Dr.Roll is very down to earth. he explains just about every thing you need to know. I went in w/ a list of questions and when he was finished w/ his spill of things I only had to ask 1 question. His office staff was great I got to my appt. about 1 1/2 early and they took me right back after my paper work. I think the hardest thing I need to do is quit smoking because he does not do surgery on smokers. As things stand right now I think DR. Roll is great along w/ his office staff. :-)

Dr. Roll is a get down to business kinda guy with a wonderful personality. Made me feel complete comfortable during the consultation. I feel very fortunate to have such an experienced surgeon, fully confident in his abilities. The office staff is wonderful. Lots of thanks to Barbara, she is awesome when it comes to dealing with the insurance stuff.

Dr. Roll warns you beforehand that he wants to do his presentation before answering questions. He was very informative and straightforward. He inspires a lot of confidence. His office staff is wonderful and the nutritionist he refers to is great. He has a very structured program that really prepares you for surgery.

My first impression of Dr. Roll was professionalism, he was very nice and down to earth, later on he seemed like a father figure, I was very comfortable speaking with him. His office staff is great and very intune to your needs.
Dr. Roll will not do your surgery unless you committ to 1 year of his aftercare program. It is very structured and his support group is great. He did address all of the risks of the surgery, and was pleased to tell me that he never lost a patient.
I would rate Dr. Roll as an excellent surgeon, if you look up his name in the American Medical Association on the web you will see nothing but wonderful reviews about him and his staff.
I feel that Surgical Competence and Bedside Manner are a plus especially when one is going through WLS!
I do realize that I did not have any negative things happen to me as of yet, and that is what makes me feel so comfortable to have this Dr. do my surgery.
I really look forward to my surery!!!

Dr. Roll looks to be a serious, relaxed and confident surgeron. I asked him how many procedures he has done and he said 1000 with no fidelities.
He was quick to answer all questions asked by me and my son. My son tried to hammer him in a corner with some of the questions he had for him. But Dr. Roll answered all questions with the reasurance that I needed and even thanked my son for the drill he was put through. (My son is not for this surgery). He is a no nonsence person with the air of confidence that I felt I needed.
His office staff was kind and friendly.

My first impression was of a very experienced, non-nonsense person.
I have very much faith in him or I wouldn't have selected him to do my surgery.
Office staff is excellent -- friendly and courteous!
Dr. Roll requires visits with a psychologist and nutritionist pre-surgery to insure the patient is best-prepared for post-surgery life. I have since discovered that not all doctors do this. Kudos to Dr. Roll! During my pre-surgery appointment I was given a bound booklet containing all you could possibly have questions about regarding pre-and post-surgery life. In addition, the nutritionist (one he recommended) gave me a binder much like a tutorial of life after surgery, including sample menus, shopping lists, exercise hints, etc. More info than you could imagine!
Dr. Roll described the risks of surgery, including the percentages.
I would rate Dr. Roll as an excellent physician/surgeon.
I rate surgical competence highest, with bedside manner a bonus! A great bedside manner doesn't mean much with a poor surgeon :-)

Dr. Roll is a very "get down to business" type doctor. He knows what information he needs you to have and he doesn't waste any time teaching you. He entertains questions any time you have them. His time is precious and he doesn't waste it on chit chat. I completely trust his capabilities as a surgeon. He has performed over 1000 gastric bypass surgeries and has never lost a patient. He takes extra precautions that I know other surgeons do not...like steristrips after the staples come out, air filled compression books for the time you are in the hospital, 4 days in the hospital including the surgery day, and more.
Dr. Roll's office staff is great...especially Barbara. She has a very calming effect on me. She took care of all the insurance company stuff and I was approved on the first try.
Aftercare is highly emphasized. Dr. Roll requires that you meet with a nutritionist 4 times-2 preop, 2 postop. He has a whole section in the notebook he will provide you on all the things that you may be dealing with after surgery. He also has a list of scheduled visits, lab work, etc. that is done as part of aftercare. You are encouraged to attend the "Staple Club" meetings held once a month as a support group.
Dr. Roll addressed the risks of surgery ver matter-of-factly. He describes the statistics related to complications and death in the notebook he gives out to perspective patients.
I would highly recommend Dr. Roll. Dr. Roll's surgical competence is at the top of the charts. Bedside manner is hard to explain-in my opinion, he gets to the point, does what needs to be done, gives you the facts you need, and doesn't spend too much time building a personal rapport-for example he probably doesn't know that I have 2 children or that I just moved into a new house. Other Doctor's ask questions and talk with you about things like that-not Dr. Roll-it isn't his style. That is okay with me though. His education, reputation and track record speak for him.

My first impression of the Dr was that he was the grandfatherly type. He is very brief, but gentle at the same time. He has very soft hands. He emphasizes two things: 1) he states and reiterates that "you will never eat the same again," while waggling his fingers at you; and 2) you are the most important part of a team that will be working together for at least one year. He says that he's cancelled at least one patient who failed to complete the preop requirements only 5 days before surgery. So I'd say he's really strict. He doesn't operate on smokers and he has never lost a patient. He admits to having some complications. For example, he began asking patients to have an upper GI xray within the last few years because he once opened a patient whose stomach was off to the right side and he could do nothing but close her back up. So he says that the requirement is just a precautionary measure. I've told him about the website and he's heard it before, but admits to having a computer, but no real experience or knowledge of how to use it. But I really liked him - I mostly like his record. I previously read about a doctor who lost 3 patients in one month or something like that and tried to email the person about it, but she never responded. I just wanted to avoid a doctor like that. So Dr. Roll's record is definitely reassuring since I have a 3 year old that I want to live for. As a note about the nutritionist, Sally is no longer there because she moved to Calif. with her husband, but she hand-picked another person, Kim L., who I haven't met yet. I'm looking forward to working with Dr. Roll and his charming, capable staff in the next year.

Dr. Roll was very straight forward. First he started off by explaining the entire procedure to me. He then went over the packet his office has put together. I found it to be very useful. It had all the information I would need tomake my decision. After that I was allowed to ask the question's that i had. I had wrote most of them down to be better prepared. He was fully able to answer all of my questions. After the question period he went over all the risk associated with the surgery. He continued on with the after care program that he has and how important it is to follow through completely with that.
The main thing i liked was he spoke to me as a person with a real disease, not as a fat person who needed to lose weight.
Barb and Anita in the office where great!! They helped me withthe paperwork that needed to be filled out and answered all questions I had regarding insurance.
Overall I rate them all very highly so far. Having just met them the first visit went very well.

Well my first impression of my surgeon, he reminded me of the stern fatherly type that gave you all the rules and then told you the consequences when you broke the rules.Which was exactly what I was looking for. He was very knowledgable and it seemed as though he could perform this surgery in his sleep if need be. Which made me very enthusiastic, but I prefer him to be awake.
He took his time with us and was very thorough, he answered y husbands questions in a way we could all understand not just Dr. Roll. All in all I was very impressed and comfortable with him, and that hasn't changed.
His office staff is wonderful, I mean just absolutely the best. Barbara was just wonderful, I was approved in about 2 weeks and it was all her. I have called to ask some questions then and they have all been very helpful and if they didn't know the answer ( which normally they did) they found out and called me back.
Dr. Roll is the perfect doctor for me, he requires you to be on board with the team. He emphasized that he will give me the tools I need to change my eating behaviors but that I as a team member have a big responsibilty in making it work. He is very strict about aftercare and wants a commitment of one year to the team. Aftercare is very important and he stresses that and has a very structured aftercare program. He doesn't just do the surgery and turn you out on your own.
He addressed the risks of surgery very seriously. He told me all the side effects and the possible risks associated with the surgery, and said I needed to weigh them against the ones associated with not having the surgery.I did and here I am , scheduled for surgery May 17, 2002. Remember this is my personal opinion and everyones personal needs are different.
I was getting very anxious after the office called last week and told me your approved and lets set a date. I guess I though it would take longer, it all seems so real now. I have been having horrible thoughts about death and dying.I was begining to think that this might not be for me. So I decided to flood myself with some more information and get some more insight about the surgery. Well I happened to come here to this website and I was very greatful. I must of read oh about 30 or so personal stories which made me feel like I wasn't alone or crazy. I emailed a few people who were great and have emailed back, a big Thank You to all of you. I plan to keep updating as it gets closer to my surgery, (as I say that I get butterflies in my stomach.)I am having my pre-op tests done on May 2 ( which is coincidently my birthday) I am going to try and knock them all out in one day. I am going to call and set up my psych and nutritionist appts next week. Take care and will update after appts.
