My first impression of Dr. King wa wonderfusl. He wa relaxed and so was I. Bed-side manner weigh more in time like this. He sat and explaine the procedure to me. he answered all of my questions. He staff person was really informative and helpful in my quest. I go in for OP Surgery with Dr King on Dec 04-01 and I will ask him to speak with my support time( Hubby, son, 2xcuz0 I think they me reassuring more. Not that they are against my interes but they need that little push.
Dr King made me understand the changes that I will face, particularly in my health.. and the new thing I will be looking forward to once I have, as they say "crossed over". Dr King gave time and respect in making me feel good and comfortable with him and his work... which the opposite of another consulting Dr that I was seeking for this same procedure...
If you are looking for comfort, reassurance, peace of mind and an experienced physician cares , also who is on the board of bariatrics. seek Dr. King in MS . THANK YOU DR . KING AND YOUR ENTIRE STAFF....

Dr. King is an awesome dr.. I have really enjoyed having him as my surgeon. At first meeting him I didn't think he was so great though. Sometimes he doesn't say things in the right way, but it makes him human. I just had to learn how to take him. If there is any problem though I just ask one of the nurses or other staff. His staff is great and they are so helpful.
There has not been a time that I have needed something that they have not worked with me.
I live in Texas and there are plenty of surgeons here, but through a friend I knew Dr King would be great for me. My friend has also done great, so I know he has no complaints on Dr King either. What is great about it too is that him and I both have to go see everyone thats been around everytime we go back for checkups. Everyone wants to know how we are and how much we've changed. They also make sure your doin everything Dr says. Its like a great big caring family.
As for an overall rating of Dr King, He's great. His staff is very in sync with him also which helps us all.

I had my first appointment with Dr. King on Thursday, October 18. I couldn't wait for this appointment. Things are starting to move.
Dr. King is wonderful. He tells you right up front how important the committement of yourself will be. His staff especially, Nurse Mrs. A. Williams, is great. She works with you one on one and encourages you all the way. I highly recommend seeing Dr. King and speaking with Nurse A. Williams.

My first impression was that he was very nice but some what stand offish. It was probably me though, I had the worst case of PMS I have ever had in my life.
My impression changed about half way through our visit when we had a discussion over how hard it is to quit smoking. I am very opinionated and that leads people to think I am somewhat difficult. I knew at that moment he really cared about his patients if he insisted that they stop smoking before he would consider doing the surgery. That tells me he is sincere and not in it for the money... That is the kind of surgeon I want.
I can't really tell because I had the worst case of PMS I had ever had in my life on the day previous to my visit and on that particular day. They probably thought I was the biggest "B" that ever walked through their doors. PMS will do that to you. I had no patience what so ever. I could have chewed nails. The only thing I disliked was having to wait for so long. I think the nurse waiting on me got a little mad because I walked down the hall and asked if we were through. She definitely didn't like that, it is a three hour drive from where I live in Jackson and by this time it was 4:30 and I was ready to start on my way back. Previous to this appt. I had my psych. evaluation at 2:00 then my appt. with Dr. King at 3:00 - by now it is 4:30 and my son had waited in the Blazer during both appointments so I wouldn't have to make the trip alone. I was just ready to get back home.
There is nothing I disliked about Dr. King.
The nurse that spoke to me did emphasize some after care. This was only my initial appointment so I'm sure we'll get into that later.
It was scary learning the risks associated with the surgery and smoking. I appreciated that aspect of our visit. He came across very stern and very serious about his patients chances and he seems like he is going to make darn sure his patients have the best chances possible. I haven't had a cigarette since my visit.
My rating of Dr King out of a possible 10 after one visit I would rate him an 10.
Overall I was impressed. Bedside manner 6.
My preference is definitely surgical competence, I don't care if they are stern, mean, or have no bedside manner at all. As long as they know and care about what they are doing and do not make a practice of loosing patients. So what if they don't have the best bedside manner. Wouldn't you rather be alive than have your feelings hurt? Sure, both would be great but if I had to choose of course it would be competence.

I met with Dr. King for the 1st time on July 12, 2001. I found him to be a very sweet, kind man. He made you feel so comfortable and was more than eager to answer any questions. He never acted like he was in a hurry. He made me feel that I was the only patient there at that time. His staff was very nice...seemed geniunely caring and concerned. 10/01 I have now seen Dr. King 3 times in all...2 of them for the EGD ..I had bacteria the 1st time so Dr. King gave me meds to clear that up and we did a follow up EGD today...Hopefully the bacteria is gone and a surgery date is in the near future. I have had nothing but great experiences with Dr. King and his staff..they have been super so far.

Dr. King is so wonderful so far. He seems to be the person that is going to finally help me change my life! I have visted at his office three times and had the EGD with him also. He is very caring and understanding. He is very calm and reassuring. He never acts like he is busy or has other things to do. When you are in the room with him, you are his main concern. He will answer every question patiently and thoroughly, then wait for the next one with a smile. At this point I have full trust in Dr. King! I have talked with several of his patients and they all say the same thing. He is very big on aftercare, as he says you must commit to coming in for checkups after surgery. His office staff is wonderful. All of the nurses are more than ready to help you out and are all kind, fun people. Dr. King told me flat out all the risks of surgery, as well as risks of me not having the surgery. He explained everything to the smallest detail. I would recommend Dr. King to anyone even THINKING of having surgery. You owe it to yourself to at least go have a consult with him. All that is is talking with him and learning about the surgery. Dr. King gets two thumbs way up in my book!
