Had problems with old Surgeon's office so I decided to go with Dr. Ki Oh in Federal Way. Went to his orientation April 21st. Have had 2 appointments with him and an Endoscopy...found lots of problems there.
My letter was sent to Blue Cross/Blue Shield of California on Thursday July 8th and have already been approved (July 14th) so next step is getting the surgery date.
First impression of Dr. Oh: I thought he was funny and he described what he would be doing perfectly.
I say overall, so far as a pre-surgery patient...10.
I like the man...I think he has a great sense of humor but he's down to the point and that's what I like the best. I don't like beating around the bush. Give it to me straight.
These are my opinions only...I've not found one thing negative about Dr. Ki Oh or his staff, they are friendly as can be and it's nice that they've had the surgery I'm going to have.

When I first met Dr. Oh it was at his orientation. I was immediately drawn to his sense of humor! He really seems to care about his patients. I have only met with him one other time, and my impression of him has not changed.
Dr. Oh's staff is absolutely WONDERFUL!!! They are deeply concerned about my progress. They helped me get my surgery approved by the insurance company. They also have answered all of my millions of questions about this procedure. They are very good at calming my fears, most having had the surgery.
Dr. Oh emphasizes aftercare considerably. He will be seeing me monthly to make sure I am taking all of my supplements and taking my protein. He has a very structured aftercare program.
Dr. Oh informed me of the risks of my surgery. I also am aware of the risks of NOT having the surgery.
The one negative thing I have to say about Dr. Oh thus far is that he had to change my appointments. I think that this may have been beyond his control, however. I had one appointment changed two times -both times because Dr. Oh had to perform a surgery. It was frustrating for me to have to reschedule.
At our nutrition class the teacher said that Dr. Oh tells his patients to take all of the supplements and protein, but doesn't explain why it is necessary. The nutrition teacher told us why we had to take them, though.

Nothing in general, he seemed very knowlagable. In fact I have met many of his past patients, and even ones that have had problems/complications they speak very highly of him. And that is impressive to me. They don't go off looking for someone else. Beacuse they are so confident in him.
His staff are very friendly, and I'm not...but when I go there I fell very comfortable. And a few of his staff are past patients. All future patients should know that he seems to be a perfectionist, and is straight forward, about what he expects for you to be successful. His emphasis on after care is also great, and very structured easy to follow. Not hard so you won't find yourself trying to quit. He addressed the risks before surgery has you sign a contract that goes over everything from A to Z. And when you have q's just note it on that portion of the form and he answers your questions.
He is very competent, knowledgeable, his bedside manner you have to get used to. Not bad just some people may not be used to his personality.......But for me he reminds me of my stepdad. I really appreciate him.

I would recommend Dr. Oh to anyone! He truly cares about his patients. I love the staff, Sherrie has had the surgery and is a great source of information. His office isn't very fancy. Aftercare and vitamins are required. He has me do bloodwork every four months to ensure that I am on track. My first priority was surgical competence. Dr. Oh has an excellent record. He has a quirky sense of humor that takes some time to get used to. He is a wonderful, caring doctor.

Being out of state patients (Alaska) my wife and I didn't get to meet Dr. Oh in person until the Friday before her surgery.
The initial meeting didn't go very well with my wife when he dropped the bomb that he wanted us on a clear liquid diet only until our surgeries, 3 days for my wife, 1 week 3 days for me. What created the problem was that we had been asking if there was any type of special diet pre-op and were told no so it was a bit of a shock. After getting over that we were fine. We would now recommend him as a surgeon to anyone after going through the entire process.
His office staff, Autumn and Casey are great. They're bubbly, energetic, and very helpful.
Dr. Oh has a somewhat dry sense of humor, which at first is a bit hard to catch. Once you get it though he's actually quite personable. Some have described him as having poor bedside manner. He's just down to the point and doesn't step lightly. I personally liked that in him. I wanted him to be a good surgeon, not my friend.
Dr. Oh actually places a lot of emphasis on Vitamins and protein compared to some of the other surgeons that I've heard of. He also stresses exercise.
He doesn't really have a structured aftercare program other than follow up visits. He does encourage exercise though.
Dr. Oh went over all of the risks very heavily, even making us describe them back to him in a sort of pre-op test.
I would rate Dr. Oh very highly. He is a very skilled surgeon that I would, and did, trust to operate on me and this was my very first operation.
As stated before, I place a lot of value in surgical competence over bedside manner. I wasn't looking for a confidant, but a very good surgeon, and Dr. Oh is very good.

Dr. Oh is a wonderful surgeon & I am really glad I had him. He has a very strict after program that you must follow or he will not be happy with you. Doesn't have a great bedside manner, but the most important thing is his skill & caring for his patients. I think he has enough of those two traits to make up for his bedside manner. I would recommend him to anyone that expressed interest in obtaining the surgery.

I first met Dr. Oh as I was being put "under" for my EGD. Kinda funny - we said hi -then I had the EGD. I wasn't really worried -as we are out of state paitents - and we were actually sitting down with him later that day.
As you will probably read in other's logs, he is very short and to the point - but he is never rude and will always take the time to answer your questions if you have them. He even encouraged me to ask more questions during an appointment when he sensed that I was a bit frustrated and didn't understand some stuff. All in all, it was more important to us to have a skilled experienced surgeon perform this operation than a surgeon that would try to be our best friend.
One thing that I remember and appreciated very much was while I was in the hospital. I had my surgery the day before and my husband was scheduled for his EGD that morning. I couldn't be with him - so my father came in to help him afterwards. Right after the proceedure, Dr. Oh came down to my room to check on me and then just let me know that all was well with Charles and the EGD was fine.

Aftercare is emphasized - but I can't tell you exactly to what extent since we live in Alaska. We did receive a pretty indepth booklet about what to eat, vitamins, protein supplements and the like prior to surgery and have continued to refer to it.

Dr. Oh's office staff is a compentent and caring group. The women took time no matter how many calls I made to answer my questions. They went out of their way to get us the info we needed - and I would say that is not common - Top Notch Staff.
