Holy Cross Hospital (COE) Hospital

The air conditioning system was not working properly, they had box fans in front of every bed, I felt like I was in a M.A.S.H unit. The day nurses were just ok, the night nurses were pathetic.
they didn't come you had to press the buzzer at least 4 times. Then when they did come they were annoyed. The whole experience was terrible, I only hope that I never have to go back to a hospital again unless I am on death's door.

Most of the nurses and personal care technicians were lousy. They would say they'd bring something, and they never would. They'd make you wait forever for help out of the bed, at one point leaving my roommate to wet herself because the nurses were in the hall discussing their dental appointments. My bed broke one afternoon and rather than get me a new one, they decided I should have a sleeping pill so I could sleep in the broken bed. About two hours after administering the pain medication, it was determined I had a temp and needed to have many tests run - all as I was incoherent from the sleeping pill - it was ridiculous.

I opted to purchase a private room at $65/night, but it was worth it. the shared rooms were much hotter than mine and the patient's guests were made to leave promptly at 8 p.m. With a private room, my husband was allowed to stay all night in a reclining chair in my room. The hospital staff was very kind in the bariatric wing where I stayed, I was given pain medication and other medications promptly and in a caring manner. The facility itself is quite old, however, and could use some overhauling.

Holy Cross was a great hospital. They had wheelchairs, beds, gowns, everything for the overweight patients. The staff was great! and the very quick when i would ring for them. They tried getting whatever you asked for. They were never nasty about the number of guests i had in my room. I have a huge family and there were times more then 7 people were in the room, if not more. This was an excellent hospital.

I think the hospital needs to find PCT's that might like to work. Doreen is the only PCT who is there to actually care for the patient. The others like to do nothing or talk about themselves 24/7. It is really sad when you are trying to get to the restroom and you are tangled in your IV because of course that is the way one of the PCT's put you in bed, you have had the nurse bell ringing for 20 minutes, by the time you get out of the bed still tangled in the IV, you urinate on the floor because no one helps you but you can hear 2 of them outside of your room talking about dental hygienists. Now that is sad. I had to scream out the door to get anyone even near me. I guess finding a good dental hygienist is much more important.

Holy Cross is totally geared up for our surgery. Dr. Marema's group has almost an entire floor of just obesity patients. This makes the experience a friendlier and more comfortable one. The nurses are trained to treat us and to respect us. I highly recommend this hospital for anyone considering surgery in the Fort Lauderdale area.
