadating. The program seems to be very comprehensive and sound. I met with a psychologist, nutritionist, nursing staff, and Dr. Thayer. They all stressed the importance of using the surgery as a tool and utilize the supports they offer. Dr. Thayer was a bit concerned with my diagnosis of Ulcerative Colitis and did inform me if he thought that woulbe a complication or provide me with long term ramifications he would not perform the surgery. So, for now I have a tenative week that I will be operated on, the first week in June. Hooray! But if Dr. Thayer believes that I may have some complications related to my UC he will not perform the surgery. But---I understand!

I went in for my initial consult already knowing how great my surgeon and his staff were. Even though I knew, I was immediately at ease once I was in the office. Everyone from the receptionist, to the surgeon (s) was extremely pleasant, and explained everything to me in great deal. The only thing I worried about at my consult was weather or not my insurance would cover it. Well the office said that I have the easiest insurance carrier in massachusetts, and that i would have to do nothing, they would take care of everything. (They did too) They will even cover a hospital bed rental for when I come home. All I need is a prescription from my Dr! The only problem that day, was the long wait to see the Dr. I was in the office for a total of 3.5 hours. However this made me feel even better, because it again showed me what a great surgeon he was. It also gave me the opportunity to talk to other people some of whom were only 10 days post-op. To look at them you would NEVER be able to tell that they just had major surgery. My next office appointment is scheduled for June 19th, where i will be told in more detail about what to expect, and ask any other concerns that I may have. I would give BOTH surgeons in the office a 20 out of 10 being the best!! My Surgeons are Dr. Bruce Thayer, and Pablo Gazmuri at Newton-Wellesley hospital in Newton,MA.
