Leo Murphy Bariatric Surgeon
Dr. Murphy was a straightforward, callous doctor who told me what I didn't want to hear. I thought that my surgery would never take place after our meeting.
Dr. Murphy just wants the patient to take stake in the life change that will be occurring. He wants the patients to work hard before surgery so that post-op recovery is much easier.
Office staff is busy and not very cordial, but the phone staff is very responsive, prompt, and helpful, especially for long-distance patients.
I didn't like the fact that I didn't see my doctor, or any doctor, for three days, my entire hospital stay.
Be expected to work hard before surgery. Dr. Murphy expects a lot from his patients. It would benefit every patient to follow his suggestions prior to surgery. It will pay off.
There isn't much of an aftercare program for long distance patients. They do emphasize support group and followup at 1,3,6,9,12 months.
Dr. Murphy will lay everything on the line regarding the risks of surgery. Without sounding redundant, he will emphasize your participation in a rigorous pre-op program, including exercise, protein drink, losing pounds.
I rate Dr. Murphy 8 out of 10. Surgery wise, he is very competent. I would state that his surgical competence is stellar. His bedside manner could use some help, especially pre-op, but he just likes to lay it on the line.
Dr Murphy is a no nonsence doctor. He demands your dedication to the surgery. At the same time Dr. Murphy is a very good and very nice doctor.
It pretty much is the same but I now know that the doctor was right on.
The office staff was real good to work with.
I have no complaints.
If you want the operation to succeed Dr. Murphy is your man. I believe he will give you your best chance to succeed. Just do what he askes of you.
Dr. Murphy emphasises your exercise and diet strongly follow it and your gonna be a winner.
Pacific Bariatric has a guide to follow you can get a cook book also. Easy to do.
Well Dr. Murphy is straight to the point so be prepaired.
I think Dr. Murphy is very good I recomend him strongly.
A+ in all areas.
I felt during my first appt with Dr. Murphy that he is a caring, careful, and thorough surgeon. My first appt. with him was in April, 2002.
Last week I went in for my one-month follow up and found him to be very encouraging and supportive. Pacific Bariatric has strict guidelines for patients to follow both pre-op and post-op. There were many things that I needed to complete before Dr. Murphy approved a surgery date.
Overall, I am satisfied with my experience with Dr. Murphy. However, I really cannot rave about the hospital I was in, nor the bedside manner of one of his colleagues.
My first impression of Dr. Murphy was that he was a genuinely kind and compassionate physician. Each and every time I have had the pleasure of meeting with him, has been a joy. He truly cares about his patients. His office staff are kind but very busy. During my consultation with him, he emphasized how important exercise and adhering to the protocol would be if I want the surgery to be a success. After speaking with him, I felt even more motivated to start getting my body prepared for my upcoming surgery. I would rate Dr. Murphy a 8 only because I have not had the surgery yet. He is such a caring person. I feel so fortunate to have him as my surgeon.
Dr. Murphy impressed me as being very knowledgeable and competent in his field.
The day of my surgery he had an emergency case come in, so my surgery was a couple hours late, and he had to do a followup on the surgery that prevented him from meeting with my family.
I did get to see him the next day when he did rounds, and he reassured me about my prognosis. I was also very impressed with the resident that he had assisting him.
When I woke from surgery I found I had a drainage tube installed. This scared me a bit, but Dr. Murphy explained why it was there, so I was less apprehensive about it.
His office staff is a mixed bag, but most of them give the impression of being competent and knowledgeable.
My first impression of Dr. Murphy was one of comfort. Very easy to talk to. Has a sense of humor too. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Murphy from start to finish. He addressed the pros and cons of the surgery. His office staff was friendly but professional. I did'nt feel rushed or unimportant. With every appointment I had, I felt like I was at their most concern. Their was nothing I disliked about him or the staff. I especially like the way he as well as the staff took time to stress over and over how important it was to get out of bed and try to walk, and cough, and all the other important post op steps you have to go through. And how important it is to participate in the after care program. He was right there when I woke up in recovery, which was a surprise to me. I felt so special. He is a 10 in my book.
My first impression of Dr. Leo Murphy was great. He seemed like a very caring person. He kind of reminds me of my grandpa. He made me feel very comfortable, very quickly. His staff was great. I am the type of person that will call everyday, a couple times a day if need be, but they never got angry with me and they ALWAYS called me back. Lori was a lifesaver and she is very caring. Dr. Murphy stressed to me how important the aftercare is. He let me know that the most imprtant is Vitamins, Protien, and Excersize...matter fact he made me join a gym, just so I can get a head start on on my road to a healthly lifestyle. I feel very confidant in the Dr., he went over numourous times the pros and cons and most importantly the dangers of the surgery. Overall, my experiance with Dr. Murphy and his staff were wonderful!!!
My first appointment with Dr. Leo Murphy was in March 2002. I immediately felt Dr. Murphy was the doctor I wanted to do my surgery. He was very professional and was very interested in the well-being of his patient. He described in detail the surgical procedure, took the time to answer all my questions, and was very supportive of the efforts I had made prior to my surgery to lose weight, exercise and begin the protein regimen. I felt very good about the pre-surgical visit.
The office staff at Pacific Bariatrics are great. They are very pleasant and professional and very willing to assist you. When I had occasion to contact them by phone, they were very helpful and returned my calls quickly.
I had my surgery April 11, 2002 at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego. The surgery went very well. I had virtually no pain and felt great the day after my surgery. Dr. Murphy stopped by the see me the day after my surgery and his bedside manner is the greatest. After just 8 weeks, my scar looks absolutely fabulous. Dr. Murphy is a very talented and wonderful surgeon. Dr. Murphy cares very much about his patients and wants to see them succeed after surgery. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Murphy--I truly believe he is a gift from God!
Both I and my friend who attended the consultation with me were very impressed with Dr. Murphy. He had a warm and friendly beside manner, looked me in the eye, and was very upfront - something I greatly value. He was very thorough in explaining the procedure and though I had researched it and had attended a number of classes about the surgery,I still appreciated his taking the time to make sure I understood what would happen. I also greatly appreciated that neither Dr. Murphy or any of the staff at Pacific Bariatric with whom I have had contact treated me as though I was some sort of idiot. Neither did I feel any sort of denigration based on the fact I am fat. Rather, every person I have dealt with has treated me with dignity and courtesy. That means a lot to me. Dr. murphy emphasized the great importance of vigorous exercise and plenty of protein. I had already implemented all of that - though I have had to increase the hours of exercise - and I had already started the vitamin regimen. I am going into this surgery feeling very healthy and also, very confident in my surgeon and the type of care I will receive.
