Leo Murphy Bariatric Surgeon
Dr. Leo Murphy was very professional and laid everything out very clearly. He did not sugar coat anything. He requires that before surgery you have to use Pro-Complex and get into an exerice program. He wants his patients to be sucessful and to have as little risk during surgery as possible. I felt comforted in his attention and throughness.
I saw Dr. Leo Murphy on March 22, 2002 for my consultation. He had a patient in distress in the hospital so my appointment was delayed. He had to interrupt my visit a couple of times to take calls regarding her status. I did not mind that because it made me feel good to know he cares that much about the comfort and success of his patients. In spite of that, he took the time to be sure I understood everything and did not make me feel rushed in any way. I feel very confident with Dr. Murphy as my surgeon.
He strongly emphasized starting to get ready for the surgery by excercising and eating a low fat diet and taking vitamins and proteim powder. I wish that the staff in his office could have been more informative about what happens next. If you do not ask alot of questions, they just say OK you are done.
Very business like but you knew he cared about you as a patient. Answered all questions. Was very emphatic about what I was to do if he was going to do my surgery.
Impression has not changed at this time. Have only had one meeting with him so far.
Office staff has been very helpful. There are a lot of patients so the office must be run like clock work. Was very impressed at the amount of patients in and out without loosing any.
He is a straight shooter and says what he means eventhough you might not want to hear it.
Very much, if he doesn't think you are serious and will not follow their instructions he won't do the surgery.
They have a number you can call with questions about the surgery or the diet.
They have set up support groups and require you to agree to meet their criteria for later visits and testing.
As for risks he called it for what it was, risky, but doable if you follow direstions and all goes well, but they do loose some.
Rate excellent overall.
His surgical competance is greater but I do appreciate the truth more than lies.
I first had the chance to go to one of his lectures seminar in Riverside, CA. Dr. Leo J. Murphy will tell you like it is. At my consultation he was straight and to the point. I felt comfortable with him right away, he is a likable person. I liked the fact that he said that it isn't my fault that I am morbidly obese, that it is a disease. Dr. stresses the importance of getting my physical body (inside and out) ready for surgery. He also says that I should start the pre-op program (vitamins, protein, and join a gym now) to get me ready for surgery. This will help me to not have problems during or after surgery. I appreciate that he treated me like an adult, informed me of all the facts regarding gastric bypass surgery, the risks, the changes I will go through, aftercare, short-term and long-term. Overall, Dr. Leo Murphy IS the surgeon for me, he is everything I want in a qualified, competent, and has a good bedside manner. I would highly recommend him.
My first and final impression of my surgeon is good. He is a very competent surgeon, and I'm glad I chose him. The office staff is very friendly and nice.
He does not have an aftercare program. He just tells you make sure you take your protein drink everyday and to exercise and drink plenty of water.
He did a wonderful job on my surgery and incision, which is the most important factor. His surgical competence was greater than his bedside manner. He's alittle too busy, too many patients.
i,ve seen dr leo 2x i liked his straight forwardness of what i must do to be prepared for.i did not like him not being in town for my release from hospital his daughter mary covered and i met her after 1 week follow-up i ate solids (a very small amount) i got my ass chewed, really good, but it was'nt so much as my health but that her dad took a big risk doing the operation that i was left with; i was'nt as important as their reputation.i was told i could follow the program or find another doctor! i do feel she is very capiable in any matter. the office staff was ok they want you to attend the meetings given by the dr.s within 6 months prior to surgury i went to 3 during my preop they wanted another i declined strongly several times before i was moved along. i'm sure i add much to this mix of stew i'd still go with this team overall i am happy
Dr. Murphy was very thourough, took time to answer all of my questions and put my wife and myself at ease. The office staff is very professional, and always there to answer my quesitons. My only complaint was that it seemed to take a longer time than necessary to get my surgery date after my initial consultation with the doctor.
